The Anah Shriners

William “Bill” DawsonPotentate

Greetings Nobles and Ladies: You have honored me with election as your Potentate and my best service is pledged to you. The honor is accepted in memory of my beloved second father and Lady Lauri’s Dad, Bob Macleod, whose footsteps lead me here. My hope is that you each have read the story of this jour-ney in last month’s Anahgram. You will understand in some small measure why I am humbled to be your Potentate. Thanks to Past Potentate Clyde Reynolds for ap-pointing me to somehow fill Bob’s shoes in 2001. What a wonderful January Ceremonial! On behalf of Anah’s Divan, my sincerest thanks is extended to every Noble and his Lady who helped make the weekend a success. A memorable and meaningful time was had by all. To the Second Sec-tion, who staged an incredible Arch Pro-duction, a very special thank you from the bottom of my heart. Since the birth of my granddaughter Harmony, I have dreamed of carrying her under the Arch to symbol-

ize all that we stand for because there is no better wayfor a newly-elected Potentate to begin his service. To Noble “Fireman” Fred Parsons who performed a moving 9/11 tribute, “Thank you my friend!” We are blessed by your membership in our or-ganization.My greatest joy of the weekend was see-ing Onie Macleod sitting alongside her son, Brent, as a member of his Dad’s class of new Nobles, while I was installed as your Potentate. To all the members of Bob Macleod’s class of candidates: congratula-tions and welcome!! You have joined the world’s finest fraternity where lifelong fun is committed to helping children.

A wonderful turnout of Anah’s Past Po-tentates and their Ladies was made all the more moving by the fact that Anah lost its oldest living Potentate, Charles Lang of Belfast, on December 24, 2010. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Mer-edith Lang, a longtime friend toLauri and me, and we thank her for at-tending this Ceremonial weekend. We thank sincerely our Grandmaster, Most Worshipful Louis Greenier, for spend-ing the weekend with Anah. Words can do no justice in expressing the gratitude that Lauri and I feel for all the Nobles and their Ladies from Waldo County who sup-ported us during the January Ceremonial. Included among them is Past Potentate Don Maxim and Lady Bert who traveled north from Florida. My sincerest thanks to the old potato farmer from Thorndike for nominating me for election. Waldo County Shriners and their Ladies are hard at work planning a great summer Ceremonial in Belfast on June 16, 17, & 18. Mark those dates on your calendar and plan for a good time. Nobles and Ladies, Lauri and I look forward to a fun year. Lauri likes to say, “we hope you have fun, because we know we will.” The slogan for the year is “let’s double our fun in double one!” Lots of ac-tivities are planned, starting with the Mur-der Mystery Evening on March 5, and the

The Funsters held their January monthly meeting at the Shrine Center in Bangor where the secretary’s report and treasur-er’s report were both read and accepted. And since it is January and we don’t have a lot going on right now, the meeting was over fairly quickly. I’d like to congratulate all the new No-bles for joining such a great organization. Congratulations also to our new Potentate for 2011, Bill Dawson, and the newly- ap-pointed Donald Gordon as Outer Guard and Captain of the Guard Timothy Dutch. Also, the Bill Dawson Ceremonial t-shirts are now on sale! Get yours today; they are a great design and selling fast! The Funsters would like to send out birth-day wishes this month to Diane Clark, Bob (Elmo) Hasey, Dave (Big Bird) Hasey, Shawn Cookson, Jesse (Pink Panther) Thomas, Jackie Harris, Sterling Bunker, Olivia Spencer, Sam Lindsey, Mandie Al-len and Destiny Lancaster. In closing, our next monthly meeting will be Monday, February 14th at the Shrine Center in Bangor at 7:00.

He served as President of the Waldo County Shrine Club in 2002. He helped to organize the Dryden Dutch Memorial Golf Tournament which is sponsored by the Waldo County Shrine Club. He cur-rently serves on the Board of Directors of the Waldo County Shrine Club.

Newly initiated Nobles:To receive the most benefit from your membership for yourself, your family and the order look into taking part in-your local Shrine Club and/or join one of Anah’s many fine units.

Tri-County Shrine Club held their month-ly and Annual Meeting on the 15th of De-cember. We met at Noah’s Landing in Dexter. The twenty-something Nobles en-joyed a very delicious meal served up by the Staff at Noah’s Landing. NOBLES, WHEN WE HAVE OUR MONTHLY MEETINGS, WE GUARANTEE 30 NO-BLES. WE HAVE NOT MADE THIS GUARANTEE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE CLUB HAS TO PAY

THE DIFFERENCE. WE DON’T EX-PECT YOU TO SHOW UP FOR EVERY MEETING, BUT IF THE MEETING IS IN YOUR AREA, COME AND SUP-PORT YOUR SHRINE CLUB. After a Libation Hour under the direction of New Libation Master, JR Rollins, the meeting was called to order by President Merrill. The Invocation was given by Noble David Mosley. The Flag Salute was led by Presi-dent Merrill. A Moment of Silence and Prayer was offered in remembrance of Past Potentate Gilman F. Friend. Annual reports were given by the Secre-tary and Treasurer. Both reports were ac-cepted as read. The nominating committee presented the slate of officers for 2011. President Donald Merrill; Vice President Douglas Dulac; Secretary and Treasurer will remain the same. New Directors will be the father-son team of Conrad Rollins and JR Rollins. Motion made and second-ed to place $1,000.00 into the Potentate’s Fund for 2011. This fund is for our own High Priest and Prophet Lee Kaufman, who will be expected to be elected Poten-tate in 2013. Noble Marty Taylor passed out Circus Awards to deserving Nobles. Motion was

made and seconded to donate $1,000.00 to the two Shrine Hospitals. Our other dona-tions will remain the same. Units in At-tendance were Second Section, Photo, Pa-trol, Band, Convertibles, and the Aides. Ambassador Roger Chesley was in atten-dance. Winner of the 50-50 raffle was Noble Conrad Rollins. No further busi-ness, the President thanked all for coming, and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

It sure is funny how you get too old to learn some new way to be foolish.

Three people identified the January “Who is it” person as Noble John “Bob” Mott who is a long time member of the Second Section. Joyce Pinkham was first and called Recorder Sonny Crocket. Second was Noble Denny Hill, third was Noble Larry Doughty. If you know this month’s entrant, or think you do, call Recorder Sonny Crocker at 942-2254 or email the Edi-tor with your answer at [email protected]. First one to call gets the free booster listing. More photos are needed to keep this piece working. If you have a photo you think would be of interest email, mail to or drop it at the Recorder’s Office for future use. The photo should not show the Noble in his Fez or other Shrine re-galia as it might make it too easy to be recognized. There is no guarantee your photo will be returned.

