    Annotated Drawings Y1/2

The Year 1/2 students were asked to remember the sounds that they could hear at night after they went to bed. During our science les-son we made a very long list of sounds they could hear and what made them. From this list they were asked to make an annotate drawing (a labelled drawing) of themselves and the noises they could hear.

  • The Brave Angry Tiny Elf Bowen Once upon a time lived a tiny brave elf. His name was Alex. He lived in a big house and there was one big boy that knew him. His name was Mathew. Mathew was quiet and funny and very fast. They worked as a team but Alex was always mad because he hated his name. Alex was walking, then he took a step and he stepped into a huge muddy puddle and he went to another world. It was very dark and then a man came along with a bright torch. Alex hid near a bush. Back in the other world Mathew was looking for Alex. He went outside and stepped in the puddle and said ‘WOW!’ Mathew was looking for Alex but now they were both lost. THE END The Friendly Rooster Ayscia Once there was a friendly rooster. He had bought a new hat. The other day he was walking by the river and getting ready to go for a swim in it. He forgot about his hat. So he swam in the river with his hat on and it floated away So he got a new hat that looked just like the old one. He got it dirty by accident. So he put it in the washing machine and added some new powder into the machine. He waited and waited until it was done. It was a magical hat and they became best friends forever and ever.

My term 2 holidays Mackenzie I had a good holiday. I went to lots of places. On the holidays I saw lots of people. I had a sleep over with my friend. It was without my brother. I had my breakfast there. It was super fun. My friend came over to my house. We played a lot and they had dinner at my house. It was chicken and sausages and vegetables. I went to my soccer class. We played against another team. I won. I played on the other team. It was super fun. I love holidays because I don’t have to do any work. My term 2 holidays Maya On the first week of the holidays I played on my ipod. The game was called Blockheads. It is my favourite game. The next week I went and got three movies. The first was “The Fault in our Stars.” The second was “Interstella.” The third was “The Nut Job.” My favourite was “The Fault in our Stars.” I also played on my ipod a bit more, then I watched “Jurassic World.” I had lots of fun on the holidays because I love watching movies and playing on my ipod. My term 2 holidays Yahya On the first day of the holidays I went to a restaurant. I went with my sister, mum and dad. I had chicken and chips. Then my baby brother and I played on the playground. We played on the slide, then we played with toys. We bought a cake then we ate it. The cake had strawberries on it then we went home and I ate cereal and went to sleep. My term 2 holidays Jacob On the first day of my holidays I had to go to my taekwondo class for grading day. I was upgraded to yellow belt. My mum and dad watched me. The taekwondo instructor showed everyone some skills. The instructor broke some wood. The next day I went with my friend and my cousin to the snow. It took 2 hours to get there. My mum showed my sister how to make a snowman. We ate food at the café. Then we played some more in the snow. At last we went home. Another day I went to church, and I had a birthday party in the holidays.

  • MY BEST THREE HOLIDAY DAYS! On my holidays I had three special days. On my first day I went to the movies and watched Inside Out with Haifa at Hoyts cinema at Northland. My dad dropped Haifa and I off at Northland. We went to get our tickets. Then we went to Sugar Station to get some pop-corn and drinks. After the movie was finished, I had to give it a nine out of ten. My next special day was when I went to my friend Benji’s house to hang out. First we played with Lego and had a Lego war. To play Lego war you have to pick vehicles to attack each other with and you can make a base. At the end Benji won because he used his helicopter and destroyed my super car. Later on we played Lego Batman on his Xbox 360. On the third day my mum came back home from Nauru. Before my mum arrived home Haifa and I cleaned the whole house. Haifa told me that if I cleaned the house that she would give me Xbox live. So I cleaned the whole entire house, but Haifa helped me too. When I finished cleaning Haifa bought me Xbox live like she said she would. When my mum came home she gave Haifa and I presents. My mum got me a remote controlled Lamborghini Mur-cielago LP460-4 SuperVeloce. Those were my three special days on my holidays. By Danny H

THREE FUN DAYS IN MY HOLIDAYS

On my best holiday I went to my cousin’s house and I played the Wii U with my cousins. Then I went home and I ate dinner. The next day I went to a restaurant. I went with my grandmother and my Auntie. We ate lobster, clams and fish it was delicious. After that I went home with a full tummy. The third day I went to fix my dad’s car. The window was broken and the heater was noisy. So we went to a me-chanic to fix the car. When it was fixed we went home. By Kim Hao

    THE AWESOME HOLIDAY

I have three days in my holidays. The first day I went to the Cinema and watched Jurastic World with my family and cousins. The movie was 3D so we all wore 3D glasses. The movie started as the humans collected DNA in the fossils. And the humans and scien-tists create a dinosaur called Indominus Rex. They added all carnivores DNA including the small hunters. My little cousin was too scared to watch the movie so she closed her eyes. I ate the popcorn with my family. The Indominus Rex is white and bigger than a Tyrannosaurs Rex and stronger and smarter. The second day was one of the best days of my life. I went on a plane to Shanghai and then to Beijing in China. It was hot on the plane and took eleven hours to fly from Melbourne to Shanghai and one hour to Beijing. The third day in Beijing I played on my Apple iPad. I played Temple Run, Subway Surfer and Minecraft. I watched

the Minions on my iPad and in the movie Kevin was weird and funny. By Richard

THE BEST THREE DAYS IN THE HOLIDAYS

I am going to tell you about three good things that happened in the holidays.

