Laughter is medicine for the soul. It
needs no prescription, has hilarious
side effects and is readily available to
all. Whether we burst out laughing or laugh
up our sleeves, humor makes us feel good.
Watch humor at its best when The New-
port Summer Comedy Series presents wit and
word play under the harbor-side tent at the
Newport Yachting Center in Newport, Rhode
Island; seven stand-up comedians that have
audiences laughing til their sides hurt.
What better way to spend a summer night than
having a good laugh.
Every year our lineup gets better and big-
ger. Last year 13,000 people attended our 10
featured performances. This year we expect tobreak that record, remarks Joe Rocco, Presi-
dent and founder of the series.
Terry Fator, an extraordinary imperson-
ator, comedian, singer and ventriloquist who
touched millions of peoples hearts when he
competed on and won NBCs Americas Got
Talent says that, Im really excited about
performing in Newport in July. I know its
going to be a wonderful time. Fator has just
signed a five year contract to perform at the
Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. He will be appear-
ing on Thursday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Other featured performers this season:

In New Bedford MA the sea surrounds us
with its never ending loveliness, and its
the easiest thing in the world to stroll the
hills of Fort Taber watching the clouds out to
the far horizon of sapphire. Then enjoy the fresh
bounty of that same ocean five minutes away at
the outside patio of famous Davys Locker Res-
taurant, where the salt tang mixes with the scent
of delicious New England cooking.
Fort Taber Park at Clarks Point, open
from dawn to dusk, has clean green swards,
circling bike paths, a colorful playground,
snack shack and friendly beaches to be en-
joyed in this sultry summer heat. It also has
a magnificent reminiscence of past wars that
established this peaceful scene, the seven-
sided edifice of Fort Rodman.
In 1997, the City of New Bedford created
a public park with bicycle trails and walk-
ing paths, taking advantage of the panoram-
ic views. Als o built were moving memori-
als representing the various armed forces
and conflicts. Available for conversation
and history are the volunteers of the FortTaber Historical Association who maintain
a military museum on the grounds.
After working up an appetite, you can re-
trace your route to stop in at Davys Locker at

to satisfy all tastes.Monte Ferris, 2008 festival chairman, has
good news for pinched travelers, vacationers
and area residents this summer. Weve made

engage all the senses and emo-
