The Rosetta Stone was found by the French soldiers in Egypt but the English claimed its property.

Nowadays it is kept in the British Museum.

The Rosetta Stone is an ancient Egyptian stele inscribed with a decree issued at Memphis in 196 BC on behalf of King Ptolemy V.

This inscription is written in three languages (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek) because when it was made, there were three different scripts being used in Egypt

Its name is Rosetta Stone because it was discovered in a town called Rosetta. The town was founded around AD 800 and came to be known in the West as Rosette (Rosetta), the name by which it was referred to by the French during Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt.

One of the three languages of the Rosetta Stone was Hieroglyphs which were called, by the Egyptians, "the words of God"

Hieroglyphs are written in rows or columns and can be read from left to right or from right to left.

You can distinguish the direction in which the text is to be read because the human or animal figures always face towards the beginning of the line. Also the upper symbols are read before the lower.

We think that the rightful owner of the Rosetta Stone is Egypt because it was found in this country, so it must be moved to Cairo Egyptian Museum, which contains the most important documents and witnesses of ancient Egyptian civilization.