On this cold January 15th, 12 of us marched during the January Ceremonial for the eight new Nobles that joined the Shrine Organization. Welcome new Nobles. The cake and candles this month are for the following Nobles: Joe Briggs, Bill Harmon, Don Moulton, Arthur Herbest, and Tom MacDonald, the Ladies, Chari Briggs and Ellen DeWitt. Birthday wishes to ALL of YOU. Happy Anniversary to Noble Arthur Grant & Lady Violet. wishing you Many More. If I have missed anyone please let me know. I can be contacted at [email protected]. We march so they can walk.

10 THE ANAHGRAM Newly-installed Potentate Bill Dawson appointed Don Gordon as Outer Guard. Potentate Bill had the responsibility of ap-pointing another member to the appoint-ive divan as Second Ceremonial Master to replace Randy Rudge who had been appointed to the position of Director of Membership at Imperial Shrine headquar-ters in Tampa. He appointed Noble Tim Dutch of Belfast who is the son of Bryant and Joan Dutch and nephew of the late P.P. Dryden Dutch. Everyone adjourned to the hospitality room for a period of relaxation. Following the period of relaxation at-tendees were invited to the dining room for a dinner of one’s choice. Prior to din-ner all the dignitaries were escorted into the room and introduced. The Divan of our sister Shrine, Kora Temple, was wel-comed. Music for dancing by D. J. Dana Wilson was available until 11:00pm which wrapped up a successful Annual Meeting/Ceremonial.

ANAH SHRINE CENTER – Bangor, Maine January14-15, 2011 The Annual Meeting/Ceremonial opened with a social event in the form of a Hos-pitality Suite on Friday evening at the Shrine Center sponsored by the Waldo County Shrine Club to honor Chief Rab-ban William “Bill” Dawson on the eve of the Annual Meeting and Election of Of-ficers. Weather, important as always during this season, was clear and cool, but no precipitation. That made for a good crowd as there were no impending storms to be concerned with. The business part of the Annual Meeting started at 7:30 am on Saturday with can-didates reporting to the Directors Staff for the issue and fitting of their Fezzes. At 8:30 am Potentate Charles “Chuck” Kennedy opened the Temple according to protocol for the purpose of hearing reports of the various groups within the organiza-tion and electing officers for 2011. Chief Rabban Bill Dawson was elected Potentate, Anthony “Tony” Bowers was elected Chief Rabban F. Lee Kaufman was elected Assistant Rabban, Thomas “Tom” J. Clukey was elected High Priest and Prophet. Harold W. “Sonny” Crocker P.P., Recorder was re-elected as was Ju-lian S. White as Treasurer, Albert Gibson, P.P. was re-elected as Assistant Treasurer. The afternoon program consisted of the Acadamecians degree team initiat-ing the eight candidates into the Shrine. The Black Camel ritual was performed by 2010 Potentate Charles “Chuck” Kennedy in honor of the 80 Nobles who passed to the unseen Temple in 2010. The Second Section presented the “Arch Presentation”, a demonstrative presenta-tion of the values of Masonry. Noble Krayton Allen presented the ren-dering of “The Old Red Fez”. Potentate Bill gave a tribute to Noble Bob Ma-cLeod who was appointed Outer Guard and passed away unexpectedly soon after his appointment. Newly- installed Poten-tate Bill Dawson, son-in-law of Bob, was appointed as Outer Guard as Bob’s re-placement. A tribute to the memory of the people who were lost during the 9-11 at-tack on New York was sung by “Fireman Fred” AKA, Noble Fred Parsons. At the request of Potentate Bill, Past Potentates Rodney Pinkham and Donald Maxim installed the 2011 Divan. The eight newly-inducted Nobles were called to the front along with their spous-es, mates or sponsors who invested them of their Fezzes and they were presented with the new Potentate’s pin.

Noble Ron Bilancia, Reporter Hello Fellow Academicians. - Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a terrific Holiday Season. Dues, Dues, Dues. It is that time of year again. Unless you are a recently-admitted new member, have a membership status exempt from dues (i.e. honorary), or have already paid your 2011 dues, please send your $10 annual dues to me at your earliest convenience. Checks can be made pay-able to Anah Academicians (NOT “Anah Shriners” - oops). It should be mailed to Ron Bilancia 8 Lincoln St. Brewer, ME 04412. Sending in your dues in response to this announcement is much appreciated as it saves us costs in paper, ink, enve-lopes, and postage. Everyone at the January 15th Ceremonial did a great job. Special kudos goes out to the Makeup Section under the direction of Donny Copeland. The makeup was done in a very timely and proficient manner. Of course the Properties guys, Technicians, and Ritualists all did very well, and we again received many compliments from the dignitaries at the Ceremonial. Yours truly has been very busy with work, running school clubs, and coach-ing as usual. Lauren is in swim lessons, ice skating, enjoying her after school pro-gram, and is as creative as ever. Sally is working hard as usual in her job with the Susan Komen Foundation. We are look-ing forward to a February ski trip to New Hampshire, and a return to Disney World in April. I hear tell that Donnie Copeland and Vir-ginia will be embarking on a return trip to Ireland. At the Ceremonial I enjoyed his many stories about their previous trip to the Emerald Isle and wish them an enjoy-able return when they go. The next business meeting will be Wednesday, March 30th at Happy China Buffet on Stillwater Avenue in Bangor starting at about 6pm. Ladies, kids, other relatives, friends, prospective, members, etc. are invited, so let’s please have a high turnout. Have a great February everyone. Don’t forget to kiss your sweetheart on Valen-tine’s Day. And, as always, don’t hesitate to contact me at 989-2617 or [email protected] with any news, gossip, jokes, outright lies, or just plain old com-plete and utter nonsense that you would like to generously share with our Nobles, Ladies, and Anah Shrinedom in general.

