The Insurance Day Awards prides itself on its judging panel, comprised of independent, senior industry experts each chosen for their knowledge, objectivity and credibility.

The role of the professional adviser is becoming ever more central to the London market and its participants. This award seeks to reward the often-overlooked contribution that professional advisers make to the insurance sector. It is open to any individual or organisation whose principal role is providing advice or service to the insurance industry.

This is a broad category open to insurers and reinsurers but judges would also welcome joint entries from carriers and brokers.

The winner will have shown a good track record for excellent claims handling skills or will have put in place a claims initiative which has benefited the customer and demonstrated innovation both in underwriting risk and dealing with claims.

The judges will focus on the skill of the claims paying process, including:

Talent and diversity have become key issues for the London market as it seeks to maintain its competitive position on the global stage.

This award recognises the organisation that has demonstrated a real commitment, creativity and innovation in harnessing the best talent.

Innovation thrives in difficult economic times, so we are expecting some strong entries in this category that encompasses fresh thinking in product, service and delivery.

The insurance world has faced numerous challenges over the years to stay ahead of the game. But in many instances it has coped manfully and this award seeks to reward the innovation displayed by insurers, reinsurers, brokers or service providers in achieving excellence to meet the needs of their clients.

The award will recognise the initiative that redefines the industry’s competitive landscape and raises the bar for customers’ or partners’ expectations.

The criteria are as follows: u Open to any player in the insurance industry

Insurtech is reshaping the insurance industry, introducing new and disruptive distribution models, and bringing new ways to improve operational efficiency. The London re/insurance market is not immune to these developments. Many companies are looking for ways to harness the opportunities that insurtech offers.

This award recognises the insurtech initiative that, in the view of the judges, will have the greatest impact on the London market.

Entries from early stage and more developed initiatives will be accepted. The judges will be looking for an initiative that is innovative and which can clearly demonstrate how it will improve existing business practices.

Managing general agencies (MGAs) are playing an increasingly important role in the market, providing new income streams for capacity providers and vehicles for innovative underwriters to bring new products to market.

This category is open to London market MGAs and service providers.

The award is for a successful initiative over the past year. This could include the launch of an MGA operation, or the introduction of a new line of business by an existing MGA. Innovative services to support the MGA market will also be considered.

The judges will be looking for evidence of: u Excellent underwriting performance u Outstanding service to carriers, brokers and

policyholders u The ability to provide new income streams

to capacity providers that they could not otherwise access

u If a service, the business benefits to the MGA market

RISING STAR OF THE YEAR AWARD

London’s reputation has been built up over the course of centuries, but for this award we are looking for the stars of the future.

They will have a good knowledge and understanding of the successes of the past − and the failures − but more importantly will have an appetite for innovation to address the developing needs of the 21st century market place.

The winner of this award will be an individual − under the age of 35 − working as an underwriter or broker in the London or Lloyd’s market who demonstrates:

This award will go to the team or company responsible for the most impressive transaction of the year in the eyes of the judges.

The transaction can involve the transfer of risk or a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition.

The winner will stand out by: u Showing innovation through a particular

transaction, deal or partnership; or u Demonstrating why the deal was one that

really made the market sit up and take notice.

Examples could include utilisation of capital markets, an acquisition or a capital-raising initiative.

The history of the London market resounds with iconic individuals who blazed a trail ensuring that London established itself as the centre of global insurance and more recently retained that title in the face of competition from new jurisdictions. 2/ Complete the online entry form at insurancedayawards.com explaining in 750 words or less, why you or your company should be considered a winner this year.

3/ Provide a 50-word summary of your entry.

The rules

u All entries must be written in English. u Limit your entry to 750 words. u All entries must be submitted via our online

entry system. u All entries must be accompanied by a 50-

word synopsis of the entry as you would like it to appear on all publicity material (this is in addition to the 750 word entry).

u All entries must be based on activities undertaken from January 2017 to August 2018.

u Do not provide any supporting documentation, all information should be included within your 750-word entry

u Plan ahead to ensure it arrives in plenty of time so that, should it be incomplete, there will still be time to correct and re-submit it before the closing date.

u All entries will be treated as confidential although Insurance Day reserves the right to publish positive extracts from winning entries.

FAQSQ. How do I enter?A. It’s very simple. Ensure you have read the entry guidelines and category criteria. Decide which category/ categories you wish to enter, prepare your entry off-line. Once you are ready click ‘Enter Now’ which takes you through the entry stages; follow the on-screen instructions and submit your entry by clicking ‘Enter’.

Q. How much does it cost to enter? A. Entering into the Insurance Day London Market Awards is free of charge.

Q. When is the entry deadline? A. Entries are being accepted up until the 1 September 2018.

Q. How will I know whether my submission has been received? A. All submissions will be acknowledged by an automated email once you have submitted your entry. Q. How do the judges select the winners? A. Once entries have been received and finalists selected they will be distributed to the judging panel. The judges will convene to discuss the finalists and will use the published criteria to individually evaluate each entry. The judging panel comprises independent, senior industry experts, chosen for their knowledge, objectivity and credibility. Judges discuss all categories relevant to their specialist knowledge, expertise and experience, ensuring a considered, educated response to your submission. The chair of the judging panel reserves the right to cast any deciding vote, should the need arise. The judges’ decision is final.

Q. How will I know if my submission has been successful? A. Following the judging all companies and individuals will be notified by email. Finalists will be announced on our website insurancedayawards.com and in the Insurance Day news bulletin. You will then be sent a finalist pack giving ideas and tips on how to publicise your success.

Q. What do I get if I win? A. The Insurance Day London Market Awards are highly regarded within the insurance industry, winning an award marks you out as a leader in your field. In addition to your trophy and a certificate of recognition, you will receive a winner’s pack which includes your awards winner logo, photos and ideas on how to publicise your success. Check out our top tips for entry1. Do check your entry meets the criteria

You’d be surprised how many entries get rejected due to ‘technical slip’. Our eagle-eyed judges will check the criteria. You should too.

2. Do stick to the word limit No-one wants to wade through an overblown entry full of frothy platitudes on why your entry is the bestest ever. Stick to the word limit.

3. Do enter more than one category There is no limit to the number of categories you can enter. A single project, deal or technology solution could work for a number of categories.

4. Do set free your inner journalist Reporters at media school have the ‘What, Where, When, and How’ drummed into them from day one. What is the entry about? Where did it take place? When did it happen? How did it come about? You can add one more: Why is it significant? Include facts and figures to back up your statements where possible.
