TO EAT LOCAL

Ask for more local:Can’t find a product you want locally or want to see more local at restaurants or the grocery store? Talk to your favorite farmer and let them know that you’d buy it if they produced it OR ask the restau-rant or grocery manager to start carrying your favorite local farm and wild products. Your requests make a difference!

Eating Locally = Eating with the SeasonsAt a time where we can find most products in grocery stores year round, eating locally is about shifting the way we think about and buy food. Start with a few items, and build your seasonal repertoire with ease. To help you get started, we’ve compiled this handy peak-of-the-season guide that offers an opportunity to connect what’s on your plate with what’s coming out of the ground or waters right near our home!

Find fresh produce and meats year-round – the payoffs are rich in flavor and nutrition. There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh off the vine tomatoes, or sinking your teeth into that first strawberry of the season. Enjoy and savor the peak of each delectable item!

bellingham Farmers Market - The heart of our mission is to support local agriculture. Beyond that, we also strive to support community. Eating local not only connects us to our food, but it connects us to each other and it is a natural extension of the inspiration we hope we instill in our customers each week.

Community Food Co-op – As Bellingham’s only community owned grocery stores, we have featured locally grown produce for over 40 years. Sustainable Connections does a great job communicating the overall values of thinking local, so when they announced plans for a campaign aimed at eating locally we jumped at the chance to work with them.

haggen – Haggen Food & Pharmacy is proud to carry products from Washington companies, supporting the farmers, ranchers, fishers and food producers who make up our own community. We’ve been showcasing and celebrating our region’s wide variety of quality-focused food creators since 1933, and are pleased to be a part of this active, vital network.
