Where Do You Get Your Information From

Media in the modern world has become the window through which people see the outside

world. Media is the only medium through which the people get access to the world around them.

Therefore, the media has a very significant role in any community. It is the media, which enables

the people around the world to form their opinion about the happenings and proceedings in the

world.

Scientific studies cannot take place by themselves. They require a lot of time, patience

and money. Scientists are people who understand science but they need sponsors or donors for

their studies. And nobody contributes financially in a subject which is of no interest to them. It

requires for the scientists, to rationalize the logic behind their study purpose and make it evident

to the donors that science can work for their common interest. Communication has to justify the

need for funding, bringing out the potential results and explaining anticipated breakthroughs that

could take place. Also, while carrying out researches themselves, it is important for a scientist to

link his study within the study periphery of his institute. There are several methods of doing this,

presenting a proposal with objectives of the research and generalizing past researches on similar

fields. Besides that, communication also helps to make an impact. Information is of little value if

it not presented in a robust and meaningful way. Scientific knowledge should be presented as

simple as possible for the public to understand, but it should also be stern enough to stress the

facts. In any way, effective scientific communication is the key.

Here, the role of the media is to project the reality and not the made up stories. Media has

to realize that millions of the people are making their decisions on the basis of what they are

projecting to the public. In this regard, the media is responsible for the decisions made by the

public. In other words, it can be said that the media have the power of manipulating the decisions

of the people in both positive and negative ways.

In conclusion, communication is an integral part of science. It builds a basis for

information sharing and distribution, it helps to understand the facts and facilitate various

decision making processes, it keeps a record of the findings that can be looked upon in future for

further studies and it makes science more accountable by integrating various aspects. Therefore,

for an effective scientific communication, it is important to follow general rules like keeping it

simple and clear to make the information more understandable to the public. Scientific

information circulates by a series of simplex and complex steps to reach the targeted audience.

So, while presenting information to scientific as well as non-scientific communities, it should be

done in a manner that can be comprehended and convinced for authentication.
