Welcome to TERM 2 WEEK 4
Whole School Assembly - Our first whole school assembly for this term will be held in the library at 2:20pm this Friday May 24. See you there! School Contributions - A big thank you to those families who have paid all or part of their school contributions. Once again I emphasize how important these contributions are to programs such as dance, choir, ukulele, gymnastics, CAPA, most excursions and online learning licences. If you are having trouble with the payments please see Mr Speirs or Mrs O’Connell in the office. Reminder invoices will be sent home this week. High School Musical- Shrek - Our whole school will be travelling to Maclean Civic Hall to watch Shrek, the musical performed by Maclean High School students on Friday June 7 at 9:00am. A permission note is attached to this newsletter. There will be no cost for this excursion. PSSA Soccer - Last Friday our girls and boys soccer teams played Gulmarrad Public School in the PSSA knockout competition. The girls played first and displayed excellent defence and resilience to go to the half time break with the scores at nil all. The second half saw Gulmarrad score early and apply lots of pressure. Our girls once again gave it their all however we were narrowly defeated. The boys got off to a slow start and we were down 3 nil early on. However, we really kicked into gear with some great team work and a touch of individual brilliance from Riley, we fought back to level at 3 all with ten minutes to go. Gulmarrad scored a late goal and took the game 4-3. I was extremely proud of each and every student in both teams. When you consider the size of our school we can hold our heads high! Well done boys and girls and a big thanks to all the parents and supporters for transporting the kids and cheering them on! PSSA Netball - Good luck to our PSSA girls netball team when they take on Gulmarrad this Wednesday at the Wherrett Park sports centre. Welcome Miss Bouveng to 5/6 - We welcome Miss Samantha Bouveng to Year 5/6 for the next 5 weeks. Miss B is completing her final practicum and will be an asset to the class. NAPLAN - Naplan was completed today and I would like to congratulate all the Year 3 and 5 students for their positive approach to these assessments. Well done on your efforts and application! Thanks also to Mrs West for administering the online assessments.

Two students from each class will be selected to represent our school at the Spelling Bee on Thursday June 6. This is not the Premier’s Spelling Bee. We will also be participating the Premier’s Spelling Bee later this Term and into Term 3.
SRC News - Footy Colours Day: Wednesday 5 June - The SRC will be holding this year’s Footy Colours Day on Wednesday 5 June – coinciding with the opening game of the NRL State of Origin football game. Since 2005, funds raised through Footy Colours Day have helped young learners continue with their education while receiving treatment for cancer. Students are encouraged to dress in their favourite team colours – from any code. So, if
your favourite team is the Sydney Swans, Roosters or Tigers or maybe the Newcastle Jets
OR even The Maroon Queenslanders, come dressed in those colours and help support a
very important fundraiser. Don’t forget your gold coin donation! Let’s work together to
raise some money for this worthy cause and help children who are fighting cancer.
SRC News - Over the last few weeks, the SRC have trialled some of the large board and outdoor games last seen at our
school’s sesquicentenary. During lunch times, students have enjoyed playing these games with Twister and Snakes and
Ladders proving popular choices. There has also been some great strategizing during games of Battle Ship. Stay tuned for
the next lunchtime activity schedule co-ordinated by the SRC.
Canteen - This week canteen will be open Wednesday recess and Friday lunch. Lunch on Friday is crispy chicken wraps
with lettuce, mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce. Please indicate if your child wants either mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce
or both.
