Page 2: When the Sun's Rays Strike

Describe the Globe

• A spherical representation of the earth.

• The model is tilted 23.50

on its axis.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. describe how the tilting of the earth causes varying climates in different places;

b. explain how latitude affects climate; and

c. enumerate the cause/s of uneven heating of the earth’s surface.

POST ACTIVITY QUESTIONS AND

ANSWERS

Page 9: When the Sun's Rays Strike

Which part of the earth receives most of the sun’s rays?

The equator.

Page 10: When the Sun's Rays Strike

Why are the coldest places on earth found near the poles?

When the area is farther from the equator, the air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.

Page 11: When the Sun's Rays Strike

Why are places with high temperature found at the equator?

Due to the tilting of the earth’s axis, places near the equator receive more heat making the air temperature higher.

Page 12: When the Sun's Rays Strike

What could have been the reason why different parts of the earth receive varying amounts of sunlight?

Different places have received varying amounts of sunlight because the earth is tilted on its axis. The shape of the earth is also another factor to consider.

Page 13: When the Sun's Rays Strike

One of your friends told youthat the reason why there isuneven distribution of heat onthe earth’s surface is becauseof its distance from the sun.How will you correct thismisconception? Apply what youhave learned from the lessonto help your friend understandwhy there are places thatreceive most/least direct ofsunlight.
