Growing Up

• When Dr. Seuss went to school, a lot of people threw rocks at him when he was walking home. He was German and they didn’t like that.

• Young Ted didn’t pay much attention to his schoolwork. He usually did doodling or writing jokes for his school newspaper. The one class that interested him the most was English.

Dr. Seuss’s Books

• Did you know that The Cat In The Hat wasn’t his first book? His first book was And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. After he completed writing his book, his wife would always check it because he always thought that it was a failure.

• He would usually rip out 500 or even 1,000 pages because they were not right.

Dr. Seuss is taking it seriously

• When World War II broke out, Dr. Seuss said “I promise that I will not write any children’s books until this war end’s.” Everybody was so sad that Dr. Seuss didn’t write books for 7 years.

• After the war, his sister Marnie died. Then Helen died and told him not marry anyone else, but he broke that promise. Dr. Seuss later married Audrey Dimond.

Dr. Seuss gets sick• When Dr. Seuss wrote Oh, The Places You’ll Go! , he told

everybody of where he went and all the other interesting stuff Dr. Seuss did. Dr. Seuss was 86 when he published that book. For most of his life (except for when he was a baby), he was a heavy smoker. When he went to the dentist office, Theodor Seuss found out that he had mouth cancer. Two years later, sadly Dr. Seuss died on September 24th , 1991.
