The Whitby Morrison factory is purpose-built with separate moulding, fabrication, refrigeration, vehicle build, paint spray and finishing facilities. Confidential research and development is conducted in our own independent design centre. As the demands of the market develop, so does the capacity for innovation and level of in-house ability. Ice Cream Vehicles are the core product of Whitby Morrison, alongside Trailer Kiosks and Tricycles.

Today, Bryan’s son Stuart is Managing Director and in 2005 Bryan’s eldest Grandson, Ed, became the first from a third generation of the Whitby family to join the Company. These three generations and their workforce continue their work together, with that same belief: ‘we produce the very best, or we produce nothing at all’.

The Mondial has been specially developed for the 5th series of the Mercedes Sprinter.

In previous years there has always been two separate branded bodies; the Whitby and the Cummins. The Mondial is so good that there is now just one; it features an amalgamation of the best two brands demonstrating the key characteristics of each. Of course, the Mondial is customisable and today’s Mobiler continues to have the option of the distinctive features of both Whitby and Cummins.

The Whitby Mondial demonstrates the sleek modern design often associated with Whitby products. The rear section of the body is typical; high-level rear lighting featuring the very latest LED technology.

The rear bumper section continues with the modern trend; adapted and significantly reduced in size, it really emphasises the 21st century image of this body. The main rear lights are moulded within the bodywork itself and are supplied by Mercedes. As well as this, the rear of the body now features the Mercedes badge adding further prestige to the vehicle.

The serving windows are a very important part of any Ice Cream Vehicle. That’s why here at Whitby Morrison we carry a huge range of options. The Whitby design features a reduced rear panel; this compliments the 1-piece fully moulded interior perfectly. The Cummins Mondial is a perfect example of the very best of traditional styling presented in a modern way, demonstrating perfectly the nostalgic character of ice cream vans from years gone by.

The crowned roof above the driver is typically Cummins and compliments the Sprinter cab area perfectly. The louvre name panels follow suit; clear and bold signage has long been synonymous with Cummins design.

These traditional Cummins bodywork features allow the Mondial to work with the Sprinter perfectly – it really looks like a complete vehicle.

Again, the importance of the window options is perfectly catered for; the Cummins styled full-length rectangular window arrangement continues to be a highly popular choice. It enables full access to the serving area and works perfectly with the interior.

Cummins styled laminate and stainless interior finishes offer the Mobiler 21st Century quality fittings whilst retaining the traditional character of a Cummins Ice Cream Van. The arrangements of such are fully customisable and therefore allow you the flexibility to have the vehicle layout exactly as you want it.

The bold two-bar grille, increased vertical headlight treatment, new wheels, exterior trim detailing really enhances the Transit’s image. The car-like interior of the Transit is spacious and equipped with technology to make your life easier and more comfortable. Increasingly popular options available include air conditioning, cruise control and satellite navigation. The elevated dash-mounted gear shifter and new ‘walk through’ cabin have revolutionised the Transit’s position in Mobiling.

Bold styling and contemporary design conveys a highly professional attitude for the seriously impressive Ford Transit.

Extended component life, in many cases to 250,000 miles is one of many reasons why the ownership of a Ford Transit has become a highly attractive proposition. The key strengths of the Transit are demonstrated through it’s new instrument panel which offers improved structural integrity and a reduction in general noise and vibration.

Three 2.4 litre diesel engines are available for the Transit. With four valves per cylinder, cleaner emissions and improved overall efficiency, there is a choice of 100PS, 115PS and 140PS. Servicing intervals are up to 15,000 miles or 1-year.

The Transit shares the same driving dynamics as a passenger car. A new quicker steering ratio, ventilated front and rear solid discs, antilock braking and brake traction control system are among many features, which enhance the overall driving experience.

Security is a very important consideration for everyone. The Transit features a full suite of security measures, including two levels of alarm. A significant addition is the industry’s first configurable locking and unlocking security system and ‘guide me home’ lighting.

