There are those moments in your childs life that you just know you will treasure
forever and sharing the Breakfast with Monkeys experience at Monkey Forest in the
snow with Emily was one of them!
Staffordshire is now home to 2 distinct groups of the macaques descended from the
original monkeys at the parks in France and Germany. Guided by our own personal
expert, Manager Matt, we got up close and personal with this highly endangered
species, observing them in their natural habitat albeit 1,000s of miles from their native
home of Northern Africa. Here they are well adapted and safe from threats, living
safely in optimum living conditions until the grand old age of around 23!
The Breakfast with Monkeys experience is truly exclusive, entering the park before
opening and only 2 visitors are permitted to book per day. You will receive an
exclusive insight into life at Monkey Forest, a photograph and certificate of your
experience, a souvenir guide and a complimentary Monkey Forest ticket.
As a general visitor you wont be disappointed either. The forest is truly beautiful,
with wide level pathways allowing pushchair/wheelchair access to almost every
area and you certainly wont feel that your experience is lacking with fabulous
features to be enjoyed including trickling brooks and picturesque bridges.
Next door to Monkey Forest is the very beautiful Trentham Gardens with its
stunning Italian gardens, many trails, a huge garden centre and exclusive
shopping village with restaurants. The estate now offers a joint visitors ticket
allowing access to both the gardens and Monkey Forest. Cleverly designed as
a two part ticket, this allows you the option to have one huge family day out or
to enjoy them separately on a return visit to the Stoke-on Trent location.

I hadnt had my hair done since I had my
twin boys and felt in need of a bit of
pampering. I called Trish who was very
flexible with her availability. It can be really
hard with 2 babies to arrange a convenient
time to visit a salon and so having a mobile
hairdresser come to the house was ideal. Trish
was smart and professional yet friendly and
we had a lovely chat while she was doing my
hair.
I had an all over colour and 10 foil highlights
with a cut and blow dry, but she offers a wide
range of options. My hair looks beautiful
and has boosted my confidence no end.

