Job description:
Under the supervision of the Policy Advisor, Rule of Law, Justice and Security (P5), the
Policy Specialist on transitional justice is responsible for coordinating UN Women’s
global work on transitional justice, including in particular managing the EU and Canada
funded multi-year global programmes on gender and transitional justice and rapid
deployments of gender expertise to international and national justice mechanisms such as
courts, commissions of inquiry and truth-seeking bodies as prioritized in UN Women’s
2018 to 2021 Strategic Plan; providing technical advice and strategic guidance for UN
Women at the global, regional and country levels; making strategic interventions in
contemporary transitional justice processes to support their capacity to address crimes
against women, and providing hands-on technical support to UN Women country offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and programme support in the area of Transitional Justice:
• Lead UN Women’s programming on transitional justice, including by managing
implementation of UN Women’s EU-funded programme on gender-sensitive
transitional justice;
• Oversee the development, maintenance and deployment from a roster of international
criminal justice investigators with a focus on sexual and gender-based crimes who can
be rapidly deployed to national and international accountability mechanisms, including
by managing implementation of UN Women’s Canada-funded programme on rapid
deployments;
• Provide programmatic and technical support to UN Women country offices on gender-
sensitive transitional justice;
• Provide technical inputs to national capacity building and implementation of measures
to support gender-sensitive transitional justice;
• Provide technical support in global programme development and resource mobilization
for policy development on transitional justice.
Provide coordination and policy development support:
• Represent UN Women in relevant interagency coordination meetings, including
working closely with and liaising with the Global Focal Point arrangement on Justice,

Police and Corrections in Fragile and Conflict-affected settings, and in relevant
country-specific interagency task forces;
• Review and provide technical inputs to improve the UN’s approaches to transitional
justice and ensuring incorporation of gender perspectives, including in any
programming/advocacy, as necessary;
• Provide technical guidance for UN Women country offices and partners in the field of
transitional justice.
• Provide technical inputs to civil society and intergovernmental forums, as well as the
on-going work of international criminal tribunals and their legacy efforts;
• Organize expert preparatory meetings, panels and other interactive events on gender
justice in relation to transitions, post-conflict situations, and political instability.
Provide representation, partnerships and advocacy support:
• Develop partnerships with appropriate international civil society, governmental and
intergovernmental institutions to advance common goals in this area;
• Establish and nurture relationships with academia, research institutes, civil society and
experts in women and recovery and peacebuilding to expand and share knowledge,
exchange views on latest findings, incorporate cutting-edge thinking in UN work on
gender-sensitive transitional justice.
Provide learning and knowledge management support:
• Identify and develop UN Women’s research agenda on rule of law and transitional
justice, including by creating and disseminating knowledge products to support
gender-sensitive transitional justice programming;
• With UN partners, identify cross-regional needs and provide (where available)
capacity-building support for gender justice interventions, training or programming;
• Provide analytical support to collating, analyzing and consolidating lessons learnt/best
practice linked to UN Women’s in-country programming on transitional justice;
• Provide technical support the development of policy and knowledge on women, peace
and security.

Education:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the one of these fields: rule of law/human rights,
peacebuilding, transitional justice, gender and development;
• Experience in project management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation,
preferably in the areas of transitional justice, women’s rights or women, peace and
security;
• Strong knowledge of the UN’s women, peace and security mandate, and particularly as
it relates to transitional justice and the rule of law;
• Knowledge of United Nations and intergovernmental organizations mechanisms on the
rule of law, access to justice, and transitional justice, including, but not limited to
CEDAW Committee, human rights mechanisms and special procedures, the Global
Focal Point on Police, Justice and Corrections, and transitional justice processes and
frameworks;
• Experience conceptualizing and executing research projects in the area of women,
peace and security and transitional justice in particular;
• Familiarity with the UN system’s rules and procedures is an asset; and

(WEI) is now accepting applications for a Director of Development. The position is part-
time (20-25 hours per week), and will be available starting in February/March 2018. The
Director of Development will support Women Enabled International’s President and
Board of Directors in a variety of fundraising projects. We seek an experienced,
proactive, and entrepreneurial development leader to direct efforts to cultivate and
expand our donor universe. This is an opportunity to assist an expanding international
nonprofit realize its fundraising potential and increase its reach and influence. The
Director of Development will have assistance from WEI’s Program and Office
Coordinator and will partner with the President to implement our fundraising strategy to
expand WEI’s sphere of donors. The organization’s budget has been growing rapidly
since our founding, with the majority of our support coming from major grants and
private foundations via project based and capacity building grants. WEI envisions
sustaining its mission on this basis and enhancing and expanding our individual giving
funding base and other funding sources.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and lead the implementation of WEI’s annual fundraising plan and
serve as a collaborative partner to the President.
• Work closely with the President on foundation fundraising, project based and
unrestricted grant opportunities and the expansion of WEI’s individual donor

Within a small team also covering Europe and UN issues you will lead on policy towards
Sub-Saharan Africa and UN peacekeeping. You will ensure that HMG has a

