PRESENT APPOINTMENTS

Adjunct Professor, Department of Radiology, University of California at San Diego, San Diego CADirects the radiochemistry effort at the new PET program involved in incorporating PET literature compounds and compounds developed at UCSD to support clinical protocols in studies of normal and diseased human biochemistry using positron emission tomography.

Leader, PET Radiochemistry Group Vice Chair, Scientific Steering CommitteePET & Radiochemistry Scientific Evaluation Committee

Chair: Scientific Advisory Board, Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge MAo Serve as Chief Scientific Advisor to the client’s President and scientific staff on all

scientific aspects of the client’s portfolio and strategic plan. Collaborates with the Chief Scientific Officer to set the strategic plan for future areas of research and implements that plan through the federal grant applications.

Consultant for ComputerCraft Corporation, Arlington VAo Senior Investigator in the NIH Roadmap project, which is establishing libraries of

chemical molecules that provides imaging probes for molecular and cellular events. Consult on the scientific content of summaries of up to 2000 molecular probes. Coordinate with the curators the general scientific approach including format, relevant references, areas of interest, and regulatory status of molecular probes for in vivo imaging as directed by the NCI in their Molecular Imaging and Contrast Agents Database (MICAD).

PREVIOUS APPOINTMENTS:

March, 1991 to May 2004.Chief, PET Department, Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health

Directed a multi-Institute research program employing short-lived radiolabeled compounds in studies of normal and diseased human physiology using positron emission tomography (PET) and computer systems to measure and display the tissue distribution or metabolism of these agents. Pursued the synthesis of subtype specific ligands through chiral synthesis and the application of both pharmacologic and molecular biology subtype assays for the development of these radiotracers. With these developed appropriate radiopharmaceuticals and pharmacokinetic analysis methods that lead to the development of "one picture" analysis of key biochemical markers. Also pursued the use of PET radionuclides (e.g. I-124, Ga-66 and F-18) for therapy using quantitative imaging and dosimetry as a guide to therapy.

NOVEMBER 1987 TO MARCH, 1991Vice President, Diagnostics R&D, The Squibb Institute for Medical Research

NOVEMBER 1983 TO MARCH 1985Chief, Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry Section, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD

This position consisted of directing programs in three areas: Radiopharmacy, Cyclotron Operation and Applied Radiochemistry. Specifically, I:

Directed the Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry Section of the Department of Nuclear Medicine. Set specific program goals, allocated resources among the three groups in the Section and monitored their progress toward meeting assigned goals. Planned and conducted research on the synthesis of new radioactive pharmaceuticals. Documented research findings, methodologies and recommendations in reports, papers and articles for publication in scientific journals. Directed the work of recognized experts in the areas of radiopharmacy and radiochemistry.

Maintained an awareness of policy, goals and priorities of the Department and of the Institutes and NIH as a whole as they impinged on the operation of the Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry Section.

Functioned as the major departmental expert on questions related to nuclear radiochemistry. Maintained a continuing awareness of technical advances in instrumentation and analytical techniques which may advance progress of Department programs and implement those which are appropriate.