Rob & Josie da Bank Camp Bestival
2013 Questions and Answers...BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank and his wife Josie are the brains behind
the award-winning Camp Bestival family-friendly festival which
takes place at Lulworth Castle, Dorset this year between 1st-4th
August, and features top live acts such as Richard Hawley, Mark
Owen (Take That), Labrinth, Gabrielle Aplin, Heaven 17, Levellers,
Alan Davies (QI), Horrible Histories, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Dick
N Dom, The Proclaimers, Mr Tumble, Nik Kershaw and many others
as well as a full arts programme from great organisations such as
The Tate, BFI, The Guardian and 100s of free things for kids to do!
1. Camp Bestival why? Which of you hit upon the idea first (and where were youwhen inspiration hit you)?Josie: Well we'll always argue about who thought it up Im sure that I did, but Robby
swears he did.
Rob da Bank (RDB): Theres been a lot of water under the bridge (and a few cocktails in the
Bollywood Bar!) since then so I cant quite remember but we both wanted to do a family
show. We'd just started having kids ourselves and felt there was a bit of a gap in the market
for a show with a really strong musical line-up alongside lots of things for kids and families to
do.
2. How did you settle on Lulworth Castle as the venue for Camp Bestival?Josie: We'd been there to another festival a long time ago and remembered it being really
magical.
RDB: Yup, we spent hours lying in what is now Camp Bestival's Dingly Dell staring up at
some mad installation in a tree full of mechanical insects... And then youve got the Castle
itself, which makes a magical backdrop to the whole party too.
Josie: The whole Jurassic coast around Lulworth is an amazing part of England and perfect
for summer holidays for families too.
3. If you could sum up Camp Bestival in one sentence of not more than 20 words, whatwould that sentence be?RDB: A whirling merry-go-round of endless fun for everyone and the best family party youll
ever go to.
4. How hard is it to please everyone when you're booking the line-up each year?RDB: Kinda tricky. We need to please babies, toddlers, teens, thirty-somethings, mums,
dads, grannies, grandpas, aunts, uncles and pretty much everyone in-between. Its not as simple as booking three headliners
and be done with it. We spend as much money on non-musical entertainment from arts tents and soft play areas to sit down
restaurants and even a knitting tent just to try and tick everyones box.
Josie: Im not sure how Robby does it, but it all seems to fall into place. Some people want really cheesy 80s stuff, others
come and want very credible indie bands like Richard Hawley and I Am Kloot. Luckily Robby seems to know his music so I
dont have to get involved in choosing what to book. I spend all year booking the non-music stuff though, which is really
rewarding as people seem to love what we unveil each year.
5. This is the 6th year now for Camp Bestival - what is your fondest memory so far?RDB: Maybe seeing Chuck Berry take to the stage or Florence whirling around in her inimitable fashion, whipping up the
crowd into a frenzy.
Josie: It was quite emotional watching the opening ceremony of The Olympics on the big screens inside the Big Top with
Robby and our kids. We werent sure that stopping the music for an opening ceremony would work, but it was a huge draw
and very powerful hearing everyone sing along under the stars.
6. How far in advance do you have to plan for the event?Josie: Its pretty much a non-stop steamrolling show that doesnt halt for anything. We're already talking about 2014 now!
-
www.whatsgoodtodo.com [email protected] Tel: 0161 787 8550 3
RDB: Yup, we're always planning. Its a bit of a problem for us as we work together, live together, have kids together and
everything seems to come back to talking about Camp Bestival or Bestival after a while! Seriously though, its the best job in
the world.
7. Fancy dress is obviously an important part of Camp Bestival (this years fancy dress theme is Around The World) what are the best costumes that you have seen in previous years?Josie: The best costume I have ever seen is someone dressed as a take away curry at Bestival. The best costumes at Camp
are when the whole family gets involved we once had a family come as the entire cast from Alice In Wonderland, complete
with beautiful handmade costumes. Another year we had a whole family come as yellow coats from Hi De Hi.
8. Are there any official estimates as to how much Camp Bestival adds to the local Dorset economy annually? Do youwork closely with local businesses and charities?RDB: We have had some work done recently which came out in the millions. You cant underestimate how may families use
Camp Besti as the start of their summer holiday and then go and stay locally and spend locally. We certainly get welcomed by
most businesses and hotels down there for what we bring to Dorset each summer. We also use local suppliers and staff
wherever possible and work with lots of local charities. My personal favourite locals are the Womens Institute (who make a
cracking cup of tea when youre feeling a bit knackered).
9. How does Camp Bestival differ from its sister event Bestival (on the Isle of Wight)?RDB: Chalk and cheese. Bestival is a vast, throbbing, psychedelic 24-hour monster, whilst Camp Bestival is its sunny, happy-
go-lucky chilled-out little brother.
Josie: I think people start coming to Bestival when theyre 17 or 18 and then graduate to Camp Bestival in their thirties and
forties, when theyre having kids and need a slightly more laidback vibe. That said, we love both shows as much as each
other.
10. Camping is Gods way of reminding us how great hotels are, quipped one commentator recently. Can youexplain to those perhaps still a little unsure about spending time under canvas how your Camping Plus (andBoutique Camping) differs from other festivals?Josie: We pioneered boutique camping at Bestival a decade ago and now that whole industry is vast. We've always felt some
people just wouldnt be content in a small two-man tent and have laid-on other options - from fully furnished bell tents, tipis
and yurts through to Airstream caravans, winnebagos, PodPads (little wooden houses to sleep in) and just about any other
accommodation you can name. Camping certainly doesnt need to be a hassle anymore and the Camp Bestival crowd prove
that and have so much fun.
RDB: Our Camping Plus facility also takes the stress out of that mad rush to get a camping spot at a festival. You buy a pitch
in advance which is all measured out and numbered and, Bobs your uncle, its already there whenever you turn up.
11. Camp Bestival is renowned as festival foodie heaven is it true that you both genuinely have a hand in choosingwhat food is available on-site at Camp Bestival?Josie: Yes, I hand pick them all myself. I often give out a few free pitches to up-and-coming new foodie traders that need a
hand getting off the ground. I have also asked a few people to become a festival trader because I liked their food so much
Peallaria is the best example of this and its now the most popular food stall. Last year and this year we have the Young British
Foodies coming along too, who bring the best selection of street food out there that you won't see at any other show.
12. Camp Bestival wouldn't be the same without Mr Tumble, Dick N Dom and The Cuban Brothers, but which newthings are you most excited to have added on-site this year?Josie: This year we have Horrible Histories, which is a firm favourite of my son Arlo - it will be super to see that. We have
made some changes to the Dingly Dell; expect to see lots of fire and water and late-night storytelling. We also have a new
night in the Big Top called I Love the 80s I think that will be a good one for the mums out on a ladies night.
13. Lulworth Castle seems to be magically transformed every yearfor Camp Bestival - how important is it to you (Josie) to get the lookof the event right and to keep it fresh every time? Josie: Its really important that Camp Bestival and Lulworth Castle & Park
look and feel like they do. We have a very strong identity and look in
which we take a lot of pride. I am currently having lots of new bunting and
signs made, creating new venues. It has a lovely feeling of summer. I
hope the look and feel of the show will stay with children forever.
14. What are your plans for the future of Camp Bestival?Josie: To keep it going , to keep it the same size, to see the same childrencoming back and getting older and also to welcome and meet newfamilies. To keep the content changing every year. And for the sun tokeep shining on us!