KOUNTY KLOWNSNoble Patrick T. Patterson

Reporter

Hello once again from the Anah Koun-ty Klown Unit! Well I should start out with a correction to last month's letter. . .Noble Kenneth Stewart is Aroostook Shrine Club's new-est Secretary. Had I known I had given credit to my Brother for writing last month's report, I would have misspelled every other word and told a naughty joke or two . . . Not much going on between now and the Circus with the exception of a recent function where Moochie, Koleman, and the magik man Stan Baker (also known as Papi) made their appearance at the Wesleyan Church on January 2nd to tie balloons, and Papi did his magik act for the kids and some adults. I would like to add that Moochie and I were duly and truly impressed as Papi wowed the crowd in his Penguin Suit and sleight of hand. Of course Koleman knows Papi's sleight of hand all too well as Koleman has been the brunt of said sleight of hand a number of times. .. Papi's things "were at the cleaners" so he would be ready for Clown College coming up January 22nd. He's been heard mumbling things like he needs to beat Japo again this year in the Whiteface Division. . . Hmm sounds like a challenge to . . .. but seriously, we are very proud of our Noble Brothers the Clowns and Klowns of Anah who made our Anah Clown Unit shine last year. I believe Piggy took the balloon sculpting 1st place award -- guess I should have sat with him and practiced as we rode home on the bus from consistory last year! Gizmo took first in Auguste and Digah took home second, and Sprinkler came in second in the Character category. Speaking of Sprinkler, the Kounty Klowns have renamed our newest Bosz

Klown "Tiki". We can laugh and poke fun now at our Brother Klown but it was a very serious accident the night Sprinkler ran out of pellet fuel starting gel and de-cided to use Tiki fuel oil. It caught on a hot coal and flashed back on him causing first and second degree burns on his hand and forearm. Knowing there's always some-thing good to go with the bad, at least Sprinkler aka Tiki can use this as a what-not to do example for future classes at the Fire Station. At our last meeting the decision was made to start training, mentoring and practice "classes" for Joeys and Seasoned Clowns to share their ideas. The first of such meet-

ings will be held tentatively on the 6th of February after Aroostook's Shrine Club and Klown Unit meetings and will run approximately two hours or so then we will meet our Ladies at the Oriental Pearl for fun and frivolity. The Kounty Klowns would like to extend an invitation to our Southern Clown Brothers to attend if they are so inclined. The 6th of February is also the weekend of the World Cup Biathlon so you may want to call ahead to reserve a room as we are expecting massive crowds in the area OR call your Kounty Klown brothers to see if they have rooms.

The Anah Divan sat for Noble Dick Kilton to take this portrait. They are L-R Front row Harold “Sonny” Crock-er, Recorder; Donald “Jesse” Thomas, Oriental Guide; Thomas Clukey, High Priest & Prophet; Anthony Bowers, Chief Rabban; William L. Hello all. I hope everyone is enjoying the New Year. It’s February now and winter is two-thirds over. Hopefully the ice is thick and no issues with winter sports on the ice.

Be careful; check the thickness as you go along to make sure there is plenty to hold you up. We had a great turnout at our first meet-ing of the WCSC this year. It was held at the Lee Pellon Center in Machias. What a great place. Thank you, Ed, for letting us use your facility. The camel keeper for the evening was our president, Bill Stern-burgh. MASONRY’S PLACEFROM APRIL 1960

ANAHGRAM What of your Masonry?

Is it put by, Doffed with your apron, forgotten to lie dormant and void, inef-ficient and vain. Till in the Lodge you resume it again? Listen, my Brothers, Masonry dwells out in the world, not in rooms and cells. It feeds the hungry, defends oppressed, lifts the languishing, soothes distressed. Masonry is in shop, street and store fully as much as behind the tiled door; ‘Tis not a thing to be hidden away, It’s to be worn, used, lived every day.Anonymous

Mike but he’s learning. Thanks Bill, you did a great job. Again, if anyone would like to help out and be our Camel Keeper, please let Bill know. There were 20 members there, and Mike Look, a guest speaker who is the President of the Downeast Branch of the Quality Deer Management Associa-tion (QDMA). He did a great job pre-senting the information about food plots and thoughts on how to manage the deer population. It sounds like managing the coyote population is the top priority. If you get a chance to attend a QDMA meeting, do that, it would turn out to be quite interesting. Present at our meeting besides Bill were Assistant Treasurer of the WCSC, BJ Cherry; 2nd Vice President of WCSC, Jonathan McClure; Captain of the Mini Cars, Todd Alley; Assistant Director, Dave Weaver; Secretary of the Mini Cars, Joe McDonald, George Gaddis, Dick Gardner; Lobster Boat Captain, Carroll Chandler; Lobster Boat Unit member, Bill Sinford; Ambassador, Runtz Farn-sworth; Imperial Photographer, Dick Kilton; 2010 WCSC President, Mike Doran, who won the 50/50 raffle; Greet-ers Mike Bailey and Robert Look; Di-rector’s Staff, Donnie Wright; Past Po-tentates, Ed Pellon and Ed Sprague; and Orator, Brad Prout. I know what you’re thinking, there are only 19 nobles men-tioned but I said there were 20 nobles present. When I took this job I didn’t say I could count, I said I could type, somewhat. Thank you all for coming, even the one or more I forgot to mention. Howard Bagley, Renee McGuire, PP Albert Gibson, Bert Maxim, PP Alward Mehan of Luxor, Sheila Mitchell, Chief Rabban Jesse Thomas, Stanley Mitch-ell, PP Guy Chapman, Thomas Fernald, Pauline Wood and Keith Lentovich are all blowing out candles for their birthday in February. Anniversaries for February are Howard and Beverly Bagley; Renee and Brett McGuire; Todd and Sandy Alley; and Jake and Velma Orcutt. Congratulations on your years of wedded bliss. Don’t forget about the Murder/Mys-tery event that’s coming up at the Shrine Center on March 5th. Call and get your tickets at the recorder’s office. The tick-ets are on sale there for $20.00 a ticket. It’s being held the same day as the unit seminar that’s held every year at the Shrine center. If you have any news you would like me to put in the monthly articles, please let me know and I’ll do my best. The next meeting is on February 3rd at Helen’s Restraurt in Machias and it’s a ladies’ night. Please come and enjoy the time.

Patient Story from Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Springfield, MA

My Challenge By Ronald Hill

The most influential moment in my life has been my birth. My early arrival and medical complications scared my parents, my doctors, and my relatives. The issues that resulted from my premature birth made me “different”. I walk “funny,” one of my legs is about half an inch shorter than the other, and I prob-ably will never be an Olympic athlete.

