The Positive Ageing team joined with Rob and Lauren from Bush Adventures and ventured to the beautiful Cascade Gardens in South Hobart.

It was a lovely outing where everyone enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. It was a gorgeous crisp morning, everyone had hot cups of tea in hand, the smell of the barbeque was sizzling away, listening to the birds chirping and relaxing in the serenity of the gardens with live music.

EVENTS Walk Against Elder Abuse Pop on your purple winter woollies and walk with us on International World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Friday 15 June 2018 to draw attention to the silent epidemic of elder abuse. This year the walk will be led by Her Excellency the Honourable Kate Warner AC, Governor of Tasmania and joined by the Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Ron Christie. Each of us has a role to play in preventing the severe damage caused by elder abuse to both individuals and families so please step forward and make your presence felt.

This is a short and easy walk that departs from the Westella car park at 181 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart at 2pm and progresses along Elizabeth Street towards the city centre and into Bathurst Street. The walk will conclude at Mathers House, 108 Bathurst Street, where a light afternoon tea will be served.

Exploring the world of Watercolour pencils with Lisa Have you always wanted to learn how to draw or paint watercolour in your own style? Do you enjoy scenery and nature? Watercolour pencils are a great way to experience both painting and drawing. These three workshops will focus on learning how to blend, mix and combine techniques for creating individual style. The theme of nature will be explored and the flexibility that is available when using water colour pencils. If you enjoy art, craft and having lots of fun then you already have everything you need for these classes! Beginners will be provided with a packet of pencils that you can take home to continue your watercolour adventures. Those who have attended sessions previously are asked to bring along their pencils. Quality paper is provided for everyone.

A Chat with a Continence Nurse The Community Continence Service is staffed by Continence Nurse Specialists and a Continence Physiotherapist, who are specifically trained to help people manage bladder and bowel control problems. These concerns may be something a person has thought too trivial or embarrassing to seek help for, such as leaking a small amount of urine when coughing or having to get up to the toilet a few times at night. Mathers House drop in sessions are a way people can have an informal chat or ask questions about your own or a family member’s continence needs. TaKeTiNa - Explore Rhythm in a Relaxing and Fun Way TaKeTiNa is both meditative and stimulating; relaxing and revitalising and it facilitates mindfulness.