I was delighted tointerview the lovely AnnaPassey who plays SiennaBlake in Hollyoaks. Thisis what she had to sayabout upcomingstorylines and hercharacter on the soap.
1. It turns out that Sienna is notthe sweet girl that everyone thinksshe is especially when it comes toNancy. What is Siennas motivefor her twisted games? Its not that Sienna is an awfulhuman being. She has a nicefriendship with Nancy and wantsto be there as a friend. She feelsthat Nancy is throwing away theperfect baby, husband etc.Sienna has never had that andhates to see her throwing it allaway. She is very jealous of whatNancy has. She hates that Darrendoesnt get the full picture .
2. Sienna and Darren havebecome very close recently. Istheir relationship purely platonic oris there more to it?From Siennas point of view shehas never really had any friendsand it is something new andexciting to be around theOsbornes. They are such a lovelygroup of people. It is platonic. You will have to wait and seebasically.
3. Siennas actions potentiallyput baby Oscar in danger, wouldshe really let him come to anyharm? No. Absolutely not. Oscar is apriority. Sienna loves and caresfor him and thinks that he

4. Will any of the Osbornessuspect Sienna is behind Nancysdownfall or does she have themall completely fooled?Wait and see. She is clever andcalculated in her moves. Shestands back and plans before shemakes a move.
5. How far will Sienna go inorder to teach Nancy a lesson?Thats the thing about her. Shedoesnt have a normal sense oflimits. When she is on a missionshe will go to any lengths toachieve what she sets out to do.
6. How does it feel to play acharacter with a secret sinisterside? Its fab, really exciting. Every timeI get a script, reading it is reallyexciting and playing it out on set isreally good fun. It is moreinteresting than playing a sweetand innocent character. I race tothe end to see what happens.
7. How do you think the viewerswill react to this other side ofSienna which we are about tosee? They are not going to like it at all.No one took to her icy, frostycharacter and people dontunderstand what shes about.People have enjoyed herfriendship with Nancy and herwarmer side. As viewers love theOsbornes, they will feel angry ather destroying that. People will bedisappointed with her as she hasjust started to build up trust andthink that shes not that bad.
People will feel disappointed andhopefully enjoy watching that.
8. The on screen chemistry youhave with Osbornes is greatespecially with Darren. How doyou all get on off screen?Famously really. They are such alovely bunch of people. I havedone lots of work with Jessica Foxand Ashley Taylor Dawson. Theyare so lovely and always knowwhat they are doing. They havebeen so helpful helping by goingthrough lines.
9. Do you enjoy working withthe babies on set?Of course I do. Its great. We haveno babies in our family yet. I lookforward to the days when they arein as they are funny andentertaining.

As the Summer is gettting closer and in theory we aresupposed to have longer and lighter evenings, wethought you might like to know a interesting fact aboutthe commonly used phrase:
This isn't used to describe actual robberies - whatevertime of day they might take place. It is a figurativephrase that associates an instance of unfair tradingwith actual robbery. Not just any old robbery, but oneso unashamed that it is committed in broad daylight.
In the 1690s, William III was short of money, which heattempted to rectify by the introduction of the much-despised Window Tax. As the name suggests, this was a tax levied on the windows or window-likeopenings of a property.
People began to board up windows, hence robbingtheir houses of daylight!

