Why is the Nervous System important? The nervous system is important because it links all of the other systems together. The two divisions of the nervous system are voluntary and involuntary and the two main parts of the nervous system are the brain and the spinal cord. Another name for the brain could be mission control being that the brain controls every other system.

The main components of the nervous system are the brain, spinal cord, parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions. The central nervous systems job is to mainly receive then interpret and send out information for the rest of the body systems.

Sensory afferent neurons transfer information from the tissues and organs into the CNS. Efferent neurons move signals from the CNS to the effector cells and are sometimes called motor neurons. Interneurons connect neurons within certain areas of the CNS. Afferent and efferent can also refer to neurons which bring information to or from the brain

Nervous Systems

CNS- central nervous system; the brain, brainstem, and spinal cordPNS- pereferal nervous system; 12 cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nervesANS- autonomic nervous system; the respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems, helps with production of hormonesSympathetic Nervous System- fight or flight responseParasympathetic Nervous System- rest and digest

Alzheimer Disease-a gradual loss of memory

Tourette Syndrome- jerky movements, or tics, of the head, neck, and shoulders

Parkinson Disease- intentional movements become sluggish

Stroke- insufficient blood flow causes brain cells to die

Guillain-Barre Syndrome- a brain disorder when then immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system

-Alcohol makes the nervous system depressed.

-Continued use of alcohol causes damage to the frontal lobes and shrink your brain.

-Another side effect of contionued alcohol use is lack of vitamin B-1.

-Use of heroin causes nausea and hypothermia
