DTI launches BN ePayment Facility In an effort to further improve the ease doing business in the Philippines, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched the electronic payment (ePayment) facility for business name (BN) registration at the Board of Investments (BOI) Audio-Visual Room (AVR) in Makati City on January 20, 2014. In his keynote message, DTI Secretary Gregory L. Domingo said that the ePayment facility for BN registration is one of DTI’s projects that aim to simplify the process of dealing with the government as entrepreneurs start and run their businesses. “We are confident that our facility will give a boost particularly to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises because business registrations would become more accessible,” Domingo said. Meanwhile, DTI Undersecretary for Management Services Group (MSG) Nora K. Terrado said, “We are happy to announce that an online business service for sole proprietorship is now end-to-end with the addition of ePayment.” Terrado cited DTI’s partnership with BancNet; Globe Xchange, Inc. (GXI); Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP); and Landbank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) for this endeavor. A live hands-on demo was presented by Philippine Business Registry (PBR) Program Director Ernani M. Dionisio with two actual applicants at the venue.

Fairly-Priced General Merchandise Owner Krystalle Carren R. Refe of Quezon City paid her BN registration through G-Cash. Meanwhile, DJNC Meriendahan Owner Noemi P. Estrada of Las Piñas City paid

her BN fees through BancNet, the country’s largest electronic banking consortium with 113 members and affiliates. Both applicants received their approved and printed BN certificates in less than 15 minutes. For his part, National Competitiveness Council (NCC) Private Sector Co-Chairman Guillermo M. Luz said that better systems like ePayment lead to increased competitiveness, more investments, and stronger economy.