Whats Good To Do ... your local whats on guide 8
When travelling with a young baby there are plenty of things to think about. For those ofyou breastfeeding mummies heading off on hols here are some top tips from Medelas inhouse lactation expert. Sioned Hilton has been working with breastfeeding mothers formore than 20 years and certainly knows a thing or two about ensuring mums are confidentand happy and that baby is well fed! For more info find Medela at www.medela.co.uk ormedela uk on facebook and medela_UK on twitter.
1. Pack carefullyIt is all about being prepared! Take a spare set of dark tshirts for you as well as a spare set of clothing for yourbaby, in case of leakage or accidents. You can find many stylish breastfeeding tops and also there are variousclever breastfeeding accessories now such as the vest that turns any top into a feeding top. We all love ourmaxi dress on a hot holiday but these are not practical for breastfeeding mummies as it exposes you a lotmore use a scarf or muslin square to cover you and your baby up to protect you both from the sun.
2. Feeding on the planeWe all experience the changes in altitude with ear discomfort. Babies and young children find this extremelydistressing as they often cannot equalise the pressure in the inner ear. A way of helping your baby to do thison take off and landing is to feed your baby. The sucking action will help your baby to settle as well asequalise. So when ready for take off or landing offer a feed or if your little is asleep get your baby to suck onyour finger or a dummy.
3. Choose your spotOnce you have arrived and getting into a routine another good thing to think about is finding some good spotsto feed. Some places will say you can use the loo, or baby changing area, but bear in mind these can often bequite smelly and to be honest, would you eat your lunch in the loo? No! So why should your baby? If needs beyou can head to a park, the beach or a quiet space by the pool or in a cafe. Theres also nothing wrong withsitting on a bench feeding. You can always place the buggy in front of you and have some quiet time toyourself. And just think, you'll be seeing a new sight as you feed!
4. Limit the boozeWe all love a holiday cocktail or some mulled wine if you're on the slopes - especially if it's all inclusive. But dokeep your alcohol intake in mind if you're a breastfeeding mum. A glass of wine (1-2 units) is ok, but any moremay make you feel tipsy and any alcohol will cross into your milk. You can express your milk beforehand andgive this to your baby if you want to let your hair down. always thinking about timing your drinking of alcoholwhen you're breastfeeding is important
5. Keep hydrated:Bear in mind if it is hot climate or you have been travelling in close and humid environments your baby mayfeed more often as they become thirstier. This is absolutely fine, but do ensure you keep your energy levels upand drink lots of water too whether you are relaxing in the heat or touring a city for the weekend.
6. Watch the sun creamIf you are feeding while abroad in sunny climes it is recommended that you protect your breasts and nipplesfrom the sun. Sunbathing topless is not advised as the sun protection creams may give your baby anunpleasant taste when breastfeeding.
7. Enjoy it!And the final thought before you grab your tickets and head off. If youve mastered feeding at home, dont letbeing out and about be a stumbling block. Keep at it and remember people wont be looking as much as youthink.

Blackpool Zoo www.blackpoolzoo.org.uk Reviewed by Rachel LeggId not been to Blackpool Zoo before and as a first time visitor to the Zoo I was really
pleased to see how well signposted it is from the motorway as my navigation skills can be
slightly questionable.
You enter the Zoo by a large covered atrium with the shop, toilets and a cafe enclosed
within. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant and we willingly bought a
guidebook and map for 2.50 which seemed a good price for a nice glossy brochure with
lots of conservation info and bright pictures.
Everywhere that the animals were behind glass the glass was extremely clean so you still
got a really good view, and all the enclosures were clean and tidy . Blackpool Zoo has a
good selection of animals both large and small, there are big cats and other wow factor
animals such as the gorgeous giraffes and elephants, right down to the humble chickens in
the fantastic childrens farm.
We had a really good day and there were too many highlights to list them all. Would I recommend it as a day
out? Absolutely! We had a great day and will be going again in the not too distant future.
The Blues Brothers Approved
Opera House, Manchester7-11 May 2013 www.atg.com/manchester
Reviewed by Colin Rogers & Emma Baker
The Blues Brothers Approved was at the Opera House in Manchester it consisted of
two halves each a good 45 minutes long, and featured around 30 songs from the
original series like... Everybody needs somebody to love, Shake it like a tail feather
and Jail house rock.
The show itself was different to what I expected, as I thought it was going to be a show
but it was full of singing and dancing with some slap stick comedy thrown in. The
Blues Brothers were full of energy dancing about and played their part fantastically, Jake (played by Brad
Henshaw) could be seen jumping and dancing about the stage and even tried his hand at cartwheeling! and
his brother Elwood (played by Chris Chandler) provided a bit more of a serious side to the show but still had
us in fits of laughter.
It was a great show, full of energy and beautiful soulful songs and they put their own stamp on each and every
song they sang, me and my other half couldnt wait to tell our friends and family what we had just seen.
Definitely a show we would be back to see, and recommend to anyone and everyone and something we will
be talking about for a long time.
New Jersey Nights www.atg.com/manchesterReviewed by Debbie Tasker
Since I can remember my Dad has loved Frankie Valli and the Four
Seasons. I grew up listening to him singing along so I was excited to
be invited to New Jersey Nights opening night at the Opera House,
Manchester. The show tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four
Seasons and their life and music over the years and their rise to fame.
Oh what a night was the opening number and from that moment on it sure was, we were treated to all the hits
including Big Girls Don't Cry, Rag Doll. Walk Like a Man, Sherry, and my favourite track Who Loves You?
amongst other iconic songs. As they brought to life the sound and the feeling of the era.
Singers Jon Hawkins, Duncan Heather, Ricky Rojas and Damion Scarcella give truly charismatic
performances and their harmonies are spot on with tightly choreographed dance routines, authentic dapper
suits and greased back hair they certainly looked the part too. There is also a fantastic live band.
The whole evening was fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I would of been classed as a spring
Chicken (I'm 46) so yes it was an older audience the whole theatre were on their feet dancing, clapping and
singing along for the closing numbers, we were left on a high with the assemble singing the Four Seasons Bye
Bye Baby and everybody waving in time to the music.