Although I was raised to be a patient child, a patient fetus I was not. I managed to shock everyone by popping out of the womb two and a half months prema-ture. Unnerved by my early arrival, doctors ordered an immediate CAT scan, revealing severe hemorrhaging; this discovery caused them to label me as in “grave condition.” While nurses placed me in an incubator bundled in tubes and sensors, the doctor, unoptimistic of my fate, offered my parents counseling. Mom and dad, simply overjoyed by my arrival, refused and patiently waited three weeks for me to be released from the clutches of the incubator. In the beginning things didn’t seem so bad. My first steps around the kitchen weren’t very different from most toddlers’ first attempts at tottering around. I wob-bled, tripped, I fell…I wailed at the top of my lungs. Normal – just a little later that everyone else. But my legs remained rotated at an odd angle. I didn’t gain the typical confident swagger of a two and a half year old who had mastered the art of marching across the living room, much to the delight (and often terror (of his parents. I was different. I had a challenge. My “challenge,” as it turns out, had a name. According to the doctors and medical professional we visited I had mild cerebral palsy. CP for short,

Greetings from the members of the Anah Indy unit. A lot has happened since the last writ-ing. A wonderful Christmas has come and gone, a New Year has started a new chapter in our book, and the January Ceremonial is behind us. I would like to congratulate Illustrious Sir William Dawson Jr. as the new Poten-tate of Anah Temple. A special thanks to the rest of the Divan for doing such a fine job with the operations of Anah Temple. Our last meeting was held January 5th at the Aroostook Shrine Club. The Aroostook Shrine Club is replacing their lights with a more cost efficient bulb. The Indy Unit voted to give $251.00 toward this project. We met the challenge of the Klowns. We also discussed and took care of some final planning for our fishing derby. This will be held at Arnold Brook Lake. We would love to have all of you who can catch a fish to come and participate. Prizes will be awarded. We also voted to sponsor a table at the Murder Mystery Dinner being held March 5th at the Temple. Several of our members are looking forward to this. Sorry I don’t have more to enlighten you with, but we are in the dead of winter and our cute little cars are in hibernation. Speaking of hibernation, good bye until next month.

.I’m a self-made man but I think if I had it to do over again I’ call in someone else.

Congratulations Potentate William Daw-son! Here we come Belfast . . . If I told you it was cold in Florida right now you probably wouldn’t care. But how about this? Florida so far this year is the only State in the union not to get any snow. All the other 49 States have gotten snow this year. Okay, I bet you still don’t care, do you? The Kampers in Florida got together on January 12th at the Golden Corral restau-rant in Zephyrhills for lunch. Our hosts were Gordon and Connie Lawrence and we all were complaining mightily about overeating, all 19 of us. Our best wishes and prayers go out to Selma Larson for a speedy diagnosis and recovery from her recent bout of malaise. Charlie attended the lunch and brought us up to date on her condition. We have the 2011 schedule all set: The spring outing is set for May 13th and 14th at Palmyra Campground. Make res-ervations on-line or at 207-938-5677. They have a very good facility for us so rain will not dampen our activities. The June Ceremonial this year is the 17th and 18th of June in Belfast. We have two campgrounds available to us. The closer of the two is Northport Campground. Make reservations at 207-338-2077. The other is Searsport Shores and reservations may be made at 207-548-6059. It will be a very busy weekend in Belfast this year as the bicycle Trek Across Maine ends there that weekend. MAKE YOUR RES-ERVATIONS NOW. And be sure and tell them that you’re an Anah Kamper to get your discount. The Blueberry Festival is August 18th, 19th, and 20th. We will camp again with Ed and Esther Pellon as our hosts. Make your reservations with me at 207-991-4810. This is a great time with lots of so-cializing. The fall meeting is on September 16th and 17th at Balsam Woods. You can make your reservations at 207-876-2731. This will be the Annual Meeting of course. The Christmas Party this year will be at the Shrine Center on December 11. And it will be a real party this year with some different fun things planned. Noon meal as before; but much, much more! Birthdays being celebrated in February include Bill Harmon, Betty Shedd, Carole Green, Deborah Luce, Karl Saddler, Kay-lee Reed, Joseph Briggs, and Chari Briggs. Anniversary dinners will be enjoyed by Charles & Selma Larson, Greg & Bernice

Well, here we are, February, black flies just around the corner. Hope everybody is having a great winter. Not like they used to be twenty years ago, thank God. Our next meeting will be Monday, the 7th of March. Talked to Charles Ryder, and he is feeling better every day. We all hope to see him back for the summer. Birthday wishes go out to Gloria Blake and Scott Folsom. Also, it has been brought to my attention that I missed Scot Averill’s birthday on December 13th. Sorry about that Scott, and you can thank

Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.

The Nobles shown above are members of the Waldo County Shrine Club with their Ladies who gathered to extend their con-gratulations as a group to newly installed Potentate Bill Dawson upon his long awaited election and initation. Potentate Bill and Lady Lauri are in the center of the picture. Near the right end is Noble Ryan Otis and his ladly with their very young son who is really enjoying the festivities all dressed up in his little tux. Hi there Brethen! I'm writing this column without the benefit of having read my predecessor's last column so please forgive me if I repeat things. I'm going to start off by reminding ev-eryone that the Mini-Bike Unit took part in Bangor's Festival of Lights Parade. It was pretty wet out, but there was no ice on the parade route. It was interesting to ride with no lights through the dark and rain. We all survived without injury to man or machine. I took a look around that eve-ning and unfortunately didn't see any other Shrine Units rolling through the streets of Bangor. Come on paraders, it's your last chance to perform for the year gives that little boost of excitement before the rides have to be put up for the winter. I'd like to

Noble Charlie Plourde, Reporter The Waldo County Shrine Club held its Annual Meeting on January 13th. New-ly- elected officers for the 2011 year are President Ryan Otis, Vice President Mark Babin, Treasurer Dave Bowen, and Secre-tary Charlie Plourde. Outgoing President Walter Ash Jr. brought the meeting to order, thanked everyone for the work of the past year and turned the gavel over to President Ryan Otis. The meal was scallop stew prepared by Reggie Toothaker and his crew of helpers. There were around 45 Nobles in attendance which is a record for this meeting in recent years. Thanks to all those who came and for Reggie preparing the stew! Sadly the club lost two Nobles recent-ly. PP Charles Lang and Richard LeSan passed away. Charles was Potentate in 1960 and was the oldest Past Potentate in the US. Back when the Bay Festival was held in Belfast, the Club used to park cars on the front lawn for a fundraiser. Richard always could be found working that event for the Club. They will be missed. Waldo County’s own Illustrious Sir Wil-liam Dawson Jr. was installed as Potentate this weekend. Congratulations to him and Lady Lauri for the great time. Also congratulations to new Captain of the Guard Tim Dutch and Outer Guard Don Gordon. Of the new candidates at the Ceremonial five of them were from Waldo County. We look forward to welcoming them to our meetings. Many thanks to PP Chuck Kennedy for his great 2010 year and all the support he gives to the Waldo County Shrine Club. The Waldo County Shrine Club hosted the Hospitality on Friday evening of the

