Dynamo for Civil 3D
What is it?
• Dynamo for Civil 3D is visual programming tool that adds the power of Dynamo scripting and 3D modelling
to control and interact with AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawings directly inside the CAD environment.
Who is it for?
• Engineers and designers who process repetitive or time consuming design workflows. Dynamo for Civil 3D
gives users the ability to visually script behavior, define custom pieces of logic, and script using various
textual programming languages. With its simple interface, this feature can be easily accessible to both
non-programmers and programmers alike.
Why is it important?
• Dynamo for Civil 3D reinforces Autodesk’s commitment to improving design efficiencies with the
introduction of design automation capabilities. This tool is for engineers and designers, not just
programmers. Dynamo for Civil 3D provides enhanced efficiency for design workflows where repetitive
and time consuming tasks are a challenge.
Customer Quote
“Dynamo (for Civil 3D) allows me to be more flexible and quick in solution
adoption. With Dynamo for Civil 3D it will be easier to create design variations
and test something new. This is simply next level scripting for geometry and data
as a whole. I am very happy with the visual engine of Dynamo. The possibility of
manipulating AutoCAD and civil geometry at the same time is one of the big
advantages compared to AutoCAD lisp ( I already manipulate both with the
API, but this is quicker).”

Storm & Sanitary Analysis Enhancements
What is it?
• Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) has been updated with the following features:
• Tailwater conditions can be set separately per storm while running multiple storm events
• The Peak Rate Factor for a Dimensionless Hydrograph can be set per subbasin
• Updated and new storage chambers from ADS and Cultec are available
Who is it for?
• Civil engineers who are performing Hydrologic & Hydraulic analysis and creating drainage reports.
Why is it important?
• Storm and Sanitary Analysis offers greater control and more options to users. Conditions and Factors
can be more easily customized to match design criteria and standards. Customers can now change the
tailwater for each storm when running multiple storm event calculations. When performing
Dimensionless Hydrograph calculations, customers can now also set peak rate factors based on the
ground cover in each individual subbasin as required by the approving authority.
Analyze Gravity Network Enhancements
What is it?
• The updated Analyze Gravity Network command can be used to analyze a pipe network and apply the
results to the pipe network. The wizard for the Analyze Network command has been replaced with a
modeless dialog box and now enables customers to interact with the drawing with support for three
analysis types: Pipe Sizing, EGL/HGL Performance, Inlet Analysis.
Who is it for?
• Government agencies who need to analyze supercritical flow in storm sewer networks based on the
latest FHWA HEC-22 edition.
Why it’s important?
• In Civil 3D 2020, the existing Analyze Gravity Network command found on the Design panel of the
Analyze tab now launches the improved user interface. Users now can use Network Details to address
any errors or warnings displayed beneath the button. Analyze will perform the calculations and display
the results. More detailed data can be exported to CSV using the Report button.
User Interface Updates
What is it?
• The ribbon background color has been updated to use the dark blue theme that is being introduced in most
Autodesk products. Ribbon icons have been updated to scale with high-resolution monitors and better
communicate the purpose of each command.
Who is it for?
• AEC engineering and design professionals.
Why it’s important?
• Along with better support for high-resolution displays, this update provides better visual user interface
cohesion across the Autodesk products.
Infraworks “2020”
• Update to Connector for ArcGIS – Save Back
• Extend Schema Transfer
• Spreadsheet Based Edits of Structures
• Component Road Cut/Fill Material
• Conversion of Traffic Simulation to Desktop
Save Back to ArcGIS
What is it?
• With appropriate permissions, users of InfraWorks that load a dataset from ArcGIS will be able to commit
local changes back to the Esri feature service. This includes support for ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS
Enterprise.
Who is it for?
• AEC professionals who need to not only consume the information from their Esri ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS
Enterprise datasets, but be able to make changes to the GIS data in InfraWorks then save the changes back
to the existing layers in ArcGIS.
Why is it important?
• This is the first truly roundtrip data scenario as a result of our partnership with Esri! With the more
seamless flow of data between design and GIS, project information can be more easily kept up-to-date. It
also enables AEC design professionals to work more effectively with their GIS counterparts.
Extend Schema Transfer Between Features
What is it?
• Extended schema allows users to add additional types of features to their models
as well as additional properties onto existing features.
Who is it for?
• BIM managers will benefit most from the ability to manipulate/manage the
metadata in their project design models.
Why is it important?
• BIM requirements around the globe are increasing the need for aggregated
models with deeper metadata. This capability simplifies the process of creating
and managing these models.
Spreadsheet Based Edits of Structures
What is it?
• Being able to edit BRIDGE structure properties in an excel spreadsheet and
updating the InfraWorks model.
Who is it for?
• Structures design customers working on larger, more complex transportation
projects can now make batch edits to their design, instead of using a process
wherein multiple edits in the InfraWorks window are performed. This enables
that work to happen more quickly when changes in the design occur.
Why is it important?
• Structures in InfraWorks can now be revised faster than ever based on structural
analysis and design data that was processed in spreadsheet formats.
Component Road Grading Cut/Fill Material
What is it?
• The ability to control the color of cut and fill areas in a road design. Commonly
red for cut, green for fill.
Who is it for?
• Road designers working on preliminary design projects are now able to
visibly show changes to terrain by a road.
Why is it important?
• Customers now have the ability to control the display of the component road
design layout, a feature that has been often requested by customers.
Customer Quotes"We at C&S Companies have many projects where
the legacy data weighs in both on the GIS side or
the Design side leading to a need for a more data
robust exchange between Design and GIS tools. The
Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS is a dream,
allowing for the ability to create smart InfraWorks
objects from ArcGIS features and then saving them
back. This preserves the “ I “ in BIM and GIS and
delivers on the promise of much more connected
and simplified BIM workflows.”

C&S Companies
“We are excited about the potential opportunities
that VHB will be able to leverage for our clients
with the improved end to end data connectivity
the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS in InfraWorks
delivers. This improved integration of BIM and GIS
data will not only help us early in our projects, it
will also allow us to maintain more robust project
information throughout the asset’s lifecycle
enabling us to deliver higher value to our clients.”
