INTRODUCING OUR JUDGES

Albert WightI have been awarding CCs in the UK since 1969 and am now approved to award CCs in 90+ Breeds across all Groups except Gundogs. I have judged in 32 countries including the USA, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and extensively throughout Europe. I have judged at the World Championship Show, the Amsterdam Winner and at most of the major European countries’ premier events. In the UK, at all breed Championship Shows, I have awarded CCs over 700 times, judged over 90 Championship Show Groups and 21 Championship Show BIS. My first BIS appointment was at the Scottish Kennel Club show in 1986. At Crufts I have judged 5 Groups, over 30 individual breeds and was the BIS judge at the celebrated 100th Crufts show in 2003.

Carmel Clarke-O’NeillI have been brought up with dogs all my life. I started off competing over 20 years ago with Kerry Blue Terriers. I have made up many UK Champions and some overseas. I enjoy and am interested in many of the Terriers and have attended numerous breed seminars. I am passed to award CCs in 5 Terrier breeds. I look forward to my appointment and thank you all for the opportunity of going over your dogs.

Andrea MaltasI first began showing GSDs at around 15 years old, Mum had done it previously. She had won the rights to apply for her affix ‘Virlees’ as it had to be done then in the early 80s. We continued for years with the GSD but the affix was always in mum’s name. We had a deal she was the 'preparer' of the dogs and I showed them, I also handled GSDs for others. We had great success, then in the early 90s our interest in Rottweilers had grown immensely and so mum booked a male pup, then a few years later I got a bitch. In 2000 the Affix was transferred into joint interest. We have continued with the Rottweilers having many successes although we only ever have a few dogs at any one time. I first gave CCs in Rottweilers in 2014 and later GSDs in 2017. I have also judged Dogue De Bordeaux and Russian Black Terriers at Championship Shows but without CCs. I am looking forward to judging at this show and hope you all have a great day. Please continue to support your Open Shows they are dropping off dramatically around the country.

Angela ClarkeAlthough I’m probably better known in the world of Irish Terriers, having made up a Champion in the breed and owning and handling several Irish with Stud Book Numbers. I actually started out in dog showing some 21 years ago with my first German Shorthaired Pointer, with whom I enjoyed some modest success. It was while showing her I discovered GWPs and resolved that one day I would have one of my own.Following the loss of my third GSP, I had a ‘vacancy’ for another HPR Gundog, and on hearing of an expected litter, I decided to take the plunge. Four years ago Tynsil Tennyson came crashing her way into our hearts and lives! During the time I’ve had her I’ve been on a massive learning curve spending many hours at the ringside listening to running commentaries on the dogs being shown that day.As well as judging Irish Terriers and other Terrier breeds I have also judged GSPs, GWPs, Weimeraners and Vizslas.

Helen GeesonI have been exhibiting and breeding Dachshunds since 1985 and together with my mother we have breed 19 Champions to date. I first awarded CCs in Dachshunds in 2007 and have now awarded CCs in Dachshunds 16 times across all six varieties. I am a trustee of the Kennel Club Educational Trust and a member of the YKC Management Board. I judge all Hound breeds at Open Shows and am on B or C lists for the majority of the Group and have completed and passed Breed Specific Seminars/BAD/MCE for a large proportion. I am looking forward to judging some of the Hound breeds and the Group for Whitehaven & District Canine Association.

Margaret TophamAlong with my husband we initially owned a couple of Great Danes, later in the early 80s I bought our first and foundation bitch Marvid Virginia. She proved to be an amazing producer for me and from her progeny’s winnings I was eligible to apply for my affix, something that wasn’t so easy to do back then. I continued with the GSDs for some time with my daughter joining in later handling the dogs. In the early 90s I bought my first male Rottweiler and over the years Andrea and myself have had many successes. I have judged at club show level; last year I judged at Bournemouth Championship Show 2018 without CCs and previous to this I judged The GSD of the UK Open Show.

Christine RobinsonI'm Christine Robinson and in partnership with my husband Keith have owned and shown dogs for over 30 years. Our affix is Tazmanic. We have owned German Shepherds, then owned and showed Swedish Vallhunds, Rottweilers and a Gordon Setter. At present we own four Rottweilers and a Gordon Setter. Two of our Rottweilers in the 90s achieved their Stud Book Numbers as did one of our Swedish Vallhunds on winning a RCC. Presently, one of our Rottweilers has one RCC and one CC (with BOB). Another obtained her title of Champion winning one RCC and four CCs (one with BIS). Our youngest bitch has one RCC to date.I am on the Rottweiler Breed Council judging B List. I have undertaken stewarding at Open and Championship shows, and to date have judged 127 Rottweilers over 55 classes including two breed Open shows: Midland Rottweiler and Scottish Rottweiler Club 2019.

Sophie MitchellI only started my showing career in 2013, when I was 11 and have gone on to achieve some great results with my Whippets. My affix, Anndonmill, was granted in 2017. Most recently, this year I made up my first Champion: Ch Crosscop Glittering Prize. I am passionate about Whippets and this has led to me being invited onto various committees, including South Yourkshire Whippet and South Yorkshire Hound Society. In addition to showing my Whippets and other breeds I compete in the Junior Handling classes. At Crufts 2018 I was awarded the YKC Runner Up Handler of the Year.

HANDLING CLASSESYKC MEMBERS' HANDLING A. 6 - 11 years C. 18 - 24 yearsJudge: Christine Robertson (Tazmanic) B. 12 - 17 yearsOnly dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into an YKC qualifying class. Classes for handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday); 12-17 years (12 years and up to, but not including 18th birthday); 18-24 years (18 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please enter the class age category you will be on the day of the qualifier. If you should move into the next age range after you have already qualified, the YKC will invite you into the correct age group at Crufts. The method for Crufts qualification is a points based system as follows: 1st Place = 30 points; 2nd Place = 15 points; 3rd Place = 10 points. Members will receive points per group (i.e. if they handle a Bloodhound, they will get points towards the Hound group). If a member gets 30 points in any one group, they will qualify to enter a dog from that group at Crufts 2021. If a member gains 30 or more points in multiple groups, they may only compete with one dog at Crufts, but they will have the option to choose from any of the groups they have 30 or more points in. All points are reset to 0 on 1st January each year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. 16. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday

route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available

to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water

available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of

time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire

results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED.

17. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. The use of pinch collars, electronic shock collars, or prong collars, is not permitted at any show licensed by the Kennel Club. This shall apply at the venue or within the precincts of the show.

18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered.

19. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the Board of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

20. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is requested to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed event within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. Adequate receptacles for the disposal of such fouling will be provided.

21. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event).