Reviewed by Lee-Anne McCarthyA week or so ago, while in our local museum, I picked up a leaflet forFolly Farm. It was brightly coloured and massively appealing to all agegroups. We arrived at the park at opening time and the children werelike a shaken can of pop they were so excited to get in and see theanimals. The members of staff who greeted us at the cash desks were so friendlyand welcoming it was a lovely start to our day. As visitors we wereprovided with a clear map of the park and also child safely wrist bandsupon which you could write your name and telephone number so in theunlikely event that you were to misplace a child you could easily be found. There were activities on site both indoors and outdoors this wasparticularly appealing considering the wonderful Welsh rain we oftenencounter. Farmer Glyns Jolly Barn was your classic farmyard experience. The children got to meet goats, pigs and horses. Throughout the day in anumber of different areas of the park there were timetabled meet and greetswith different animals including giant bunnies and even snakes. There wasalso the opportunity for the children to try their hand at milking a goat. here were a number of outdoor play areas that were well equipped for all ages; from the diggers in the sand,
pedal and ride on tractors for little boys and girls to the diggers lifting boulders for the big boys (dads). Therewas a lovely play park that would be a delightful place to picnic. Folly Farm has a wonderful zoo with lots ofexciting animals. The park costs 9.75 for adults and 8.75 for children. All infants aged two and under go free. The value formoney is superb. The McCarthy Clan had a fantastic day out and we enjoyed the experience so much the planfor Folly Farm expedition 2 is already in the pipeline!

Having had a quick look at the menu online my husband and I were really looking forward to reviewing Miller
and Carter Steakhouse in Wilmslow, having been lucky enough in the past to eat in some amazing steakhouses
in Argentina, we struggle to find places in the UK that compare.
The restaurant is set within a very smart looking building with plenty of parking in the middle of Wilmslow and
only a short walk from the station. Inside the dcor is equally smart, with a large sweeping staircase leading to
the upstairs dining areas and log fires. The way the restaurant is laid out allows an intimate dining experience
with areas tucked away, with attentive staff we were not forgotten about.
We were served by Andre an excellent, knowledgeable waiter, you would have thought that having looked at
the menu previously online that making a food choice would be easy, apparently not - its always a good sign
when it takes nearly as long to chose your food as it does to eat it as it all sounded so good.
The only disappointment in our meal was that the starters, mains and sides were so delicious we didnt have
any space left for dessert, which was a shame as they looked fabulous. We did overhear several other diners
talking very complimentary about their desserts
so I am sure they were as equally wonderful as
the rest of the food.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Miller and
Carter Wilmslow, it was our first time out together
since we had our baby 8 months ago, testament
to the good food and atmosphere that we really
relaxed and enjoyed ourselves instead of
worrying! We would (and have done since
visiting) highly recommend this to all friends who
enjoy good steak and I am sure we will be back
again soon saving room for some desserts!

