Why your centennial

is our centennial.

Fisher celebrates the American Chemical Society centennial with pride knowing we have worked with the ACS from the beginning.

A flashback will explain: although Fisher was incorporated in 1902, we trace our history back to 1851 through our predecessor firm, Eimer 8c Amend of New York City (a firm which we acquired later). The significant fact about E&A involves Bernard Amend who was both a businessman and a chemist. In 1874, he was one of a select group of chemists who was invited to the Joseph Priestley home in Northumberland, Pa. to celebrate the centennial of Priestley's discovery of oxygen. There, plans were made to organize a professional society of chemists. Two years later, the American Chemical Society was established and Bernard Amend became one of the charter members.

Starting with Mr. Amend, Fisher has supported the ACS in many ways. By membership and leadership in local sections. By advertising in ACS publications. By exhibiting at its meetings. And by making available the prestigious Fisher Award in Analytical Chemistry (established in 1948).

Fisher is proud of the part it has played in the Society's successful first century. And, in turn, we recognize the important role the ACS and its membership have played in the development of our Company. We depend on each other and progress together.

Your centennial consequently marks our centennial of support for the ACS. Fisher wishes the Society continued success for the century ahead.
