ChaplaincyTFG – Senior Weekend Away 2019 In Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5. In early January, students from Twyford and William Perkins attended the life changing experience that is the annual Senior Twyford Fellowship Group weekend away at Oakwood Youth Challenge in Wokingham. In a safe, supportive environment we were able to explore and develop our faith, surrounded not by classmates and teachers, but by brothers and sisters in Christ. The weekend followed the theme of John Bunyon’s allegorical novel, Pilgrim’s Progress. In a series of talks throughout the weekend, we learned about the author, his book, and three of the key themes: knowledge gained through journeys, the importance of reading, and the value of community. These talks were led by staff members, but delivered as fellow Christians, speaking about their faith with an openness that allowed us all to connect. Supplementing these were short reflections led by students. I had the privilege of leading a reflection on community, and I can truly say that (although like any community, not without its faults) I am extremely proud of our Twyford and William Perkins community. It was inspiring and exciting to see so many students leading worship and talks, and praying for each other, whether best friends or strangers. On the Friday evening we were all invited to privately write down a prayer to God of what we wanted from the weekend. The highlight for me was hearing people sharing their honest, vulnerable testimonies, and answers to prayer, and witnessing God perform amazing things through our community.

This was a weekend not to be forgotten, and it was particularly emotional for the – of us from Year 13 for whom this was our last weekend. It’s very exciting to see strong Christian leaders across the year groups in our schools, and I look forward to seeing how God uses us all in the places we go! Naomi-Ruth Bookless (Student Leadership Team - Head of Chaplaincy)

Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition Well done to all Year 12 students who participated in the Oxford Schools’

Debating competition last night. The event was held at St Paul’s Girls’ School and involved around 50 other teams. They had to debate unseen motions

including: “This House Would introduce an 100% inheritance tax” and “This House Would abolish separate award categories for males and females in the acting/music industry”. They did a fantastic job and are really starting to hone

their debating skills! Mr McCloskey

Bronze and Silver D of E

On Tuesday 22nd January we celebrated the D of E Bronze and Silver Awards from 207-18. It was a delight to see 53

students had achieved their Bronze Award and 18 had achieved their Silver Award. Mr Hickey (Bronze Coordinator) and Miss Brady (Silver Coordinator) were able to share some

of the highlights and then present students with their certificates.

On 26th January, 60 of the newly recruited 2018-19 Bronze and 30 Silver students took part in the DofE training day.

Activities involved first aid, cooking in the field, how to pack their kit and their essential route planning for their practice

expedition. Students had a fantastic day and the training staff were complimentary of their positive attitude.
