Institute for Legal Informatics

The Institute for Legal Informatics (IRI) was founded by Prof. Wolfgang Kilian in 1983 as the first of its kind and became the biggest and most prominent Research Institute in the field of Information Technology Law in Germany. Today the IRI hosts 5 Professors and 25 Research Associates, who investigate and teach this fast changing legal discipline. International students who would like to specialize in IT Law can enroll in a specialized LL.M. Programme or conduct the Summer-school in IT Law (IN SITU), which are both held in English.

IN SITU

The Summer School IN SITU offers a four- week- long academic training in IT Law, where people from diverse cultural and legal backgrounds come together and learn about this exciting new area of law. The course is taught in English by highly qualified IRI staff and guest lecturers from our partner universities. However, IN SITU is not just about learning, it is also about making new friends and becoming part of the “IRI-Family”, an ever growing network of IRI staff and alumni. As such the focus is not only on the academic curriculum but also on the social aspect. Students are invited to live to-gether in accommodations, where they sleep, cook and eat together thus facilitating the exchange of ideas about the course and own research projects. To foster this dynamic the IN SITU Orga Team organizes several leisure activities such as trips to Hamburg and Berlin.
