Where Education Meets Employmentin the New Skills Economy
PENN FOSTER IS A LEADING SKILLS SOLUTIONS ORGANIZATION FOCUSED
ON PROVIDING COMPETENCIES, CREDENTIALS, CAREER PATHWAYS, AND
EMPLOYMENT MATCHING FOR TODAY’S EVOLVING WORKFORCE.
PREPARING AND TRAINING THE WORKFORCE OF TODAY AND TOMORROW
has been at the core of Penn Foster for more than 125 years. Operating continuously since 1890 as the nation’s
first correspondence school and evolving into one of the leading institutions focused on competencies, credentials,
and career pathways, Penn Foster’s primary focus has been on closing the skills gap by preparing workforce-ready
employees for middle-skilled careers across leading sectors like healthcare, industrial/trades, early childhood
education, veterinary, hospitality, and retail.
Through direct enrollment or via partnerships with thousands of leading employers, youth organizations, unions,
workforce boards, non-profits, and academic institutions, Penn Foster serves more than 150,000 learners and
graduates more than 40,000 students each year.
Penn Foster’s mission is to empower youth and adult
learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to
improve their employability and workplace effectiveness.
Where Education Meets Employment in the New Skills Economy
PENN FOSTER COMPLEMENTS TRADITIONAL SCHOOL-BASED LEARNING CHANNELS WITH ON-DEMAND AND ACCESSIBLE ONLINE SOLUTIONS.
The definition of a traditional student has evolved dramatically over the last 10 to 15 years. Our students typically
work part-time or full-time and/or have other obligations outside of school. Few of them can attend school full-time.
From Opportunity Youth—individuals between the age of 16 and 24 who are neither in school nor working—to
adults, our learners are individuals whose circumstances or life choices have prevented them from pursuing a
traditional high school or college education. Despite these setbacks, our learners want to join the workforce, apply
their skills and talent to more rewarding work, or set themselves up to more quickly advance in their chosen field.
In order to get there, they need the reinforcement of a personalized, affordable, and accredited education, but a
traditional education setting does not typically provide this. They need to learn in a modern way at their own pace
and to be able to seamlessly fit their education into their lives.
CONCURRENTLY, PENN FOSTER HAS FORGED NATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH LEADING EMPLOYERS and other organizations who are experiencing or see the coming changes of the 21st
century workforce, as baby boomers retire and automation and other factors fundamentally change the nature of
some jobs. Working collaboratively, employers integrate Penn Foster’s programs in targeted and customized ways
to put employees on the fast track, accelerating workers’ skills and success and enabling employers to more quickly
fill their skills gaps. We integrate digital- and mobile-first flexibility with engaging coursework and micro learning that
achieves quick traction and inspires lasting behavior. We empower future hires to drive businesses forward.
OUR SUCCESS IS DEMONSTRATED BY THE OUTCOMES FROM OUR ACCREDITED SCHOOLS, more than 44,000 graduates a year earning diplomas, degrees, or certificates towards today’s
most in-demand fields. In our 2016 alumni survey, 78% of employed graduates reported a positive change
in their job status, such as a promotion, a raise, a new job, or increased responsibilities within six months of
graduating. With a growing reputation for a strong focus on compliance, and providing value and outcomes
for graduates, Penn Foster is squarely at... THE INTERSECTION WHERE EDUCATION MEETS EMPLOYMENT IN THE NEW SKILLS ECONOMY.