Position Description:
This position is located in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Management
(OUSG/DM). The Department of Management, based out of UN Headquarters in New
York, supports United Nations duty stations, offices and locations around the globe on
administrative, personnel, policy and reform matters such as: human resources and
recruitment, staff development, training and learning; procurement of goods and services;
global logistics and service delivery; financial management, budget and accounts; travel
and transportation processes, facilities management, and more. The incumbent reports to
the Under-Secretary-General (USG) for Management.
Responsibilities:

agency fora such as the Chiefs Executive Board, High Level Committee on
Management, etc.;
• Co-ordinates and oversees the preparation of reports for presentation to
intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and
Budgetary Questions, Committee for Programme Coordination, Economic and
Social Council, the General Assembly and other policy-making organs, as
appropriate;
• Reports to intergovernmental bodies on budget/programme performance or on
programmatic/substantive issues, as appropriate, particularly those presented in
biannual and/or annual reports; and
• Ensures that the outputs produced by the Office maintain high-quality standards;
that reports are clear, objective and based on comprehensive data. Ensures that all
outputs produced by the office/division under his/her supervision meet required
standards before completion to ensure they comply with the relevant mandates.

The essential responsibility of the role is to manage multiple initiatives that use the first
and second Women, War & Peace series to strategically advance work in the Women,
Peace & Security field. These initiatives include: 1) A targeted, graduate-level screenings
program building on work done at a WPS curriculum consortium held at Naval War
College in 2017. This includes the creation of a specialized toolkit for students and
administrators aiming to incorporate WPS and gender analysis into their international
affairs coursework, and may also involve helping to coordinate a second consortium this
spring. 2) Screenings outreach to women peace builders and WPS policy-makers and
practitioners. This includes the oversight of materials development for these different
partners, including a specialized guide for women getting to the peace table. 3) A pilot
legislative screenings campaign that leverages the recent passage of the WPS Act. This
includes the production of a “WPS 101” film reel that incorporates scenes as “case

materials, including a discussion guide to facilitate conversations at film screenings, and

Position Description:
This is a Senior Research Fellow position in the Center for the Study of Weapons of
Mass Destruction (CSWMD) within the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) at
the National Defense University (NDU).
Responsibilities
• Designs, develops, and executes studies and analyseis to enhance understanding
of both the WMD threat to U.S. interests and U.S. responses to prevent, mitigate,
or eliminate the threat in support of the Center's JPME and research activities.
Coordinates the efforts of other staff in these areas.
• Designs, develops, and executes exercises, workshops, conferences, and/or other
meetings in support of the Center's JPME and research responsibilities, to
enhance understanding of both WMD threats to U.S. interests, and U.S. responses
to prevent, mitigate, or eliminate the threat.
• Teaches and develops curricula and pedagogical tools for use in the entire range
of Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) institutions in support of the
WMD Center's responsibilities for enhancing the teaching of Combating Weapons
of Mass Destruction (WMD) in the Joint Professional Military Education system.
• May supervise the work of more junior personnel, as assigned, including setting
annual work objectives, conducting performance evaluations, identifying training
requirements, monitoring work performance, and setting work priorities.
• Interacts with Center staff and personnel from the National Defense University,
U.S. Government agencies, foreign governments, and international organizations,
academia, and the private sector as required.

• Possess at least an earned Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
of higher education (or international equivalent) in an international
relations/affairs, security studies, political science, public policy, or national
security-related discipline or a technical degree relevant to countering weapons of
mass destruction; an earned doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred.
• Have a minimum of ten years of professional expertise or and knowledge in an
appropriate WMD discipline or field relevant to the CSWMD mission, preferably
associated with civilian or military components of the U.S. Government or
comparable experience at non-governmental organizations or other entities in the
fields of countering weapons of mass destruction.
• Demonstrate the ability to undertake research and policy support projects,
especially related to countering WMD issues, to serve as a principal investigator
on such projects, and to prepare and supervise preparation of cogent written
products of such projects.
• Be skilled in developing and delivering briefings in relevant areas dealing with
international affairs or national security policy and decision-making.
• Demonstrate the ability to teach and to develop curricula and pedagogical tools
for use in graduate-level education.
• Have experience interacting and collaborating the ability to interact and
collaborate with staff and personnel from academia, the US government, foreign
governments, international organizations, or the private sector.

program deploys 35 resident scholars and experts organized in five research clusters, who

the international order. Our Washington, D.C.-based team is enhanced by a network of
distinguished fellows and nonresident fellows who bring a broad and deep array of talent

Responsibilities:
• The Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) at the Brookings Institution,
with the support of the Council for the United States and Italy, is accepting
applications for a Visiting Fellow for a period of nine to 12 months. The Visiting
Fellow will conduct his or her own research on foreign policy topics affecting
U.S.-European relations and will contribute to the Italy-related dimensions of the
Center’s activities. The fellowship will begin in early 2018.
• The Visiting Fellow will carry out innovative and practical research on a spectrum
of political, security, and economic topics related to U.S.-Italian and U.S.-
European cooperation and shared interests. The specific research agenda will be
shaped in part by the expertise and interests of the Fellow and could include such
policy-relevant topics as how the transatlantic relationship should deal with
strategic challenges and opportunities—including threats of terrorism and

• Applicants should have either substantial policy experience (at least five years) or

The Center for the National Interest is seeking energetic undergraduate and graduate