Didicar Walk n Ride www.didicar.co.ukReviewed by Debbie Talbot
The walking trainer is very sturdy and is clearly
made from high quality materials. I was relieved to
see that it wasnt too tall to sit on (seat height
25cm).
After removing from the box and assembling, which
was very quick and easy. My twin boys grin from
ear to ear when sat on this toy, although at 9
months they are slightly too young for it but they do
love it . They love holding the easy grip handle bars
and trying to stand up. I am considering buying a
second one to save the sad faces I am getting from
whichever twin is not on it. It moves about smoothly
and easily. It isnt too heavy for me to pick up to put
away (1.5kg) and is easy to clean.
Not only can you sit on it to ride
but the shape allows to stand
at the handle bars and walk
around with it making a bit more
versatile.
Overall this was a big hit
with both of my twin boys
and I would recommend
it to other parents.
My First ScooterTesco and www.amazon.co.uk
This is the perfect scooter for introducing
youngsters to scooters due to the fact that you can
assemble it with up to 4 wheels.
Overall, this is a wonderful beginners scooter. Our
daughter is still using it on 4 wheels but as she gets
more confident it is very easy to drop down to 3
wheels and then finally 2 so is a great introduction
and training scooter for when she gets bigger and
needs a bigger one. It is small, sturdy and a
reasonable weight to go anywhere with us and
folds up very easily to put away or take in the car.
We highly recommend this scooter for introducing
your children to scooters, its stable and sturdy and
gets them playing out in
the garden and getting
fresh air. With a RRP of
20 we think it is
excellent value for
moneydue to the
versatility
of the wheel changes.

In the pack you get a deck of 60 Pokmon Cards, 1

This XS Helicopter from Revell is a great remote
controlled helicopter for beginners.
On opening the box I found a small helicopter,
measuring 8.5cm long weighing 18g, a handheld
control unit, a USB charging cable and manual. I
immediately plugged the cable into the helicopter and
into my computers USB port to charge it up.
After 35 minutes (as stated in manual) my helicopter
was ready to fly. A 35 minute charge will give you 5-7
minutes of flying time. Off I went into the garden to
try out the helicopter and nearly lost it the controls
are sensitive so be careful. It has taken me a few
days to get used to the controls
but now am able to fly it without
nearly losing it.
Overall, this is a great little toy.
Although it is small it is very
sturdy and mine is still in one
piece despite my poor attempts
while learning to control it and
smashing it into everything.
As I still havent broken it
despite several crashes and
collisions it is excellent quality and great value for
money. It takes a bit of practice to fly it so you will
need patience but it is great fun.

which turn each cup into a different type of sea
creature such as a fish and a crab, and the shapes
on the edges have different textures that your child
can feel.
The cups also stack inside each other which is
great for easy storage. These were also suitable for
taking in the bath and gave her extra fun as she
filled them up and then tipped the water out over
and over again.
A great toy to help with hand eye co-ordination and
to learn how to recognise

Suitable from 9 months

extremely durable and each

these will go on teaching

the box was the hopper and a hand pump to inflate

had a space hopper as a child this is a similar
product.
Overall, our daughter loves it! While our daughter

The toy is educational, teaching numbers and letters

The toy can be easily wiped

Ben & Holly LIVE - Buxton Opera Housewww.benandhollylive.com Reviewed by Sue Surgey
Having a two year old that loves Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom I was so excited
to be going to see the show, and even though Buxton Opera House is
practically on the door step, I'd never been so a double treat!
When the music started, which was exactly the same as the TV show, my two
year old sat mesmerised and very still (unheard of!!) then the character's Ben & Holly appeared. I was unsure
how they would make a cartoon show come to life for theatre, but they did and made a fantastic job! The
masks really worked and left my little one thinking it really was Ben & Holly. Lots of singing and dancing and
recreating of some the actual TV episodes packed the first half (with some less than slick set changes at times
- though remembering this show is aimed at under fives it didn't really matter at all).
The first half finished with a very effective scene where the characters were flying back to the Little Kingdom
with Lucy from the big world, after Nanny Plum - when being a tooth fairy had been to Lucy's house to collect
her tooth, and woken her up.
The second half continued the story as the characters arrived back in the Little Kingdom, and then followed
another packed half with stories from the TV episodes. This half saw more of the favourite characters such as
King Thistle and the Wise Old Elf appearing.
The production is aimed at the under fives and I think they did a fantastic job of recreating a very popular TV
show for theatre, for this age group. I took my 10 year old along with me too and although he felt a little old to
be there he loved it! and my 2 year old has never kept still for that long before, so a definite thumbs up from
him too!

