About Us

ICS Skills, the training and certification body of the Irish Computer Society, is Ireland’s leading provider of IT user skills training and is the national licensee for ECDL in Ireland. Over half a million candidates in Ireland alone have undertaken the ECDL programme. ICS Skills is a not-for-profit group, supporting education and promoting digital literacy for all.

Our commitment to bridging the digital literacy gap is demonstrated in our wide range of IT certification programmes, all designed to set the national benchmark in end-user computer skills.

ICS Skills leverages the support of both public and private organisations in order to improve skill levels and enhance productivity in the workplace. To date, more than 17% of the Irish working population has undertaken an ICS Skills certification.

“By completing the ECDL Core programme, my computer skills have been greatly enhanced. I found the e-learning system user-friendly and the diagnostic tests were beneficial in preparation for the certificate tests”Michael Murphy,(ECDL Candidate) Alkermes Pharma Ireland Ltd, Athlone.

Full Progression Path

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) computer skills progression path

“The ECDL certificate ensures that students are competent in computer use and gives them confidence when applying for work experience, part-time or full time work. They learn skills that they can use in all other subject areas in school and they are prepared for third level education – making presentations, project work, research etc. Students who have the ECDL certificate have enhanced career opportunities especially in times of recession.” Marie Monaghan, (ECDL Teacher) St. Aidan’s, Cavan.

8 further modules have been developed and will form part of an ECDL version 6 certification scheme.

Why should I choose ECDL?

• ECDL is a globally recognised qualification

• ECDL is the certification most widely recognised and highly valued by Irish employers

• ECDL allows flexible pathways to certification

• ECDL is online

• ECDL can be used towards a FETAC award

What is ECDL?

“I completed the ECDL in transition Year in my school and it was definitely one of the most enjoyable modules of the year. Before the module I really enjoyed working with computers, but the ECDL helped widen my ICT Skills and my confidence working with computers. I really admired the way it covered everything from spreadsheets to databases. I believe that completing my ECDL will give me a cutting edge in the workplace and make me more attractive to employers.” Laura Brennan, (ECDL Student) Dominican College, Dublin.