Ford have enhanced their recognised safety system with additional improvements; ABS and EBS are now standard throughout the model range. The redesigned front structure further enhances low speed impact resistance. The drivers’ airbag is standard and can be supported with an optional 120-litre passenger version.

The Whitby Millennium is exactly as the name suggests; body styling for the 21st Century.

A sleek and pleasantly streamlined exterior compliments the shape of the Ford Transit perfectly. The unique Whitby styled window emphasises the attractive lines of the Millennium bodywork.

The reduced rear section glass compliments the interior for easy cleaning. And of course this window design provides the largest possible serving opening. There are many other window options available with; something to suit the needs of every Mobiler.

The Millennium bodywork design also allows for an optional rear compartment and access door. This can be used to locate condensing units or our latest optional Power Packs. Beneath this one-piece exterior bodywork skin, stainless steel body mounting brackets ensure optimum strength and longevity.

The fully moulded interior with hidden fixings ensures that the Millennium is extremely easy to clean.

The structure of the roof lining features an integral front storage cupboard.

All in all, it represents a fantastic working environment further demonstrating the modern image and performance of this vehicle.

The Cummins Mk 25 brings up to date the very best features of traditional ice cream vans throughout.

As the Mk 25 name suggests, this body has a long history. With the benefits of continuous improvement this latest Cummins design is now perfectly positioned for the 21st Century.

The Mk 25 bodywork is constructed using the very latest fibreglass moulding techniques – this ensures optimum performance and long life, with minimum weight bearing on the chassis. Stainless steel body mounting brackets also ensure optimum performance and long life.

The latest fully moulded cab finishers allow for the addition of a storage facility. Fully moulded surrounds to all freezer lid and door apertures completes this updated interior finish.

Typically Cummins, the Mk 25 is fully customisable with a variety of laminate colours and stainless steel designs to choose from.

This allows the Mobiler to specify a truly bespoke design for their individual application.

Of course it’d be great for everyone if we could all start with something completely brand new but sometimes that is not always possible. That’s why Whitby Morrison are pleased to offer a conversions to your own chassis service.

Primarily, Whitby Morrison work with either the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit or Chevrolet Express when converting a customer chassis. By supplying their own unit for conversion, the customer is removing the cost of a brand new chassis whilst still receiving a top of the range Whitby Morrison or Cummins product.

On occasion we have converted other vehicles to suit customer requirements, recent examples include the Volkswagen, Land Rover, GMC, Renault and LDV.

As with all Whitby Morrison and Cummins model vehicles, the final design remains fully customisable and can be adapted and built to the exact requirements of the customer.

For the North American market, we work with David Cummins USA Inc. of Kissimmee, Florida. David Cummins has in excess of 40 years experience of the ice cream mobiling industry, with 10 of those based in Florida.

Here, the very latest Chevrolet Cargo Express Van is used as the base for the Ice Cream Truck. This is then typically converted with a hardwearing and lightweight fibreglass body and equipped with the highest specification refrigeration system available in the ice cream mobiling industry.

Coupled with the patented DDS system and latest high performance Carpigiani soft ice cream machine, these Trucks really are the highest performing and reliable vehicles of their kind anywhere in the world.

For Europe and the rest of the World, the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter are the preferred chassis. With different markets having different specification and legal requirements, Whitby Morrison can work with you to ensure that your new ice cream vehicle is the very best for your application. Left hand drive, air conditioning and varying electrical specifications are typical specification changes.

However, we are often asked if we can build something a little out of the ordinary.

Since being established in 1962, the Whitby name has become recognised as the best within the industry. The experience and skills of the staff ensures that any realistic bespoke vehicle dream can be turned into reality. This is perfectly demonstrated by Companies from outside the ice cream industry, entrusting Whitby Morrison with unique projects.

Recent examples of this bespoke work include a promotional hot drinks vehicle for Yorkshire Tea and a large hot food and coffee unit for a southern-based operation.

