“It’s an obligatory participation for us”

Mark Bristow, CEO, Randgold Resources

Better content

Better speakers

Better value

2014 Advisory Board

Better networking

When putting together this show we went back to basics We wanted to find out what you really wanted from a mining investment conference. So over the course of 3 months we spoke to over 150 leading investors, mining companies and industry experts. This is what you told us.

Many of you asked for more information about mining investment opportunities in Africa, Latin America and Europe. We’ve therefore changed the first day of this year’s event from a ‘Canada and Australia’ day to an ‘Around the World Mining Investment day’ with content covering all the continents.

We’ve also introduced 3 new streams in response to your feedback:

• Commoditiesinvesting–2December• Base,bulkandindustrialmetals–3December• MiningforGoodsummit–4December

You also asked for new speakers who hadn’t spoken at Mines and Money before. For 2014 you’ll have the opportunity to learn from over 200 industry experts of which over 50% have never spoken at our event before to guarantee that you will get fresh insights.

Qualified investors still go free, although for 2014 we have introduced a more proactive policy to target the leading institutional fund managers, investors and private equity players that are actively looking at and investing in the mining industry.

In response to the tough market conditions we have introduced a lower price for mining companies. We’ve seen some of our competitors become a mining conference with hardly any mining companies attending. To us that makes no sense and we hope that our new pricing is attractive to juniors, mid-tiers and majors.

Our Advisory Board have been instrumental in advising Mines and Money on content as well as helping secure some of the key speakers. They’re also playing a key role in ensuring that the awards process for 2014 is even more rigorous than ever.

Mike Price, Advisor, RCF

Michael Rawlinson, Global Head of Mining and Metals, Barclays

Mark Wellesley Wood, Ex – Chairman, DRD Gold

Ian Henderson, Ex - Fund Manager, JP Morgan Asset Management

Mark Bristow, CEO, Randgold Resources

Richard Roberts, Editor, Mining Journal & Gareth Tredway, Deputy Editor, Mining Journal

Through the event there are numerous networking opportunities. Everyone who registers will get the opportunity to use our one-to-one planner where you can pre-arrange meetings with our delegates.

A variety of interactive roundtables where you can have more informal discussions on a particular topic with a smaller group of people.

Drinks receptions on the first 3 days including our now famous Women in Mining drinks reception on 3rd December that this year has a “Find the Diamond in the champagne glass” theme.

Last but my no means least we have our Gala Dinner and Mining Journal Outstanding Achievement Awards on December 4th. This year is extra special as the awards and gala dinner takes place on St Barbara’s Day, the patron saint of mining.

one-to-one Meeting planner MinesandMoneyLondonhas3,000attendees.Howcanyouensure that you meet who you want, when you want?

To make your life easier and to maximise your time we encourage all registered delegates to take advantage of our one-to-one meeting planner.

So how does it work?

All users of the planner will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire when they register for the conference. Mining companies will be asked to identify whether they are at the exploration, development or production stage as well as state what type of mineral/s they are mining. Investors will be asked to state AUM. Service providers will be asked to state what services they provide.

When you log onto the one-to-one meeting planner you will be able to immediately identify what sort of companies you want to meet and through an ‘outlook’ style calendar system be able to see when they are available to meet. You then send them an invite. If they respond our system automatically books a private meeting space for you to meet the prospect for a 20 minute slot.

Speed networking At Mines and Money there will be 1000 investors with billions of dollars in AUM. There will be 1000 mining companies looking for capital finance. What better way to meet them then at our speed networking session. Make sure to bring plenty of business cards – you’ll need them!

Masterclass: Yielding high value through optimising mining excellence

hosted by the global Mining Standards and guidelines group (gMSg)

Session chair: Andrew Scott, Senior Director, Mining Information and Technology, Barrick Gold, and Chair, gMSg

Mine operations are driven to increase efficiencies, improve safety and environmental performance, and achieve greater production, to counter increasing costs of operation. With such great pressure to optimise mining performance, industry-wide collaboration is driving the development of new technologies and the standards, guidelines and best practices to enable mines to meet new levels of operational excellence.

Increasingly investors are scrutinising mining operational efficiency when making an investment decision, hence the rationale for the session at the conference.

