In order to function in a work environment it is important to understand the environment and structure of the

organisation and industry you work in. It is critical to distinguish the different market segments, customer profiles

and buying habits applicable to the industry. The concept of profit and loss and an understanding of basic

business financial literacy further distinguish this industry from others. It is also important to know and

understand how to maintain a safe and secure environment in the workplace in order to be prepared to respond

to an emergency situation and incidents should they arise in the wholesale or retail environment