A fleet of delivery vehicles complete with hydraulic tail lift are manufactured annually for Champion Bakers, Chatwins, who are based in nearby Nantwich.

The prestige model is the Whitby Morrison Presidential Trailer, widely acknowledged as the ultimate choice within the industry. Featuring a distinctive body design with large serving openings and slide out counters, this fantastic innovation really has set new standards.

The Heritage range of trailers has been carefully designed to suit the stringent requirements of the ‘City of Westminster’. The exterior in particular has been designed to compliment the environment of sensitive locations.

The Victorian trailer features an attractive overhanging pitched roof. As with the Heritage range, these trailers have been developed for specialist site and event work and to compliment their environment.

All trailer chassis base frames are manufactured by Whitby Morrison using heavy duty steel and are available in single, twin or triple axles. Of course there is also the option of castor wheels for permanent sites. An electro hydraulic system is also available which allows the trailer kiosk to be lowered to the ground at the push of a button.

The Holdover tricycle is our most sophisticated model. It features a fully insulated holdover refrigeration unit, identical in design to those used in a Whitby Morrison ice cream van. The unit is charged overnight by connection to 240 V mains, which in turn will provide in excess of 12 hours selling time. This unit is ideal for every vending purpose, but particularly scooped ice cream.

The 1930s tricycle operates in a completely different way. Featuring a liquid-foam insulated box, the unit is fitted with 4 removable eutectic insert plates, which can provide up to 8 hours selling time. The box itself is fitted with an attractive heritage styled surround and is accessed through a fully sealed lift up lid. The 1930s is perfect

TRICYCLESWhitby Morrison manufacture three models of vending tricycle; the Holdover, the 1930s and the Giovanni with each suiting a particular application.

for selling pre-wrapped goods as well as scooped ice cream, but of course can be adapted for all sales requirements. The Giovanni tricycle features a solid foam insulated box and operates in an identical way to the 1930s model. The unit is fitted with 6 removable eutectic insert plates and accessed through the double sliding lid. The Giovanni is perfect for selling pre-wrapped products including ice lollies and soft drinks. Vendors can expect to vend for up to 6 hours using the Giovanni.

A full range of tricycle accessories are available to help you realise your sales potential. Additions such as a parasol, sink unit and cone basket can soon turn an simple looking tricycle into the ultimate sales unit.

It is the middle product between with the 4 lid freezer positioned in an ice cream van or trailer and that of the holdover tricycle itself. But it offers so much more than that.

The Whitby Morrison Picolo Trailer is perfect for operations in restricted areas where a van or trailer may be inappropriate and a tricycle or cart too small to satisfy consumer demand. In addition, the Picolo is ideally suited as an extra sales unit to compliment an existing pitch.

This attractive sales unit features a fully insulated 3-lid holdover freezer. This is perfect for selling both scooped and impulse ice cream. The complex Whitby Morrison refrigeration system will allow between 12 and 18 hours selling time following an overnight charge. The unit features a fully adjustable solid canopy, enhancing the image. This can be lowered securely during transit. A tow bar is also included; this can be removed to generate the image of a static unit.

A further development of this idea led to the creation of the Picolo Soft. Winner of the ICA Best New Product Award 2007, this trailer allows you to offer freshly made soft ice cream in areas where restrictions prevent a van operating, yet still benefit from the throughput of a van model machine. The electric motor driven base enables the high performance VAN model Carpigiani soft ice cream machine to be powered simply from a 13A plug. The Picolo Soft also features separate frozen and chilled compartments allowing other stock to be stored in addition to the mix for the machine. A fully insulated water tank and stainless steel sinks complete the design.

The layout of both Picolo trailers is fully customisable and can be adapted to suit your individual requirements.

