Press Release White October founder Dave Fletcher is Oxfordshire Young Business Person of the Year
White October’s Dave Fletcher Oxfordshire Young Business Person of the Year 2014 June 2014 Digital agency White October is proud to announce that the firm’s 36year old founder and managing director Dave Fletcher has become Oxfordshire Young Business Person of the Year 2014. Dave Fletcher founded White October when he was just 24, after completing a Mathematics degree from Nottingham University, and a stint at RM Education as an analyst programmer. White October is now one of Oxfordshire's most successful digital agencies, creating digital and web applications for organisations such as Foyles, Lambeth Council, Oxford Dictionaries and Open Data Institute. The accolade, sponsored by Oxford accountancy firm Shaw Gibbs, was awarded on June 20 at the county’s most prestigious awards event, The Oxfordshire Business Awards. Over 500 guests attended a gala dinner at the luxurious Four Pillars Hotel, Sandford. Winners, selected by an expert judging panel, were announced in fifteen categories, all highly contested by the county’s most talented and successful organisations and individuals.
On receiving the award Dave Fletcher says: “I am completely overwhelmed, and really proud to have achieved what we have at White October. From humble beginnings, we have grown into a team of very talented people doing lots of great work in the digital sphere. “As such, I feel that this award is a massive vote of confidence for everyone at White October.” Dave Fletcher founded White October when he was just 24, after completing a Mathematics degree from Nottingham University, and a stint at RM Education as an analyst programmer. With a passion for the web and its potential, Dave has kept at the forefront of technology, always gravitating towards projects that are novel or pose a technical challenge. His creative drive, technical grounding, and commercial awareness make him ideally placed to advise clients on product development strategy. Dave is a driving force behind Digital Oxford, a network for the city’s digital community which he is currently helping to incorporate to a trade association. He believes passionately that Oxford needs to promote its digital talent more to the outside world and has the potential to become one of the UK’s hubs for investors, employers and experts in digital technology. In 2012 he supported White October’s Technical Director John Wards in the setup of two major technical conferences for web developers: jQuery UK and All Your Base, establishing a new events company to run these and other digital events. While at White October Dave has forged ties with a number of UK universities, collaborating over new digital products in the social research and healthcare markets, and entered the company into a Europewide FP7 consortium researching the public’s perception to food risks.
