 Will and Intent – Integration

Hello and welcome to the third class in our course on Will and Intent. This will be anintegration class, in which we will begin to turn a few terms in a new vocabulary into a shared language. In fact, this whole course is meant to be an act of contemplation andreflection on a few words. Think about these words and what they mean to you. What

do they ask of you? What possibilities do they open for you? How do they changethings?

WillIntentThe context of everyday The context of infinity ChoicePath A path with heart

Power A powerful life A life of powerGaining the totality of yourself  WarriorThe song of the worldStopping the song of the world

These words mean something special in the warrior’s context. They describe something

in contrast to our normal experience. They can be understood. They can be experienced.

They have a surface, which you can approach with words. They have a depth, which youcan enter through contemplation. They have a reality, which you can manifest throughaction. These things can be learned. Would you like that?

In its strictest form, the life of a warrior is possible only for a very few. In its widestform, an ordinary life is the only possibility for almost everyone. This course is meant forthose who live, or want to live, between a powerful life and a life of power, betweeneveryday and infinity. Do you think that might be you?

Here is some homework you can do before we come together for the next class:

If you have lived without a watch for the last week, put it back on for three days. Noticeany change in your awareness, however subtle, between wearing your watch anddeliberately not wearing it. Then remove it again for four days, and observe any changesyou may experience in your relation to your everyday life.

Follow the same pattern with the exercise of stopping the song of the world.

In some traditions, a mantra is used to quiet the internal dialog. This is very simple andvery effective, even in the midst of everyday turbulence. I want you to add it to yourhomework assignment. Since mantras are usually part of specific spiritual traditions which are not useful here, I will give you a mantra that will have no cultural associations.

As you go about your daily business, mentally repeat the sound of “Mmm-Hmm,”mmm on the in-breath and hmm on the out-breath. As you do this, let the sights andsounds of the world dissolve into unnamed energies.

Finally, spend some time every day reflecting on one or more of the words and phrases

we have talked about in this class. Let them enter your vocabulary with the intention of shifting your awareness. Remember any questions or insights this produces. Write themdown and bring them with you to the next class.