The new ‘Rapida’ has been developed by Whitby Morrison to provide the ultimate soft ice cream freezer for mobile ice cream vans. With the development of several exciting new design features and by optimising the refrigeration and pump performance, the highest production and efficiency has been achieved. These new features and efficient operation also help to minimise wear and therefore reduce operating costs. Mobile ice cream vans work in the busiest locations imaginable and fast efficient production of soft ice cream has always been the key to maximising sales.

The production must be consistently fast, or in the Italian language ‘Rapida’, hence the name chosen for this exciting machine. Development tests have shown a production output consistently 20% greater than the already successful Carpigiani Van Uno! Not only increased overall production quantities but with the benefit of a faster recovery time – ‘Rapida’ the ultimate soft ice cream freezer.

The fantastic new ‘Magic Eye’ is a feature which has never before been available on an ice cream freezer for mobile ice cream vans. This very clever feature allows instant response from ‘Storage 4C’ position

for immediate dispensing of ice cream. The ‘Magic Eye’ cleverly senses movement when the operator’s hand brings a cone into position below the dispense head. The beater drive is automatically engaged allowing ice cream to be dispensed. As several more ice creams are dispensed this new feature also ensures that the refrigeration cycle continues with the pre-set hardness of the ice cream automatically controlled by the beater micro switch. The Van Super Tre or Twin as it is more commonly known has two freezing cylinders allowing the vendor the flexibility to offer ‘twin’ flavoured (Twist) ice cream, or a choice of two individual flavours.

The Van Uno Colore has a single freezing cylinder but allows the vendor to inject a multitude of coloured-syrup stripes into the ice cream when dispensing. A very colourful and very tasty idea for increased sales!

To compliment todays market, Whitby Morrison and Carpigiani have developed a pioneering Slush machine for mobile ice cream vans. The fast-freeze Spin has two freezing cylinders and is exclusive to Whitby Morrison. The high performance Spin offers an unrivalled performance.

Super Tre Colore SpinThe New Rapida

These high performance machines are simply powered via a power take off from the vehicles engine. The Whitby Morrison patented Direct Drive System (DDS) was developed by Bryan Whitby in the early 1960s.

Through the use of various pulleys and an electromagnetic clutch system, the machine can be continually operated whilst the vehicles engine remains running at idle – very fuel-efficient. This again eliminates the requirement for any generator power and ensures the machine remains constantly available for serving – unlike electric machines, which often require lag time to refreeze.

The DDS continues to revolutionise ice cream mobiling industry; it allows you to take the ice cream to the people, no matter where they may be.

For indoor or special events where vehicle emissions may limit serving possibilities, an electric motor drive is available. This allows the Carpigiani soft ice cream machine to operate in the same simple

way as using the DDS yet mains electricity rather than vehicle engine powers the motor.

Working closely together, Whitby Morrison and Carpigiani have combined their technologies to develop the latest range of high output soft ice cream freezers.

The Whitby Morrison Power Pack System (PPS): Can provide 240v mains electricity absolutely anywhere. This is especially beneficially when operated at a site over several days; with the DDS in operation, the holdover can be frozen down throughout the day from the PPS. This ensures the stock remains frozen overnight, in readiness for the following days sales. This system can also allow the vendor to operate additional equipment such as a slush machine or chilled display.

The Whitby Morrison Electric Motor Drive (EMD):Is a fantastic development from the DDS. It allows the operation of the van model soft ice cream machine in locations where the vehicles engine would be inappropriate. On site power allows the EMD to be operated in specialist locations such as an indoor event whilst continuing to reap the benefits and high performance van model soft ice cream machine. The most important element of the EMD is the fact that it generates zero pollution.

The new PTO:The latest developments from Mercedes and Whitby Morrison advancements have enabled the development of an additional power take off (PTO). This system includes an alternative 240v electrical power supply driven from the vehicle’s engine. In turn, this offers the same opportunities as the Whitby Morrison PPS. The DDS is retained of course to drive the soft ice cream freezer.

At a time when the people’s tastes are increasingly varied it is important to be able to offer a selection of products.
