Why re-building our communities together is Rotary’s focusIt aims to meet local needs identified by the
communities, not for the communities. It helps communities move from being
victims to being survivors with choice about their future.
It enables communities to be partners in rebuilding not recipients of charity.
It enables Rotary to help communities build on their own social capital.
Its what Rotarians do best!
Why not unsolicited donations of goods?People who have lost everything should not
be expected to be grateful for just anything.Goods will rarely meet needs unless
specifically requested.Poor quality goods are offensive to survivors
and impact on their dignity.Potentially damaging to the local economy.Storage, distribution and control is beyond
resources of Rotary Clubs.
Why cash donations? They enable individual and community needs
to be effectively targeted. They enable donors to be matched to specific
materials needs. They are cost effective to manage. They provide flexibility to meet needs of flood
affected communities in District 9630.They enable support of the local economies.
What community rebuilding projects? Those that are identified by the local
community as priorities. Those that bring back a sense of normality to
community lives, a sense of pride and community cohesion.
Those that are within the capability of District Rotary Clubs working together and in partnership with communities.
Those that use local resources to support the local economy
Targeting cash donations
Responding with specially requested goods donations
Identifying and engaging in projects with local