My children know the story of James and the Giant
Peach well and weren't disappointed, as the show
followed the story completely. Sophie said that the
portrayal of each of the actors was brilliant and that
they were all exactly as she'd imagined. They didn't
rush through the beginning part of the story, and the
use of puppets to portray the darker part where his
parents get eaten was genius! You could clearly see
which actor was controlling which puppet and
William was amused by James controlling a smaller
James!
I had wondered how they would show a giant peach
rolling far and wide and was not disappointed buy a
giant peach balloon being repeatedly thrown into the
audience!
Throughout the whole show, there were songs,
scenes, characters and props to keep you interested
and intrigued, the artistic style
of the performance worked
perfectly and showed just how
talented all of the cast were.
This show would and did
appeal for everyone, whether
they were 4 or 94!
Sophie and William were upset

The show started with singing and dancing, introducing
Marty, Gloria, Melman and Alex in the zoo. The costumes
were amazing and the sets showed scenes almost identical
to the film. The acting was fantastic, we almost forgot that
they weren't actually animals on the stage!
The next set showed the animals in their crates on the ship
on the way to Africa, which captured the film perfectly. The
first half ended with the 'naughty' penguins ambushing the
Captain and crew, taking over the ship and tipping the
animal crates overboard, heading towards Madagascar.
The second half saw the animals meeting the Lemurs and
King Julien and the audience were treated to a rendition of
'move it, move it' which was great fun and got the audience
dancing along.
I would thoroughly recommend the production to anyone
with children aged 3 plus, particularly if they are familiar
with the film, as the likeness of the stage sets and
characters was amazing. We had a great day out and it
was a real treat for my daughters that I know they will talk
about for ages - I

We arrived at the park and I am not sure who was more

we were pointed in the right direction of the park.
The highlight for the boys was definitely the spin dizzy - where you are lifted fifty foot high and then

good value for money especially as it was quite quiet when we went.
I thought this was a great place to bring kids aged 6+ - it is definitely a

floors. Our room was spacious and contemporary and the en-suite was almost sparklingly clean
and included both a shower and separate bath.
First we worked our way through all of the rooms in the hydrotherapy suite absolute heaven!
Then for a dip in the outdoor hydrotherapy room and to finish, we made the most of the swimming
pool There is a fabulous spa area where you can book for various treatments including
massages, reflexology and detox treatments, for both men and women and they even cater for
mums to be and offer wedding packages!
The hotel also boasts a very well quipped gymnasium which holds state of the art equipment, and
staff on hand to show you how any of the units worked.
Dinner was booked for 8pm in the Grange Restaurant but before that we sneaked in a drink in the
Pickwick Bar. The bar had plenty of seating areas and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Again the
staff were very efficient and friendly making us feel very relaxed.
After a very comfortable nights sleep, the following morning we were in the same restaurant for
breakfast. You could choose from a cooked breakfast that included the most delicious locally

Breakfast was a self-service basis but there were staff available should you need any assistance.
And so our mini escape was over. We loved our stay at the Manchester Norton Grange Hotel and

short stay near a city or a weekend of pampering with friends. The hotel is even licensed for civil

