Jesus teaches in the Temple – Mon, Tues, Wed,

challenging the authority and teachings of the

Pharisees and Sadducees.

Then Jesus goes to a village called Bethany, on

the outskirts of Jerusalem, for dinner at the

house of a man he had cured from leprosy.

By anointing me, the woman is

pointing to the fact that I am the

Messiah – the Anointed one - showing this to

others.

The woman is understands that

my death is approaching, and

is preparing me for my burial. This is a prophetic action.

The woman has shown great love and

generosity to me personally. This sign of

her love will be remembered for ever.

But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has performed a good service for me. For you always have the poor with you, and you can show kindness to them whenever you wish; but you will not always have me. She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for its burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the good news is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.”

The woman has understood the

uniqueness of who I am. “You have the

poor with you always, but you will not always

have Me.”