Ceremonial. Many Club members were in attendance to help, but hats off to Dave and Betty Bowen, Ryan Otis, and Ray-mond and Katrina Young for spearheading the work. If you went away hungry, well what can I say? Also, the “after hospitality” hospitality was hosted by Duncan Brown and Dan Murphy. They had a houseful for both nights until 2 – 3 am and sounds like ev-eryone had a good time. Kind of got in the way of Duncan’s sleep as his head is usu-ally on the pillow by 9pm! Oh and I wonder if anyone got a picture of Duncan in his tux, and with Harley Da-vidson suspenders no less!! President Ryan tells me the February 10th meeting’s meal is shepherd’s pie. See you there!

see some more Shrine Units deck out the rides with Christmas lights and take a trip through Downtown Bangor on a Decem-ber evening. Trust me, you can still see the smiles on the children's faces in the dark. In other news, like all units, the Bikes are seeking some additional riders. We have several bikes in storage just waiting for someone to fire up the engine. Perhaps there are one, two, or more of our new-est Nobles who like to ride. Most of our members ride "normal" motorcycles as well as our mini-bikes and last summer we trailered the minis and did a group ride to the parade. There's lots of fun and camara-derie amongst the members and we have plenty to share with anyone interested in joining us. Depending on when this issue gets out to you, the Mini-Bike Valentine Dance will either be upcoming or have come and gone. Hopefully, you'll have remembered about the party and taken your child(ren) or grandchild(ren) to the party. I've taken my daughter the past couple of years and she has had a blast. In fact it was through the party that I got to know the Mini-Bike Unit and decided to join the Shrine and the Mini-Bikes. This event is for the chil-dren, and with the help of Anah's Clowns, the kids certainly have fun. There is also plenty of excitement for the parents, espe-cially with the hard work Coralie, Jessie, and Mandi do to get raffle items. Until next time, remember to always keep your ride upright and try not to skip gears. Four more months and we will all be parading through the UMaine Campus for the Special Olympics opening. Now that's a thought that'll keep you warm this winter!

Apologies go out to everyone who may have looked for the Second Section arti-cle last month. I guess a computer glitch prevented my article from getting into the Anahgram. Although a little late, I would like to start off by wishing everyone a safe and happy new year. During our Decem-ber meeting we elected a new Slate of Officers for 2011. A Tip of the Fez goes out to our outgoing Director Darrell King for two years of service to the Unit as our Director. It is a very time-consum-ing position and we would like to thank Darrell for his services over the past two years. New positions elected are Director, Doug Dulac; First Assistant Director, Al-bert Higgins; Second Assistant Director, Adam Beals; Treasurer, Jerry Hayes; Sec-retary, Fred Patterson; – Electrician, Tom Breitwig – Quartermaster, Chris Robison; Hospitality Chairman, Doug Hardison with the assistance of Joe Rollins. Con-gratulations to all elected members and I look forward to working with all of you throughout the coming years. A big thank you also goes out to our past Secretary, Dick Newcomb for his years of service. Because of his health he had to step down as our Secretary. Dick was also presented with the Bob Mott award from Director King for his years of service to the Unit. Congratulations Dick, it is well deserved. Divan representatives for 2011 are Past Potentate, Recorder Sonny Crocker and Director Andy Constantine. My tenure as Hospitality Chairman came to an end and I would like to thank those who helped me out at all of the meetings. Especially No-bles Joe Rollins and Mike Gray who were always willing to come early and stay late if needed. Our January meeting was held at the Shrine Center with 35 Nobles present. New Director Doug Dulac opened the meeting and reported on the recent New Year’s Eve dance hosted by the Unit. Al-though there was a small group of people at the dance, I think everyone had a good time. A special thank you goes out to La-dies Robyn Dulac, Jamie Beals, Monica Patterson, and Dottie Wellman for their job well done on providing the hors d’oeuvres for evening. Ticket sales were down but we would like to thank Past Po-tentate/ Recorder Sonny Crocker, Noble Darrell King and Kayla Wass’ family for selling most of the tickets for the event. The Kayla Wass band provided the music for the evening, and Stevie’s served and excellent meal at midnight for all to enjoy. The January Ceremonial is over and the Second Section performed the Arch De-

gree production at the event. As I was away on a family vacation, I was unable to attend but I’m sure everything went well. Congratulations to our new Potentate Bill Dawson. We all look forward to a great year with Bill at the helm. The Potentates’ Party will be over by the time this is pub-lished and more to follow on that event in the March Anahgram. As all of the elder Second Section mem-bers know, we have a very unique tuxedo jacket that we wear at our formal events. We have no material left to produce any new jackets and are currently out of the larger size jackets for new Nobles coming

into the Unit. If anyone has any jackets in their possession and are willing to let it go to a new Noble contact an officer so we can arrange to get it back. We do have a secondary green jacket available to those who don’t have this old-style jacket, but some would like the old style if they can get it.We are still only seeing a small showing of members at our meetings and people just get excused every month and never come. Director Dulac has promised to keep the business part of our meetings to an hour or less, so come on and see what’s going on

Happiness is that peculiar sensation you acquire when you are to busy to be miserable.