Whats Good To Do ... your local whats on guide 28
For many people inBritain, Dresden will bemost closely associatedwith the devastatingbombing raids inflictedby the Allies towards theend of The Second WorldWar and it is certainlytrue that recent history isnever far away from youduring a visit to the city.
Meticulous restoration, first during
the period of the German
Democratic Republic and more
especially since reunification has,
however, now allowed Dresden to
reclaim its position as one of the
architectural and cultural highlights
of Europe.
As former capital of the Kingdom of
Saxony, it is perhaps not surprising
that Dresden should have its fair
share of royal palaces and art
treasures. If restoration is one
narrative that pursues a visitor,
another is Augustus the Strong,
Elector of Saxony at the start of the
Eighteenth century. With the help
of what seems an indecently
casual change of religion,
Augustus, formerly a champion of
the Reformation, managed to add
the Catholic kingdoms of Poland
and Lithuania to his commonwealth
and it was his patronage of arts
and architecture that gives
Dresden its very special baroque
flavour today.
Covering the ground and absorbing
culture can be tiring, but one of the
great advantages of Dresden is its
compactness. Most of the major
historical sites of the city are all
within a few hundred metres of
each other. The Royal Palace
contains a series of museums
including the remarkable Historic
Green Vault, an ensemble of highly
ornate chambers created by
Augustus to display the state
treasures and crown jewels of
Saxony. This collection continues
in the New Green Vault on another
floor. In all, the visitor is presented
with over 4,000 precious objects.
At the back of the royal mews is a
102 metre long mural, known as
the Procession of Princes, made
from over 25,000 Meissen ceramic
tiles. During the bombing of
Dresden, incendiary bombs caused
a firestorm that engulfed the city
centre and gave rise to
temperatures that cause marble to
turn to chalk. This ceramic mural,
however, survived intact due to the
very high melting point of the glaze.
Almost next door to the Royal
palace is the Zwinger Palace. After
visiting Versailles, Augustus the
strong commissioned his architect,
Popplemann, to come up with
something that would reflect his
own status and that of the city. The
result was a startling rococo
complex, built around a large area
of formal gardens and fountains,
where Augustus could entertain
visiting dignitaries. The Zwinger
now contains Dresdens old
masters museum, which famously
includes Raphaels Sistine
Madonna, a porcelain collection
and a very recently opened
Museum of physical and
mathematical instruments. The
citys cathedral, the Frauenkirche,
was pretty much totally destroyed
during the air raids of February
1945. Under the GDR, the
authorities decided to leave the
ruins as an anti-war memorial.
Following reunification, however,
the church has been rebuilt and
the interior, the decoration of which
achieves a harmony that manages
to evade the sometimes
oppressive weight of extreme
German baroque, has been
meticulously restored. The church
contains a cross made out of
nails rescued from the ruins of
the old cathedral at Coventry,
Dresdens twin city.
In very close proximity are

Semperoper, surely one of the
prettiest in Europe and the
Albertinium art Galleries, which
house a particularly good collection
of European art from the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
For those wishing to escape the
city, the Elbe valley offers plenty of
easily accessible options. You
might take a short trip on a
restored paddle steamer upstream
to the Chinese influenced baroque
palace at Pillnitz and walk around
the extensive gardens and
arboretum. In the opposite
direction a bus ride takes you to
the city of Meissen, birthplace of
European porcelain production,
where you can visit the Meissen
factory museum and see how this
world famous porcelain is made,
before eating lunch from fine
Meissen porcelain in the museums
restaurant. Alternatively, a narrow
gauge steam railway will take you
through Saxonys vineyards, past
the beautifully situated Moritzburg
castle to Radeburg, or for a bit of
moderate exercise, why not hire a
bicycle and take a leisurely trip
along the traffic-free river Elbe
cycle path?
Those seeking nightlife will head
out to Dresdens Neustadt where
there is an abundance of bars,
restaurants and nightclubs to
meet all tastes.
The story of the citys recovery and
restoration adds a fascinating
dimension to a visit. The
determination to recreate a
heritage, large parts of which had
been destroyed, and the
remarkable attention to detail,
which even extended to the use of
eighteenth century contemporary
technology in the replacing of
mirrors in the Historic Green Vault,
is a testament to the resilience of
the human spirit and the support
that the city has received qualifies
it as a symbol of international and
interdenominational good will and
cooperation.
Cityjet has recently started a
six-times-week service from
London City Airport to Dresden
International, which is a short train
or bus ride form the city centre.
Another option is to fly to Leipzig,
which is served by Lufthansa from
Heathrow or Ryanair from
Stanstead, and then do a bus or
rail transfer to Dresden (about one
and a half hours). The city also has
convenient transport links with
Berlin.
Visitors may be surprised at the
relatively low cost of
accommodation and dining in this
part of Germany. For somewhere
different to eat, its worth trying the
Pulverturm restaurant, which
occupies the restored vaults of an
old armoury and where they serve
excellent Saxon specialities such
as suckling pig with potato
dumplings and sauerkraut, Those
who regularly do city breaks will
find that, for price, Dresden
compares very favourably with
most European destinations and it
should certainly be on your list if
you are thinking about a relaxed
break, with plenty of cultural and
recreational possibilities on offer.

Dresden are available with fares
