WHY 1903?Orville and Wilbur Wright were two American
brothers, inventors, and aviation pioneers who are credited with inventing, building, and flying the
world’s first successful airplane.
On the 17th December 1903 the Wright brothers made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered,
heavier-than-air aircraft.
Near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville piloted the gasoline-powered, propeller-driven biplane, which
stayed aloft for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet on its inaugural flight.