VISA and MASTERCARD are ac-cepted at the Recorder’s Office

It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions

and join in to help out. As of the January meeting, it will be required to contact an officer to be excused if you can’t make it. Director Dulac has set up numerous com-mittees to oversee all of the various func-tions we are working on. If anyone needs a list of committees and the designated chairman or co-chairman, give an officer a call or an email for that information. I would like to look into corresponding monthly with the Nobles by email instead of the postcards we have used for a num-ber of years. If anyone has an email ad-dress and would like to be set up to receive notices this way send it to me at [email protected]. Belated January birthday wishes go out to Nobles Henry Babcock, Chad Cirard, Richard Hardison, Jr., Darren Nason, Richard Newcomb, Chris Robison and Clayton Wallace. February birthday wishes go out to No-bles Jonathan Holmes, Stephen Northup, Charles Sisson, Mark Taplin and Matt Va-chon. Belated January wedding anniversary wishes go out to Mark & Veronica Taplin and Jay & Tammy Redmond. February anniversary wishes go out to Dennis & Debbie Hill, Greg & Bernice Currier, Joe & Novilla Rollins and Kray-ton & Carol Allen. Congratulations to Noble Dennis Hill for winning the 50/50 at our January meeting. It will allow him to get something real nice for Lady Deb-bie for their anniversary this month. Our next scheduled meeting will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Shrine Center. As dues are paid in the January meeting, a dues card is required to get into the Febru-ary meeting. For those who have not paid their dues, see me at the next meeting to get that taken care of. Remember, if you can’t make it to the meeting, contact an officer or any member to be excused. If anybody has any news or something they would want to share with our Nobles, con-tact me anytime at 944-0340 or email me at [email protected]. Until next time, be safe and think spring!!

The holidays have come and gone, the snowbirds have gone south, ice fishing has opened for the season, a new Poten-tate has been elected and Anah Shriners Annual Ceremonial has concluded. A great start to a new year. With that said, let’s get down to business. The number one item on the agenda is the Annual Keystone Kops Golf Tourna-

ment scheduled for May 22, 2011, at Her-mon Meadow. All are invited to come and enjoy the first Keystone Kops event of the year. Celebrating birthdays during the month of February are: Nobles Danny Taylor and Lloyd Hopkins. Congratulations to Danny and Lloyd and may you have many more. There are no Ladies birthdays or anniver-saries. Last month’s questions were: In what year did Miller High Life begin promoting itself as The Champagne of Bottled Beer? The Answer: 1911. This month’s question is about music and television. What musical group played the introduction song for the original Ha-waii Five-O television series? Just as a footnote, the new Hawaii Five-O was just voted number one new drama series. Some would say it’s not a good as the original and some would say they don’t remember the original. The time has come to close the blotter for this month. As you walk down the road of life the Keystone Kops would remind you that it’s all about the kids. The next Keystone Kops meeting is March 29, 2011. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Well the ramp truck is tucked away warm and dry waiting for green grass, warm weather and the crowds to gather beside the streets once again. I am also ready to go again. I have had a good winter but enough is enough. The Unit Christmas Party was a great time once again this year. It was even beneficial for some of our members such as the one member who received what is called a boot saver; which should save him a lot on parade boots. Captain Dave got a real nice music player that any guy would like to have We also had another great meal provided by the Clown Unit, followed by words of wisdom from Cap-tain Dave. Happy Birthday to Ralph Bernaque, Pat Kelly, Kayla Reed, Beth Leighton, Louise Magoon & Polly Thompson.

The January 4th meeting was held at Pat’s Pizza with 29 members present. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 by new President Joe Kitchen. I’m not sure where our new vice president was, but hopefully he’ll show up at some point. Old and new business was discussed. The gun raffle is well under way and going well. If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, now is a good time to buy your sweetheart one for Valentine’s Day. If you’re feeling lucky, maybe you should buy two tickets. Dave Weaver was the lucky winner of the monthly raffle. A good meal was had by all. The meeting adjourned at 7:30. The next meeting will be February 1st at Pat’s Pizza at 6:30. Let’s all get out, bring a fellow Shriner and enjoy a nice evening. I still haven’t had time to track down Tom Fernald to see if he wants to go east and find that Mercedes. I’d like to look at those rusty trim rings again, and I’m sure Bud Morrison would like to go with us. I stopped in to check on Noble Gordon Robbins the other day. He was trying to give me ice fishing tips. He said a good bait to use was Hershey’s kisses, and he thought it would be a good idea if I bought stock in the Hershey Company. I think he was pulling my leg, but I haven’t given up on the idea yet. Heard the other day that Noble Cecil had a “ding” in his truck. He took it to a lo-cal garage, just to find out he had left his emergency brake on; in the meantime he had turned his radio up to cover the noise. P.S. I’m some glad he found a garage that could fix the problem. My lady and I enjoyed a nice, cool va-cation in Florida with temperatures get-ting up to the mid 40’s. We laughed and chuckled, and I told her we were just get-ting ready for the cold weather back home in Maine. Our daughter, Joy, spent a few days with us. Noble Mike and Lady Nancy Madore were home for the holidays before return-ing to Florida. I called Noble Forrest the other day to check how the ice is on Molasses Pond, but he didn’t think we should get too fierce about ice fishing yet. On New Year’s Day, I stopped to pick up Noble Forrest and we headed to Molas-

ses Pond. On the way, we stopped just to check to see if Noble Wayne’s camper had moved. I want to reassure him that it was still there. I think there was only one or two inches of snow; well maybe there was more than a foot. We could still see open water. Hopefully, spring is just around the corner. There are still some gun tickets left. Let’s get out and get them sold and support our Club. Those celebrating birthdays are Pat Coolidge, Rose Lee Carlisle, Jeri Walls, Barry Hamilton, Elizabeth Trimm, Nan-cy Robbins, Faye Geel, Brad Prout, Earl Ashmore, Frances Lowell, Brenda Thom-as, Joe Kitchen, Regina McHenan, Dick Leeman, Linda Nickerson, Normal Hill, Betty Fernald, Lucy Sprague, and Marjo-rie Smith.

Honeymooners are Noyes & Grace Al-bee, Dan & Ellen Duff, and Edwin & Faith Colburn. Until next time, enjoy the cold and the snow!!

Immediate Past Potentate Chuck Kennedy takes the podium to thank the Nobles and Ladies of Anah for their support during his year as Poten-tate.

