• Installing a new water main that runs parallel to an existing water main

• Installing new underground valve chambers

• Connecting the new water main to the existing water distribution system

Minimizing Construction ImpactsTo minimize the impacts of this essential water main’s construction activities, Metro Vancouver contractors and crews must:

Use newer, low-emission vehicles and generators

Water or sweep the road to control dust

Monitor the discharge of groundwater from trench excavation

Keeping Traffic Moving Safely and EfficientlyMetro Vancouver is committed to minimizing the impacts to traffic and access during construction of this essential water infrastructure project.

Whenever possible, regular traffic patterns and parking will be restored at the end of each day. Detour routes and ongoing schedule and information updates will be communicated through:

• On-site signage

• Traffic control personnel

• Public notifications

• The Metro Vancouver website

Bike: The bike lane along 148 Street may be closed in sections of the water main route during active construction. In most areas, bikes will be accommodated on the street.

Pedestrian: Sidewalk access will generally be maintained during construction. Crosswalks, and occasionally one side of the sidewalk, may be closed intermittently during construction.

Bus: Bus stops along the construction route affected by road closures will be temporarily moved. Closer to construction, Coast Mountain Bus Company will provide locations of temporary bus stops and any needed route detours. Please see www.translink.ca/Schedules-and-Maps/Alerts for updates.

Motor Vehicle: As construction progresses, sections of 148 Street will be intermittently closed to all traffic. Pedestrian access to parking in the surrounding area will be maintained.

Driveway Access: There may be instances where access to a particular driveway or road is temporarily restricted. Advance notification will be provided to affected residents and businesses should a temporary access restriction occur.

Residents with mobility issues should speak to a Metro Vancouver team member to ensure any home or community access is not disrupted.
