Why it’s important to have an IT strategy

You’re all steering the ship towards a common goal

Having a strategy means articulating a shared vision, mission or set of values – all stakeholders can work towards this shared vision.

And as an added bonus, everyone understands WHY they’re doing what they’re doing.

You can define how success is measured

How do you know you’ve achieved something when you haven’t defined what achievement looks like?

In your strategy you can outline what successful technology integration looks like in your school, and that way keep tabs on progress and what’s working and what isn’t.

It can influence decision-makingHaving a clear strategy for technology allows management teams to allocate investment and steer policy in order to help you achieve your outcomes.

Without a clearly communicated strategy, technology could be left behind at the bottom of their agenda.

It increases communication andengagementGetting everyone involved and working towards a common goal helps to improve communication between departments and ensure everyone is working together.

Everyone understands their responsibilities and their role in the strategy, and can effectively coordinate their efforts.

It ensures student success is priority

Articulating in a strategy how technology will support and shape teaching and learning ensures that the engagement and attainment of students remains in focus.

Before any technology investment, you should always ask yourself “How does this fit in with the school’s goals?” and simply: “How will this help our students learn?”
