This 13 day solos tour has been purposely designed with adventure enthusiasts in mind. Guests of our Borneo discovery tour will kick start their Malaysian journey relaxing in Sandakan before setting off on an adventure of a lifetime. The clear, tranquil waters will beckon you as we set sail for Selingan Island where you will witness the amazing sight of turtles nesting and their offspring scrambling their way across the sand to the open seas. From island waters to deep thick jungle, solo travellers will have one of the most remarkable experiences as they get up close and personal with the marvellous orangutans at a local rehabilitation centre. This will be followed by a drive through rustic countryside and villages and a serene river cruise to take

    in the extensive wildlife and wilderness.The adventure doesnt stop there. Next stop is an exploration of the Kinabatangan River, Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake and a relaxed walk through the thick jungle. Youll work your way up into the tree tops during a 41 metre high canopy walk and discover the incredible wildlife and primate species that Borneo is so well known for. Your legs might get a good workout throughout the tour, but there will be time on the way for a little R&R particularly on your visit to the natural sulphur waters of the Poring Hot Springs. You will also have a chance to invigorate your spirit as you take in the incredible sight of South East Asias highest summit, Mount Kinabalu. Just when you thought there couldnt possibly any more, we will take you to discover the unique cultural highlights of Kudat. Here you will meet the local Rungus people, try out your

    skills of gong-making, explore the pristine white beaches and savour the flavours of the regional cuisine.     DETAILED ITINERARYWILD BORNEO DISCOVERYDay 1 [6th February 2016]: ARRIVE SANDAKANThe start of your adventure will see you arrive at the Sandakan Airport where you will be greeted by our representative at the arrival hall before being transferred to your hotel.At the hotel you will have ample time to settle in and relax before meeting the group for a welcome drink and tour briefing at 6pm.

    Day 2 [7th February 2016]: SANDAKAN - SELINGAN Meals: Breakfast / Lunch /

    DinnerAt 9:00am you will be picked up from the hotel and taken to the jetty before heading off on an adventure to turtle island by boat. The hour long journey will take you to Selingan Island, about 40km north of Sulu Sea just off Sabahs east coast.

    Here you will discover the main nesting area of the local green turtles. Your day will be spent relaxing along the shore line, swimming or snorkeling in the waters of the island at your leisure. All the action will take place after dinner when the Park Ranger takes you to witness the amazing sight of the turtles laying their eggs. They will collect their eggs from the nesting site, plant them in the hatchery and let nature take its course when the tiny baby turtles scramble quickly towards the open sea.

    Day 3 [8th February 2016]]: SELINGAN - SUKAU Meals: Breakfast / Lunch /

    DinnerAfter breakfast, you will depart early at 7:00am to return to Sandakan. Your guide will then take you to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre located deep in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve.

    Here you will have the opportunity to learn about the rehabilitation of young or strayed orangutans before embarking on a spectacular walk through the lowland rainforest. The highlight of the day will take place at the viewing feeding platforms where you will witness orphaned orangutans enjoying a spot of morning tea.

    Your day will continue with about a 2.5hr drive through rustic countryside studded with villages until we reach

    Sukau, Kinabatangan River. A short boat ride will take you to your accommodation at Borneo Nature Lodge. After check in, guests can enjoy a late afternoon river cruise to see many proboscis monkies & other wildlife along the river bank. Hotel: Borneo Nature Lodge -

    DinnerNo need for alarm clocks today as you rise to the morning sounds of birds, insects and animals. The early morning 6.00am start will see you enjoy a leisurely cruise up to The Kinabatangan River and into the Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake. We will spend some time here spotting the local wildlife before taking a short jungle walk (if weather permits) to experience the real wilderness of Borneo. You will return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast after which

    DinnerAnother early start will see you heading off to the stunning Poring Hot Springs where you will enjoy a laidback lunch. Here you will have the opportunity to rejuvenate as you bathe in the natural sulphur of the springs. On the 41m-high canopy walk, we will challenge your fear of heights as you climb closer towards the treetops while discovering the resident birds and primate species.

    DinnerDay eight provides you with another day to experience and learn about the unique culture of ethic Rungus people of Sabah. Here you will have the chance to brush up on your skills of gong-making and honey bee farming. You will also see the incredible crafts of woven basketry and intricate beadwork. The afternoon will be at a slower place as we travel to the Northern tip of Borneo. The pristine white beaches will take your breath away as you kick back and collect a shell or two.     Health & Fitness Information Participation in our Borneo tours requires a good level of fitness and you should be in general good health. The tours frequently include walking for extended periods often over uneven ground and/or uphill. Factors such as bumpy roads, dust, traffic, stairs, humidity, delays and unfamiliar customs and cultures also add to the physical toll. Keep in mind you will sometimes need to carry your own bags.

    Altitude sickness: You may also be affected by altitude sickness. Parts of our trip go above 2800 metres where it is common for travellers to experience some adverse health effects due to the altitude - regardless of your age, gender and fitness. It even happened to Sir Edmund Hillary!

    Before your trip: Some pre-existing medical conditions are known to severely worsen at high altitude and be difficult to adequately treat on the ground, leading to more serious consequences. It is imperative that you discuss your pre-existing medical condition/s with your doctor. We understand certain medications are reported to aid acclimatising to high altitude.
