Celebrating Honor Roll Students with Breakfast On November 24 and 25, both Middle School and High School students were recognized for their strong academic performances in the first marking period. Students with an
overall average of 85%-92% are recognized for Honor Roll, while students with an overall average of 93% or higher are recognized for High Honor Roll. Approximately 200
students and families were invited to the breakfasts. Congratulations to all students, and keep up the good work in the
second quarter. Special thanks to the PTA and the Dawson
family for their support and preparation. We also
would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of our staff and parents who continually maintain the focus on academics.
Happy Holidays!
Holiday Recess is December 22 through January 2
My School, My Voice Parent Survey
One of the Board of Education’s goals for 2014-2015 relates to improved communications and customer service. To gather input from our parents, we opened a survey on December 1, 2014. We are extending the length of time the survey will be available on the District website to December 19, 2014. Please take a moment to provide us with your voice about your school at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/My_School_My_Voice.
Middle School Music Fills the Air
Both the Grades Six/Seven Band and Chorus performed in the auditorium at the end of December to end the calendar year with the sounds of music. We would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Grattan, Mrs. McDougall and Mr. Roche for their hard work in preparing the students for these events. Both groups did an outstanding job playing and singing a variety of arrangements from
composers such as Johnny Marks, Larry Neeck, James Ployhar, and Jon Bon Jovi. We appreciate the large turnout of family and friends that were in attendance to support our students in their
efforts.
Upcoming District Winter Concerts
High School Winter Concert: Wednesday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. at High School
Grade 5 Winter Concert: Thursday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. at T. J. Connor
Sports Boosters Need Your Help
The Sports Booster Club is in need of an interested individual to serve as its treasurer. The Booster Club meets once a month for about 90 minutes, and individuals also volunteer at sporting events in the
concession stand. The treasurer would also be responsible for bookkeeping and bank transactions for the club. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Scott Melville at 585.889.6224 or [email protected].
Winter Sports
Our winter sports seasons have entered the competitive portions of their schedules. Our swim team is finding many individual successes so far this season, and hoping for a team win soon. The girls’ basketball team lost to Northstar and Oakfield last week, but picked up a win against Edison on Monday. The boys’ team had wins against Oakfield and LeRoy so far, and play Elba and Attica over the next few weeks. For more information on our sports seasons, please visit www.geneseeregionaa.org and click on Wheatland-Chili.
Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
On Friday, December 5, the Wheatland-Chili Athletic Hall of Fame inducted Tom Dooling. Several former players and coaches attended the event and spoke of Tom's exemplary service to the athletic programs at Wheatland. Tom was presented by the District with a plaque in recognition of his service, and this plaque will permanently reside in the gym. Tom closed out the ceremony with a great speech, telling our current students just how
special their experiences at Wheatland-Chili are. The event was very well attended, and the varsity boys’ basketball team rounded out the evening with a nice win over Oakfield-Alabama. Pictured is Tom with his Hall of Fame plaque along side his wife and sons.
Seventh-Grade Students Attend Performance at Geva
On December 10, the seventh-grade class had the opportunity to travel to Geva Theatre to
see a performance of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. On top of being a wonderful way to expose the students to one of the many world-class theatrical performances available to them in Rochester, Mrs. Krenzer developed a unit tied to the Common Core Learning Standards leading up to this experience. In their English classes, seventh-grade students were asked to compare and contrast three
elements: 1) Seeing a live performance vs. reading a text;
2) The difference in tone and structure of script versus prose; and
3) A live performance versus one that is filmed.
Ultimately, students will be asked to write an argumentative essay on which medium they believe to be the most powerful and effective. Many thanks to Mrs. Krenzer and Mrs.
Snyder for organizing this wonderful experience. The students had a great time and were impressed by the overall experience.
Physics in Action
Students in Mr. Krill’s Regents Physics class were assigned to build a version of an ancient catapult, called a trebuchet, using principles studied in the classroom. The students applied their knowledge of kinematics, projectile motion, and centripetal force to design and build a
“treb” that would throw a softball. Each member of the winning team received a gift certificate. A nice job was done by all the students who created working models that performed well on the day of the competition. Special thanks to Mr. Krill for braving the frigid weather to facilitate the event.
Project Lead the Way Launch Begins in Second Grade
Second grade has begun their first Project Lead the Way experience called Materials Science. The first
module is called Properties of Matter. Students are using iPads to work with curriculum. They have learned about kid inventors, what an engineer is, and "watched" a popsicle melt as
part of their study. Second grade will continue to complete activities involving properties of matter, measuring heat, and will work
through the design model to conclude the module. Be on the lookout for what they will have to design.
Kindergarten and First Grade Celebrate Thanksgiving
Kindergarten and first-grade students celebrated Thanksgiving. First graders participated in three different activities. They created turkeys with Mrs. Spuhler, made Native American headbands with Mrs. Richmond, and sang "The Pilgrims Came
Marching In" with Mrs. Meyer. Kindergarten celebrated by having a “feast” and created pilgrim hats to wear to the feast.
We hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving at home as much as we did here at school.
School Closings
When inclement weather, or any other emergency situation, forces the closing of District schools, the information will be communicated by radio and television broadcast. The decision to close schools in weather-related situations will normally be made no later than 6:15 a.m. Radio and television stations will be notified as soon as possible. As you know, the District has a rapid calling system that is used to update you on important information
within the school and District. The system that we use is Blackboard Connect, which is used by several other schools within Monroe County. We will again use the system to inform parents of school closings through telephone calls and emails that will be sent to you no later than 6:15 a.m.
If you wish to make a change at any time in the person that is called, the telephone number, or email address that is used, please contact our District Registrar, Mrs. Cianciola, at 585.889.6247
Please note that if you miss this call or any of our Blackboard Connect calls, you can retrieve the message by calling 1.877.REPLAY1 (1.877.737.5291) from the telephone that received the call. We are committed to continuing to provide you with accurate and up-to-date information through a variety of means, and will use Blackboard Connect to
share information and reminders throughout the school year.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2015-16 school year is January 28 for all incoming kindergarten students. We have shifted this date to earlier in the year to help us better plan for next year. If you have a child or know
someone with an incoming kindergarten child, please call the office to make sure we have their name on our list (585.889.6298). We will be mailing information out in January. Kindergarten screening will still be in March.

Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Proposed Capital Project
On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES will be seeking Wheatland-Chili voter approval
for capital improvements to its main campus on Big Ridge Road in Spencerport. Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES
serves students from Wheatland-Chili, as well as Brockport, Churchville-Chili, Gates Chili, Greece, Hilton,
Holley, Kendall, and Spencerport. Residents from all school districts are eligible to vote. The Capital
Project Vote will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Room #2 at
the Educational Services Center, 3599 Big Ridge Road, Spencerport, NY 14559.
The proposed $29.2 million project is the first of its kind for Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES
in its nearly 60-year history. The project work will improve building infrastructure,
upgrade technology in classrooms to support quality instruction aligned to career
preparation for students, accommodate student enrollment increases and continuing
program expansion, increase capacity for professional development, improve security
measures, reconfigure traffic flow on the BOCES campus and increase parking capacity.
The impact of the project for Wheatland-Chili residents is $2 per year with Enhanced Star and
$4 per year with the Star exemption (with a property valued at $100,000) over a four-year
period. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions, Information Sheet, and Capital Project Presentation
for further information at http://www.monroe2boces.org/about.cfm?subpage=3294. If you have
