About the College
About the Symposium
Victoria College of Education, Bhopal was established by Sahib Shiksha Avam Samaj Kalyan Samiti in 2005 to impart quality education with the motto 'Wheels ahead in Education'. The college aims to make its students national assets, capable of developing India into an affluent and self dependent country. The college provides three programmes in Teacher Education viz. B.Ed., M.Ed. & D.Ed. and one programme in Physical Education i.e. B.P.Ed.
In addition to subject knowledge, it has been the aim of the College to inculcate a sense of moral & ethical responsibility in its students so that they can establish themselves in the society as 'socially useful benevolent human beings'. Students are groomed to be in peace with themselves so that their peaceful personalities contributes to social & global peace.
Regular theory & practical classes integrated with co-curricular & extra-curricular activities are the tools used for internalization of knowledge, skills, values and professionalism in our trainees. The would-be teachers are motivated to spin back a progressive platform to their students so that the children stay in pace with the everchanging international scenario - by 'learning to learn' and teaching the skills of 'lifelong learning'.
Victoria College of Education is located on Kolar Road, in the beautiful landscape of Bhopal where serenity and beauty prevail away from noise and industrial pollution and environmental disturbance. It is quite accessible through public transport and is connected with all regions of Bhopal city. The total area of institutional land is 1 Acre & builtup area is 18,000 sqft.
One of the major objectives of education declared is 'making a man capable of earning his livelihood reasonably well to enjoy a happy and secure life'. Time has changed the perception to- 'making a man capable of achieving professional goals by any means'.
However, it is essential that we should be quite clear about the purpose of change. It is, therefore, natural to ask the, questions - Reform and change to achieve what? What type of society we aim at and what type of citizens we wish to produce? Why aren't we able to create a safe & happy world? Do we perform our professional and social duties from the bottom of our hearts or are we silent supporters perhaps even cohorts of this irresponsible social culture? Perhaps the answer to this question (and other related questions) lays in the theme of our symposium. The Affective Domain Objectives of education as described by Bloom way back in 1960s and the letter of Abraham Lincoln to his son's teacher are still relevant yet lost in the race 'to the top' by 'hook or crook'. Are we over-emphasing on the cognitive (knowledge) and conative skills to produce excellent expert manpower rather than high-quality human resource?
Victoria College of Education, Bhopal intends to spark a debate on the reasons why education is producing highly qualified and successful professional but not all of them are 'socially useful human beings'. This symposium also aims to suggest measures to integrate morals, peace, values, ethics, mental health etc. with classroom academics at all levels of education particularly the 'tubula rasa' through teacher education. The outcomes of this academic churning are expected to help all of us to contribute in individual peace and hence in making the world a better place to live in.
