HISTORY OF WIKIPEDIA

•Wikipedia is an offshoot of Nupedia which is now an abandoned project.

• Wikipedia was publicly launched on January 15,2001 on domain www.wikipedia.comby Wikimedia Foundation in English.

•Later it was changed to www.wikipedia.org

• In May 2001 it was launched in other languages as well.


Wikipedia is a new Version of Nupedia that enables modifications in Existing Articles.


•Wikipedia has a large contributor base.

•Available in around 253 different languages making it global.

•It is possible to acquire Knowledge as well as share knowledge.

•It is open to editor from diverse backgrounds for adding their own articles.

•It is possible to edit existing articles in case of factual errors or other flaws.

•Wikipedia has numerous editors to monitor recent changes to avoid any misleading information.
