LOCATION
The district of Wandsbek The district of Wandsbek is a well-established and popular business location. The mixture of
diverse economic competence and a high quality of life makes Wandsbek an attractive location
that enables people to live and work in an urban environment. With around 430,000
inhabitants, it is also the most populous district (around 23% of the total population) in the city
of Hamburg. With around 21.9% of the workforce, the district has the highest number of
employees within the city of Hamburg. The business locations are very heterogeneous and
are home to corporate headquarters as well as manufacturing companies, some with a high
R&D share plus a diversified mix of innovative commercial parks and small craft enterprises.
Among the internationally renowned companies located in the district are the automotive
replacement parts manufacturer Meyle AG, the intralogistics manufacturer Jungheinrich AG,
the drugstore chain IWAN BUDNIKOWSKY GmbH & Co. KG, the mail order company Otto
GmbH & Co KG, Olympus Deutschland as a manufacturer of optical and digital precision
technology or Eppendorf AG as a life science company. Due to the high density in the district,
however, interesting mixtures in the form of industrial yards and co-working spaces have
already formed on a small scale, which have a high innovative power for the district and
beyond. The mixture of living and working, which in many places makes the district a prototype
for the development of modern mixed-use areas in the existing population, is also reflected in
the business statistics of the Chamber of Crafts. In 2016, around 24.3% of all Hamburg craft
businesses were located in the district.
Characterisation of the location The commercial area Friedrich-Ebert-Damm/Am Stadtrand is located in the south of the
Wandsbek district, on the eastern edge of the district of the same name, about 2.5 km from
the district centre. It extends between Angerburger Straße, Am Stadtrand, Tilsiter Straße and
Helbingstraße north and south of the Friedrich-Ebert-Damm. Along the Friedrich-Ebert-
Damms a centre for the automobile trade has developed, which comprises approx. one third
of the entire area. In addition, a large number of innovative industrial and craft enterprises
have settled here. Around the Wilma-Witte-Stieg and on Tilsiter Straße, land with a size of up
to 3,500 m² is still available. The area is directly connected to Friedrich-Ebert-Damm via the
street Am Stadtrand. Ring 2 is about 1.5 km away, the motorway A24 (Horner Kreisel) about
5 km. away. Within a radius of 500 m there are several bus stops, the nearest underground
station (Trabrennbahn, line U1) is about 1 km away. From there it is possible to reach Hamburg
Central Station without changing trains.
Supraregionally active companies at the location Among other things, Jungheinrich AG's corporate headquarters are located on site and
Gigabyte established its European headquarters here in 2017. In addition, workshops and
manufacturing companies from the mechanical and electrical engineering sectors are primarily
active here.