Another new year is here and the first month is almost over and by the time you receive this Anahgram, the second month will be almost over. Before you know it, spring will be here. Today we had the Jan-uary Ceremonial, which our part went well except that we missed Zeke and his drum. We had our Christmas party last month at the Muddy Rudder with most of the mem-bers and their Ladies attending and seem-ingly all had a good time. Dennis played Santa again this year. He also was the Shrine Center Santa for the children’s party. At least, he knows where he can get a job if times get tough. Ellie Rand was also with us, it’s always nice to see her. Sue and Dennis are now basking in the sun of Florida, if it’s still there? Herb and Gloria plan on leaving the 23rd of January and are going to try and hook up with Den-nis & Sue for a round of golf and then onto a Caribbean cruise. Gerry and Jackie are doing well and trying to keep track of their many grandchildren and maybe great-grandchildren as well, I’m not sure. Ralph and Mary Ellen looked fine and mostly healthy as we all do. It was nice to see Paul and Cindy make it to the party. Paul will be installed The Grand High Priest of the York Rite in April. The installation will be in Bangor and he would like to see as many of us to come that can

make it. Carlton and Rosemary are al-ways a joy to have at a party. We want to extend our thanks and grati-tude to Chuck Kennedy for his year rep-resenting us as our Potentate and to con-gratulate our new Potentate Bill Dawson and we wish him the best. Let’s give a big Happy Birthday to Glo-ria and Ella. There aren’t too many born in February, I wonder why? No anniver-saries, I know why, too cold. Until next time, “Keep your WIG-WAM”

Greetings Fellow Nobles: The Ceremonial has come and gone and the Chanters changed their repertoire. The wording has been changed in some of our songs and this is givingsome of us fits. After singing the same songs for so many years the newwording is coming hard for us. If you lis-ten carefully you may be able totell who among us can still handle change. Hello Nobles, The Clown Unit had another quiet month (not counting catering events). The only activity I have information to report on is the monthly Home Depot Children’s Workshop. It was on January 1st with the following Clowns in attendance: Jappo, Div-it, Sweet-P, TC (Trash Can) SlapShot, Patches and Wow-E. A nice turnout con-sidering it was New Year’s Day. Mark your calendars for the Clowns An-nual Casino Night. The date is Saturday night, March 26. Tickets are available through the members of the Clown Unit. The Recorder’s Office will also have both Casino Night tickets and Raffle tickets available. Just stop in and see Sonny or Carol and they will set you up with tickets.

That’s all I have for now.

The Highlanders legal staff has advised that the information and/or views contained within the Highland-ers Anahgram article may not be that of the opinion of the Highlanders, Anah Shrine or anyone else for that matter. The Anah Highlanders had a nice Christmas Party/Annual Meeting in early December. We were very pleased to host our Divan Rep. Bill Dawson, his Lady Lauri and two of their lovely grandchildren. Long-time Highlander supporter Al Gib-son and his Lady Barbara were also in attendance. We are always very pleased to have Emeritus Highland-ers in attendance. This year, Charter Emeritus members Don Galupe and Dick Trott and their Ladies were in attendance. Other Emeritus mem-bers who were in attendance included Wayne Gifford, Frank Mcgillicuddy and their Ladies. Officers for the coming year will be Cliff Wells, President; Richard Bowden, Vice-President; Tony Smith secretary & drum corporal; Lance Trundy, treasurer & drum sergeant; Paul Hazzard, pipe major; Mike Grant, pipe sergeant; Ernie Smith pipe corporal & quarter master; Tom Sawyer, drum major; Mike Murphy, reporter. By the time this goes to print we will have taken part in the Black Camel Ceremony and fellow piper Tad Simpson’s installation as Wor-shipful Master of Meridian Splendor #49. The Highlanders are working on several new tunes and are practicing every week in preparation for another busy parade season. In any given year the Highlanders perform or take part in 8-12 parades, the Ceremonials, 2 concerts on St. Patrick’s Day, the Shrine thing at the Mall near Easter, 1-2 Master Mason degrees, 1-2 Ma-sonic Installations, a couple miscel-laneous events and about 25 Sunday afternoon practices. We have a great time and enjoy our work. Most of us can only make a percentage of the above events, so it is important that we constantly add new members. We are in need of Drummers and Pipers, we will teach anyone who is interested! Drummers have virtu-ally no expense in joining and they have just as much fun as the pipers. Contact me at pipingleprechaun@ho-

tmail.com if you are interested in joining. Emeritus Highlanders Mike Clark and Jim Gillan had a tradition of providing historical information on our uniform and tunes. I would like to start a trivia con-test each month. This month’s prize is a Highlander baseball cap. E-mail your response to [email protected] with a subject of trivia; Highland-ers and their immediate families are not eligible to participate. This month’s ques-tion: What percentage of our atmosphere is comprised of “Green House Gasses” and what is the most abundant of those Green House Gasses”? I’d accept a nar-row range as amounts can vary by source. In the event that multiple people have the correct answer, I’ll place the correct an-swers in a hat and draw a winner.

Noble Ken Stewart, Reporter Well hopefully everyone has settled in for the long winter ahead. January 2nd was the first meeting of the year for the Aroos-took Shrine Club and was opened by new-ly-installed President Papi the Klown (aka Stan Baker). A great breakfast was pre-pared by the Club’s Building Trust mem-bers. A wonderful prayer was given by PP Richard Hallet. No Fez fines and the 50/50 was won by Poe Goe the Klown. The club has recently purchased a laptop for the secretary and it was presented to the Secretary (Ken Stewart) by President Bak-er. This laptop will ease the transition pro-cess from one secretary to another. At the present time things are fairly quick in the

County. By the time this article is read the ASC and its Units will have attended the January Ceremonial in Bangor. Good times will have been had as usual for all who attended. The ASC will be having a Pot Luck Supper on February 19th at 6:30 at the Club right after the Indy Unit spon-sored Fishing Derby. No charge for the supper, but please bring a dish of some sort. Nobles, ladies and close friends are encouraged to attend. The Fishing Der-by will be held at Arnold Brook Lake in Presque Isle with Registration starting at 7:00 a.m. $10 per person or $20 per fam-ily. No fishing license will be required on that day only On another note the ASC has begun us-ing Calling Post to remind members of upcoming meetings and special events. Calling Post is a wonderful invention; it is an automated calling system, which will allow the secretary to contact all ASC members in a matter of minutes. This will be a huge time saver for the secretary. If I happen to contact you at one number and you would rather I use a different num-ber, please feel free to let me know what number you would prefer or if you aren’t receiving a call at all by the end of each month, please contact me at the e-mail address below or phone number so that I may add you to the calling list. A reminder for those that have a regular membership to the ASC, the 2011 dues are $5 and are payable at anytime via the secretary or can be mailed to Aroostook Shrine Club, P.O. Box 1601, Presque Isle, ME 04769, Attn: Secretary. For those interested the ASC has a Lifetime mem-bership that is also available. For any information please contact me at [email protected] or 207-551-3144.

The installment plan is the only method known to get people to do things on time.