The first thing that happened was my mum’s birthday. My sister Iba and I decided to get our mum a cake. Iba chose the colour of the cake. It was red.

The second thing happened was my sister wanted to go to the park so I had to go with her. When we reached the park I went on the monkey bars. My sister saw me on the monkey bars and she wanted to go on it so I helped her

    on. She looked cute.

Then we went home. At home our mum was waiting for us. When we reached home our mum saw the cake. We put it on the table and said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” By Inaya

  • Children learn from birth

    Children learn from birth

Babies learn that they can make things happen (banging on

a saucepan makes a noise, smiling at you makes you smile

back). They try to solve problems (how can I get this slippery

mango into my mouth) and actively explore their world

    (what’s around this corner?).

When you encourage and support your child to be a curious

and active learner, your child experiences learning as fun

and rewarding. They learn to love learning! And that’s the

key to becoming a confident and involved learner.

Confident and involved learners enjoy exploring and experi-

menting. They meet challenges and take risks. They learn

that it’s okay to fail and that they can get help when they

need it. As they get older they realise that working with oth-

ers sometimes gets better results than doing things alone!

A confident and involved learner persists. The child who

can’t do a somersault at first, but tries again and again until

they succeed has learned the importance of not giving up.

They are more likely to face their next challenge with confi-

dence. And if they can’t do a somersault, they learn that it’s

okay to not be able to do it. They can always try again later.

Confident and involved learners continue to ask questions

and explore their world: Why is the rain wet? Why is Julio

crying? Can a frog swim and jump? And they learn where to

go to find answers. These basic questions can foster curiosi-

ties’ that form early maths and science concepts.

How can I support my child to be an active and

    involved learner?

You are your child’s first and most important teacher. Your

child learns first through relationships with you and others in

the family. The opportunities and experiences that you give

    your child are therefore critical.

Make sure your baby has the chance to move around, touch things, taste things, pull things apart and talk to them/converse about things in a way where you both listen to

each other, ask a question and pause for a response. Give your child many and varied opportunities for play – time

for your child to play alone, with friends and with you. Give

your child periods of uninterrupted play that allow them to

create, build, discover and imagine. Sensory play–i.e. touch-

ing and feeling lots of different surfaces and materials, is

    especially important.

Older children will begin to take initiative as learners by ask-

ing questions when needed and attempting small projects

and as they grow they will experiment with ways of express-

ing and communicating ideas and feelings to particular audi-

    ences or for particular purposes.

The most important learning for young children happens

through everyday experiences. It doesn’t require specialised

classes or expensive toys, water and sand can offer hours of

opportunities to learn and play for children.

If you set out to teach a new skill like drinking from a cup or

learning to use scissors, repeat the experience so that your

child has the chance to practice.

Encourage and support your child to be curious and to ask

questions. Encourage them to use their imagination and to

solve problems. Together, use books and the internet to help

    them find answers.

With older children, encourage them to extend their thinking:

Why do you think that happened? How can we fix that? Pre-

dict what would happen if . . .?

Encourage older children to use informal measurement units

like hand-spans and pencil lengths to make, describe and

compare measurements of length, area etc.

Encourage and support your child’s interests. Children learn

at different rates, in different ways and at different times.

    Sick Students

Deciding when to keep a sick child at home from school is not always easy. It’s important for children to attend school but when a child is genuinely sick they need to stay home and be cared for by an adult in order to get well and to prevent spreading illness to others. The school does not have the facilities or the staff to care for students that are unwell. Please ensure your emergency details are kept up to date and provide the school with an alternative contact if you cannot be reached. We thank you for your cooperation and hope all families display our school value of RESPECT in this matter.

Save the date and be prepared!

On Friday 28th of August 2015 we will be celebrating Book Week. Our celebration will include a whole school parade at 9.15am, where all students will parade their costumes. Students are required to dress as their favourite book character. There will be prizes for the BEST COSTUME.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability ‘Collection Notice’

All schools in Australia, including Independent and Catholic schools, will participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability this year. The Data Collection is an annual count of the number of students with disability receiving educational adjustments to support their participation in education on the same basis as students without disabil-ity. All education agencies are now required under the Australian Education Regulation 2013 to provide information on a student’s level of education, disability and level of adjustment to the Australian Gov-ernment Department of Education and Training.* Data will continue to be de-identified prior to its transfer to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. No student’s identity will be provided to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. The collection of this information from states and territories will inform future policy and program planning in relation to students with disability. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Peter Marco on 9460 1668 or the Victori-an Department of Education and Training Data Collection Hotline on (03) 9651 3621. For questions after 7 August 2015, please call the Australian Government Department of Education and Training on 1300 566 046.
