Boone High School Launches Pre-Apprenticeship Program It was announced earlier in March that the Iowa Governor’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Advisory Council awarded Boone Community School District and three other Iowa schools portions of a $200,000 grant. The grant money was awarded to these schools due to their grant proposals that highlighted their current partnerships with local companies. These partnerships with local companies are the key in starting a quality pre-apprenticeship program focused on high-demand, STEM related jobs. Boone High School will be focusing on semester length, project based opportunities initially in the plumbing and electrical fields. This week, principal Kris Byam and Jake Gourley, junior at BHS, had the opportunity to kick off the Pre-Apprenticeship Program with Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds at the State Capital. Both Byam and Gourley spoke about their excitement for the program. Gourley, who will be taking after his father, is ready to take on the plumbing pre-apprentice program with Kruck Plumbing and Heating Company. Byam is excited for all the opportunities this program is giving Boone students. This program is opening doors to the future of learning. Giving students these pre-apprenticeship opportunities before they graduate is going to put them in a position for great success after high school. Boone High School Launches Pre-Apprenticeship Program

UPPER MIDWEST EMMY AWARDS: BooneTV submitted four entries for the Upper Midwest Emmy Student Recognition Production Awards. All four entries were named finalists in their respective category. These entries are Justin Elsner for Sports Compilation, Corbin Wafful for Arts/Entertainment Story, Zach Chopard for Serious News Story, and the entire staff for the News Show category. The winners of the Student Production Awards will be announced on Friday, March 31, at the awards ceremony in Minneapolis. Just by being named a finalist, these students are top five in their field in a six state radius.

HOOPS FOR HEART SUCCESS: Hoops for Heart was put on by 5th and 6th grade students before spring break. The students raised the most money they have ever raised at the fundraiser this year! A total of $7,958.50 was raised. Way to go Toreadors!

ATTENTION ALL BCSD STUDENTS, STAFF, AND FAMILIES: Do you have BCSD pictures or a note of congratulations to share? If so, please send your photos and your congratulations notes to [email protected]. TOREADOR THEATRE PRESENTS: Next weekend, March 31st and April 1st, the Toreador Theatre will be performing the play I DON’T HAVE A CLUE at 7:00pm in the BHS Auditorium.

Mrs. Reimers preschool class learned about the letter W this week. The also started clapping syllables in words. Keep up the good work!

These students learned about how the earth’s surface is covered in land and water this week. They made models of the earth to show the difference between water and land on our planet. Great job!

Mrs. Zierke’s Kindergarten class practiced their math with buttons this week. Way to go!

Franklin Library STEM Days have been a huge success. The students have had the opportunity to transform and tinker on different activities. Here is a glimpse of some of the activities in action.
