Woodbridge High School Cheerleading Try-Out Information

Squad Information

1st tryout: freshman, JV & varsity football squads & basketball cheer squad.

A separate try-out will be for those interested in our competition team.

Squads:

1. Varsity Football Cheer: (sophomores, junior and seniors) Eligible for varsity letter

2. JV Football Cheer: (sophomores & juniors) 3. Freshman Football Cheer: (Incoming freshman only) 4. Varsity Basketball Cheer: (freshman, sophomores, juniors & seniors)

5. Varsity Competition Cheer: (freshman, sophomores, juniors & seniors) Eligible for varsity letter

Students will be given a choice of team(s) they are interested in trying out for.

o Students may try-out for football cheer, basketball cheer or BOTH. o Competition cheerleaders will not be eligible for basketball cheer. o Any cheerleader who does not make the competition squad will be given

the option to cheer for basketball. SPIRIT Tryouts: (3 days)

Clinic Dates: June 4th Mon, June 6th Wed: 6pm-8:30pm @ WHS Gymnasium

Try-Outs: June 7th Thursday

o Once they try-out, they are free to go Round 1 arrival time: 5:45pm (DON’T BE LATE!!) Round 2 arrival time: 6:45pm (DON’T BE LATE!!)

Football & Basketball Cheer Results

Results will be posted according to the assigned number issued to each

participant – no names will be used o Results posted on the gym lobby door 30min-1 hour after the last group

Competition Tryouts:

DATE & TIME: June 13th (Wed) 6pm – 9pm @ WHS Gymnasium

o Results: Cheerleaders will be told individually at the end of tryouts.

Deciding factors:

o Stunting: The ability to form the most solid stunt GROUPS Flyers: Flexibility & Stability

Bases & Backspots: Strength & Versatility o Tumbling abilities: (unassisted standing & running tumbling)

Season Commitments

Football Cheer Squads: **Tumbling not required**

o Attend the following: MANDATORY PARENT MEETING: 5th Quarter Club Meeting: June 12th @ 6:30pm – WHS Café

MEMBERSHIP DUES PAID at this meeting: o $12 1 cheerleader ($15 family: football or cheer siblings)

Bagging Sign-Ups & Game Volunteer Sign-ups o Football cheer practices throughout the summer:

Tues, Wed & Thursday: 9:30am-11:30am Blackout period: Wed August 1st – Sunday August 12th

o MANDATORY PRACTICES BEGIN August 13th for all Cheerleaders o Required to cheer at all games (schedules are subject to change) o Uniform fitting & ordering required dates: Monday June 18 – Friday June 22

Basketball Cheer Squad: **Tumbling not required**

o Mandatory Meeting: June 12th @ 7:30pm – WHS Auditorium o This Squad will cheer at ALL Girls & Boys HOME Basketball Games.

(Varsity Games ONLY) o Mandatory Practices will begin mid-October o Uniform fitting & ordering required dates: Monday June 18 – Friday June 22

Competition Squad (Comp Squad will NOT be cheering for basketball) ALL CHEERLEADERS who make the competition agree that they will NOT

cheer for outside rec or all-star programs until competition season is over.

o ANY cheerleader on ANY squad may try-out. o This squad will be selected by the coaches ONLY, not a panel of judges.

This is an overnight camp. Cost approx. $380.00

WHS Cheerleader: Behavior Contract Cheerleader’s Name: ________________________________________

As student athletes, you are bound by a higher moral and behavioral code than non-athlete students. You

will be responsible for conducting yourself in such a manner above and beyond the average student. If you

choose to accept this responsibility, you and your guardian must sign this contract, and in doing so, you

agree to abide by the consequences set forth below:

This applies to behavior both in and out of school.

The following violations may also result in suspension or dismissal from the team:

1. Using illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco at any time or engaging in illegal activity

2. Missing games, competitions or practices (unless excused by Coach)

3. Improper uniform (NO VISIBLE TATTOOS or PIERCINGS while in uniform)

4. Cutting class, school or excessive unexcused absences or tardies

5. Poor sportsmanship

6. Bullying and/or Harassment (verbal/physical/sexual/etc…)

7. Defying a teacher/administrator

8. Any unbecoming act (either in school or away from school) which, in the opinion of

the coach and school administration, warrants suspension or removal from the squad

9. Electronic COMMUNICATION and IMAGES (email, text, Instagram, Twitter etc.)

should be positive. If it is negative and/or inappropriate, don’t post it!!

a. You will receive ONLY 1 warning unless the offense is severe – then you

Consequences:

1. Lunch Detention = Suspension from half game and/or 1st Strike for Comp Squad

2. ACS = Suspension from full game & permanently removed from half-time routine

and/or 1st Strike for Comp Squad

3. ANY 2 suspensions from games and/or activities will result in removal from all

cheer teams.

4. All teams will operate on a 2 strike policy

5. Any Out of School Suspensions will result in removal of all squads

Attendance Policy: 1 & 2 are not punishments but rather school policy.

1. Absent day of game/practice/activity: No participation - No exceptions

2. Absent last practice prior to game / competition: No participation - Subject to

exceptions (example: funeral – cheerleader may only be removed from halftime)

3. Jobs, Sweet16 & other Birthdays, Vacations etc. are unexcused absences subject to

suspension from following game and/or permanent removal from halftime routine.

By signing below, you affirm that you have read this and fully understand the rules set forth by this

Contract. You are also stating that you understand that violations of the cheerleading team behavior

policies could result in your being dismissed from the team.

Hair: Secured in a pony-tail or bun.

NO BOW LOOSE HAIR, JEWELRY or NAILS!

Bring: 2 bottles of water, inhalers, small bag to hold personal items

Transportation: Please prearrange ALL transportation needs ON-TIME!

Uniform Ordering

Should you make the team, you are required to be fitted for your additional uniform items during the

dates listed below. (A shell, skirt & poms will be provided to you by the school) Leisure Sporting Goods will have your name and the items that you are required to purchase. You are paying them, not the

booster club or high school. If you fail to be fitted and order your items during this time, you will not have your uniform items in time for the first game & pep rally – and therefor will be unable to participate. If

sending cheerleader to be fitted alone, Leisure DOES take credit cards but the card and authorized user must be present at the time of purchase.

Items with approx cost: The following items are required of ALL MEMBERS! You may not use another style even if you have something similar. All cheerleaders are required to dress in complete uniform.
