What’s new in NX Industrial Electrical Design and NX Automation Designer

The latest release of NX Industrial Electrical Design and NX Automation Designer, which are part of the Xcelerator™ portfolio, the comprehen-sive and integrated portfolio of soft-ware and services from Siemens Digital Industries Software, provides new func-tions for the most efficient electrical and automation design of industrial equipment.

NX

NX Automation Designer and NX Industrial Electrical Design without TeamcenterThe latest release of NX Industrial Electrical Design and NX Automation Designer supports the use of key functionalities without Teamcenter. This version lowers the barriers to entry for mechatronic engineering by enabling integrated electrical and auto-mation design without a complete PLM system. Customers looking to improve their electrical and automation design processes can benefit from this version and be ready for the future with the ability to bring their libraries into Teamcenter at a later date.

Project data export/importThe latest release supports the transfer of a complete and consistent copy of an entire NX Automation Designer project from one managed environment to another with all its related data. The complete package contains the NX Automation Designer project with linked mechanical data and custom library data. The data at the receiving site is a copy to work with that can be used for an initial project setup or the final project delivery from supplier to original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

Product assignment for connections The latest release significantly expands electrical design capabilities with extensions to manage connection products. Products can now be assigned to a single connection. These connec-tion products are part of the standard product handling and workflows. This leads to consistent handling of all BOM products.

Creation of connection documentation A key task of electrical design users is creating documentation that is easy for their customers to read and providing them with the best data to complete their work. The latest release provides new standard reports to document connections and wiring information. The connection list, connection BOM, matrix terminal diagram and cable list are available out-of-the-box (OOTB). Cross-references can easily be added to the connection documentation.

Dimensioning of 2D cabinet layouts NX Industrial Electrical Design has the functionality to create simple 2D cabinet layouts. Designers can quickly place rails, ducts and 2D components to lay out the cabinet. The new release extends these capabilities by providing standard dimensioning for fast creation of dimensions that can be used for manufacturing.

NX

Expanded symbol libraryLibrary content is key to being able to start creating schematics. The new release of NX Industrial Electrical Design expands the re-use symbol library for electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics. By expanding the use of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) symbols, the user is able to more rapidly create schematics.

Binary logic code creationUsers often have to create basic binary logic in a control program to handle interlocks, simple latching and other control tasks. To do this requires flexi-bility in the logic and for the first time this logic can be created directly in NX Automation Designer and incorporated into our software creation rules.

State chart code creationAlmost all machines in discrete manufacturing require a sequence of operations to complete the tasks it was designed for. NX Automation Designer provides the automation engineer with the ability to design his/her machine sequences with direct access to the mechanical design and direct generation to the TIA portal.

Support safety software generationMachine design isn’t just about getting a machine to run, it is also about making it safe to operate and maintain. With NX Automation Designer, engineers can now import, export and generate safety code to the TIA portal, ensuring better consistency and re-use, while reducing effort.
