• I am a fiercely proud “Okie”We have many responsibilities and titles in life but these

are perhaps the most important.

Oklahoma!“Where the wind comes sweeping down the

plains!”

My maternal great grandparents Ester and Nathan Gass moved west to settle in the great state of Oklahoma in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. This is how we all came to be proud “Okies.” Nathan was a home builder, a career change from buggy builder when Henry Ford introduced the automobile. They moved west to survive and never left. If you’ve ever been to Oklahoma, you’d know why.

TULSA

I was born in Grove, a small town on Grand Lake in Northeast Oklahoma.But we moved and I mostly grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Tulsa Central. Tulsa was once the oil capital of the United States. Many oil tycoons settled here and took interest in investing, some purchased land and built beautiful art deco buildings in downtown, others were philanthropic minded donors and supporters of the arts. That’s why Tulsa is home to several wonderful museums and a world class ballet troop and philharmonic orchestra.

Yes, it’s true….

It’s called Tornado alley for a reason, mostly between April and June in the early evening hours. You’ll also find beautiful lake sunsets, the state bird-the scissor tailed flycatcher and someone’s grandma is always baking hot delicious peach cobbler!

I received my B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from Oklahoma State after transferring from

both are excellent schools!

My nine year old is already looking forward to her Freshman year in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

CareerI worked in radio and

TV in Tulsa, OK, Joplin, MO, Louisville, KY and here in Colorado Springs in news, sports, traffic and entertainment. It’s a great job but does not pay well.

FamilyNot sure there’s enough room

here…I have a wonderful husband,

Chad and beautiful, sassy, witty, intelligent daughter, Hannah. The joy they bring fills my life up and over the top.

Hobbies

I love to cook, hike, garden and spend time with the family.

Those are bacon wrapped antelope chops with greens. My husband hunted the antelope. We also love target shooting as a family.

Responsibilities…

My in-laws have a cattle ranch in Lincoln County, Colorado. We help work cattle and harvest wheat.

Our FaithWe believe in one God, our

Father and we worship only Him. We are part of a very warm and wonderful congregation at First Pres here in Colorado Springs.

Freedom

I encourage my daughter to learn about history and what the founding fathers intended for our country. She even watched both national conventions and all of the debates during the election. We are in the process of learning the Bill of Rights.

Teaching• My dream

is to teach Social Studies to include

Civics and Government

Special Education

• I’m very interested in learning more about gifted and talented children and special

needs. A meeting for parents in District 11 discussed a growing section of students in special education as “twice exceptional”. They are identified as gifted and talented in one area with special education needs in another. This is interesting to me and I hope to learn more about it in this class.