The original group of seven boys soon became 45, and the programs he laid out became overwhelming, and a task force of several men took over the chore. He served as an emergency medical technician with Ma-chias Ambulance Service; his most vivid experience coming when he and his part-ner were driving an expectant mother to Ellsworth. Reaching the outskirts of Ma-chias, he realized that he and his assistant

were facing an imminent birth. He made an emergency stop on the roadside in Jonesboro and assisted in a potentially dangerous delivery. Norman and his wife, Nancy, owned Down East Inn on Center Street and ran off-campus housing for University of Maine at Machias, students. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a charter member of Machias Lions Club, and served on the board of Downeast Health Services. He served as Democratic state committee representative for Wash-ington County, and was a delegate to state conventions. An accomplished actor and singer, he performed in more than 40 local productions. For many years he organized and marched in parades as a perfectly made-up and costumed red-haired, red-nosed clown. He was chair of Machias Blueberry Festival for many years, and performed in all the festival musicals. At the time of his death, he was serving on the board of directors of Eastern Agency on Aging, the board of Downeast Re-source, Conservation and Development District, was a selectman in the town of Machias, as well as treasurer of Downriv-er Theater Co. He was a strong tenor in the UMM chorale and also the choir at Centre Street Congregational Church, where he served as deacon, trustee and moderator. He was the senior member of UMM’s Ukulele Band. In his last performance in October of this year, he wowed the audi-ence at the Performing Arts Center at UMM with his famous rendition of “Roll

JUDSON M. “BUD” GRANT JR.

No. 4641 Noble Judson M. “Bud” Grant Jr. of Bangor was born May 31, 1927 and died on Dec. 18, 2010. He was one of Bangor’s foremost and most successful commercial developers and businessmen He served his country and his community throughout his adult life. He served with the U.S. Army in France, Germany and Belgium, from 1945 to 1947, and then joined his father in the family business, Grant Trailer Sales. In addition to selling mobile homes, or “trailers” as they were called in the 1940s and 1950s, the Grants also held the franchise for Willys Jeeps, and Kaiser and Fraser automobiles. A used furniture store, “Judson M. Grant Furni-ture,” was also part of the family business, located in a quonset hut on Hammond Street. It was during one of his father’s winter vacations in Florida that Bud de-cided to sell new furniture rather than used, and to change the store’s name to Fairmount Furniture, a decision that his father knew nothing about until he re-turned from Florida! Bud enjoyed telling the story of his father’s reaction when he returned home to find the changes, which Bud had made. In 1959 Bud undertook the first business venture of his own with the construction of Fairmount Terrace Motel, Hammond Street, Bangor. Fairmount Terrace was the first of many business enterprises that he would undertake in his long career. Queen City Mobile Home Park, Stillwater Avenue was opened in the early 1960s, and remained open until the late 1990s. At the time of its closing there were more than 200 mobile homes in the park. In 1964 He opened Maine’s largest furniture store at 614 Broadway, giving it the name Broadway Furniture. Grant Trailer Sales was also moved to the Broadway location and continued to grow during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Bud sold the building at 614 Broadway in the 1990s and down-sized to a smaller store, named Broadway Wholesale Furniture in the Judson Heights Plaza, one of two small shopping malls he developed, the other being Wilson Square, Brewer. Never content to rest on his ac-complishments, he began the construction of Birch Hill Estates Mobile Home Park in the 1980s, with beautiful roads, immacu-

late landscaping and all the services of a small city. He also developed 160 house lots at Judson Heights, which added to the impact his investments made on housing in the city of Bangor. The building was named Kev-Lan, for his two grandsons, Kevin and Landon. He never did anything in a small way. Kev-Lan was where Bud spent his last active years in business and it became a popular gathering place for people from all walks of life. “Come out to Kev-Lan and I’ll give you a good feed” was Bud’s standing invitation to friends and business associates. When he was no longer physically able to get around on his own, Bud would “hold court” at his own special table at Kev-Lan, a table which had to be expanded many times to accom-modate the number of friends and busi-ness associates who would show up for lunch with Bud on a regular basis. He purchased the former Murphy’s Steak House, Wilson Street, Brewer, and remod-eled it as a beautiful upscale restaurant named “The Cottage,” which was known far and wide for the quality of its menu and service. The Banquet Room was the largest of any restaurant in the Bangor area and hosted countless functions during his ownership, including Bette’s 60th birthday celebration. He was one of the most active members of the YMCA’s Triangle Club and every

year he would sell more tickets to the club’s annual baked bean supper than any other member. If you did business with Bud, you just couldn’t say “no” to buying a hundred dollars worth of tickets to this event - and Bud would usually buy up all the unsold tickets as well. For a number of years, Bud found his relaxation at Phillips Lake, Dedham, where the family cottage was always full of friends and neighbors, usually feasting on steaks, corn on the cob or lobsters prepared by his wife and life-long partner, Bette. He insisted on feeding anyone who dropped in, including such famous personalities as golfer, Arnold Palmer. Bud could also frequently be seen roaring down the lake at high speed in his “cigarette” boat, or standing waist deep in the water working on his wharf. The sum-mer years at Phillips Lake were golden times for Bud and his family. Many chari-table organizations and institutions in Bangor received generous financial dona-tions from Bud, but always with the stipu-lation that there be no publicity. “I give because I want to,” Bud would say, “not for any publicity.” It was difficult for Bud to say “no” to any request for money, whether from an organization or an indi-vidual in need. His quiet generosity to in-dividuals throughout the years is impossi-ble to measure. Among his contributions were scholarship funds for Husson Col-

lege and the University of Maine, each which contained the provision that the scholarships would be awarded only to Maine students. When Husson College became Husson University, He was hon-ored as the recipient of its first honorary degree. He served on the board of directors of James A. Taylor Osteopathic Hospital and a corporate board member of Eastern Maine Medical Center. In recognition of his pioneering in the mobile home busi-ness and the quality of his product lines and service, he was honored by Maine Mobile Home Dealers Association as “Dealer of the Year.” As all business peo-ple do, Bud had his share of setbacks, but he could never be discouraged or de-pressed by them. His constant view of business was “No matter how bad any-thing seems, something good always comes out of it.” It is a well-known fact that he never went more than 20 minutes without having a good laugh about some-thing, especially if the laugh was on him. He enjoyed every minute of his life and his enthusiasm was infectious to everyone who knew him His Masonic affiliations included mem-bership in St. Andrews’s Lodge No. 83 AF & AM and the Scottish Rite Bodies. His enrollment in Anah Shriners was re-corded as June 19, 1954.