This session will highlight some of the leading initiatives that showcase the profound impact on mining costs and performance to be achieved through collaborative development

topics to be covered include:

•The business case for industrial comminution efficiency improvements, which promises major cost savings through energy management

•The move towards open access to data and ease of data transfer throughout the mine operation to reduce redundancies and increase reliability of equipment and processes

•Developing the framework and protocols to enable automation and innovative step-change

Masterclass: Hedging and Market Risk Management

(09:00 – 17:00) Workshop leader: Sean russo, Managing Director, noah’s rule

The questions remain the same, it’s the answers that keep changing!

Metal and Bulk Commodity market prices have been highly volatile over the last few years and the local exchange rates have at times been out of sync with them, creating considerable volatility in local currency prices.

Against this volatile external price environment most producers see continued operating cost pressures with many also managing high levels of debt with little or no hedging. In the recent past all the focus was on expanding revenues on rising prices, now all the focus is on working hard to maintain positive operating margins.

Trying to survive and hopefully thrive in the current market environment without addressing how best to create some level of revenue certainty is increasingly like fighting with one arm tied behind your back! Revenue management, Price Protection, Hedging - call it what you like – has been much maligned in the recent past but more and more producers, across a broad range of markets, are looking in the rear view mirror and wondering why they didn’t hedge when prices were favourable and if they should do it now.

Who should attend? Anyone looking to increase their knowledge of hedging as a risk management tool. When we have run this before we have had attendees from mining companies, banks, private equity funds, refineries, traders – whatever your background this day is an excellent way to get a better understanding about hedging.

MORNING SESSION

basics of hedging products and commodity debt

•Construction of forward markets •Backwardation / Contango – what are they, do they matter? •Options vs. forwards - why and when •Debt types – Gold Loans, Pre-Pays

policy construction

•Essential elements of sound risk management •How debt changes everything •Why an “Inside-Out” policy beats “Outside-In” •Discussion of common mistakes/myths •Risk analysis and hedging limits • Identifying your point of pain /point of panic •Creating a sustainable risk management policy

AFTERNOON SESSION

Hedge implementation and strategy

•Answering the hedging questions: Why hedge? Do you need to? In what manner to hedge? When is it ok not to hedge?

case study and next steps

•Real examples in action •What has worked recently? •What have we advised? •What are we telling clients to do now?

Sponsorship and Exhibition Opportunities at Mines and Money

When you sponsor or exhibit at Mines and Money you will:

Mines and Money London is the only European event that brings together a global audience of investors and mining companies that are looking to secure capital.

If you are a junior mining company, whether you are at exploration, development or production stage, Mines and Money gives you the opportunity to reach a wide range of investors: – whether you are looking for $1million or $500million, every year mining companies come to Mines and Money and leave with new investors.

If you supply services to the mining investment industry, the event is an excellent one-stop shop to meet all our customers and potential customers in one place. Banks, brokers, law firms, consultancies, METS, royalty and streaming providers – they all sponsor and exhibit at Mines and Money because they know that our event consistently delivers.

We have a range of opportunities available to ensure you get customised, and targeted exposure to the right people. Contact Leon Walton at [email protected] for a friendly discussion on how you can move forward toward meeting your new clients!

•Create new connections and bring home viable prospects for sales – our conference delegates are an extremely focused group of people with strong business interest in the event that they are attending. Leads generated typically have extremely high conversion rates.

•Give your products targeted exposure - draw attention to your brand by using the conference as a launch pad for new developments, products or services.

•Quickly gain entry to new markets - with exhibitions being one of the most cost and time effective ways of entering new markets, you couldn’t have chosen a stronger event to attend.

•Be seen and integrate with your audience - face to face contact at conferences and showing continued support to the market helps develop client loyalty and reputation.

Don’t just take our word for it. Our previous clients are more than happy to tell you how successful the event was for them:

“We’re a main sponsor at Mines and Money London – it’s one of the premier events in the sector” Vaughn Wickens, Executive, Mining and Minerals, Standard Bank

“We want to find out what’s going on in the market, see what people are interested in, what’s key and what’s important….it’s my opportunity to meet everybody in London” David Pearce, Managing Director, SRK Consulting

“For a company like ours who are looking for opportunities, we come to Mines and Money to reach out to potential investors.” Randy Smallwood, CEO, Silver Wheaton
