Description
The Wilo SB® range comprisesjust four bronze bodied circulatorsproviding the installer with anideal solution to the majority ofsecondary hot water serviceapplications. These circulators areeasy to fit and energy efficient inoperation. All SB models can befitted with the optional timercontrol** that allows the on/offfunction to be programmed sothat the circulator operates onlywhen required. All SB models arefitted with non-overloadingmotors and thus require noexternal motor protection.** Note: When fitting timer, the unitoperates at maximum speed only.
Application
The SB range is suitable for bothnew or replacement work and canbe used with chilled water downto -10°C as standard due to thecondensation proof design.

Wilo Bronze Circulators help to kill off LegionellaeThe circulator acts as an anti-stratification device and is particularly suitable forhospitals, residential homes for the elderly and sheltered housingwhich use highvolumesofwater. Itwouldnormally be installedaspart of a secondaryhotwatersystem which involves a separate ring main operating independently from theprimary central heating circuit. The main purpose of a secondary system is toensure that there is always a constant supply of hot water available instantly atthe various draw-off points with no cold “dead legs” in the circuit. However, anadditional application for the “SB” series is that the circulator -which is availablewith an integrated timer clock - is fitted to a loop of pipework on the side of theactual hot water storage calorifier. Hot water will generally kill off legionellaebacteria but problems arise, particularly for high risk categories such as theyoung, sick andelderly especiallywhen the circuit is not in constant use. This canlead to stratification in the storage tank - with hot water at the top and a coldlayer at the bottom. Bacteria breed andmultiply in the cold section and are thendrawn off when the system again comes into use. This is eliminated by settingthe time clock on the circulator to induce circulation automatically at times oflow demand - usually during the night - to maintain the temperature of thewaterataneven level of60°Catwhich temperature thebacteriawill bekilledoff.

Construction
The SB circulators are of theglandless design with the rotatingparts running in the liquid beingcirculated. This principle can beseen in this sectional illustration.
The unique hollow ceramic shaftand sintered bronze filter serveto maximise the running hoursensuring long and trouble freeservice. The ceramic shaftminimises the build up of calciumbased salts, whilst the sinteredbronze filter serves to removeany harmful debris from thewater before it is circulatedaround the rotor and bearings.

All SB models have WRc approval.These circulators aremanufacturedin what is probably the mostadvanced factory in Europe. Thefactory operates a quality assurancesystem which is approved toBS EN ISO 9001 (formerly BS5750Part 1). Wilo (U.K.) Ltd also operatea quality assurance system whichis approved to BS EN ISO 9002(formerly BS5750 Part 2). Secondary hot water pump
Description
Hot water should be availablefrom the tap instantly and at anytime. Since the water outlet isoften a long way from the hotwater tank, it can take a longwhile before all the cold water inthe pipes has been let out so thatthe hot water can emerge. Thenew Wilo-Star-Z 15 TT drinkingwater circulation pump ensuresthat you always have instant hotwater. When incorporated intothe drinking water heating system,the Wilo-Star-Z 15 TT alsoprovides extra protection againstLegionnaire's disease and theLegionella bacteria.

Diseases and epidemics causedby water-borne bacteria wereknown already in the days of theRoman empire. These bacteriamultiply especially if the waterstagnates at a temperaturebetween about 25 and 50°C.Particularly dangerous to humanbeings is the Legionella bacterium,which causes Legionnaire'sdisease discovered in 1976 in theUS. Thriving in warm, stagnantwater at temperatures between25°C and 50°C, this pathogenspreads like wildfire under theseconditions. While remainingharmless in drinking water,
Legionellae become dangerouswhen inhaled with water spray.An excellent means of counter-acting this hazard is the Wilo-Star-Z 15 TT, the only drinkingwater circulation pump supportingautomatic, thermal disinfectionof warm-water reservoirs andthus providing effective protectionagainst Legionellae.

Extra protection against LegionellaeThermal disinfection automatically ensures an early eradication of anyLegionellae present in drinking water: The water is heated to roughly70°C over a pre-defined period at night. Because the circulation pumpmight be inactive during this period, a routine is needed to detect this
heating process and activate the pump irrespective of the timer settingin order to rinse the pipeline with hot water too. The Wilo-Star-Z 15 TTproves extremely beneficial here, guaranteeing hygienically clean waterat all times.

The plant can be installedfree-standing or wall-mountedwith two fastening holes.
The position of the motor unit onthe tank is reversible, allowing avariable inlet and outlet.
The Wilo-DrainLift Con worksparticularly quietly, thus makingit exceptionally well suited forsystems in single-family andtwo-family homes.
Application
Because of modern heating andair-conditioning technology,condensate formsmore frequentlyin oil and gas-fired condensingboilers, and air-conditioning andrefrigeration systems, belowthe backflow level. Now, thiscondensate can be removed withno problem.
It must be used if disposal is notpossible via natural gravity flow,or if the installation location isbelow the backflow level.
Because of the materials usedin the manufacture of the plant,condensate with a pH value ofdown to 2.4 can be conveyedwithout any problems. Foroil-fired boilers or gas-firedboilers with an output > 200 kW,the lifting unit must be installeddownline of a neutralisationsystem.
