“Wilt Thou Be Made Whole”
John 5:2-3: “Now there is at Jerusalem by
the sheep market a pool, which is called in
the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five
porches. In these lay a great multitude of
impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered,
waiting for the moving of the water.”
Impotent folk... Impotent: 1.lacking power
or ability; 2.lacking force of effectiveness
(Webster’s Dictionary). Without Christ in
your life in a real way, you're impotent.
When anything comes up in your life that
you can't deal with through your natural
means, you realize you are impotent.
You're powerless. You have no other re-
source outside of yourself or your family
and friends... You're limited, but Jesus is
omnipotent and as Paul wrote, “I can do
all things through Christ which strength-
eneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
Blind, halt, withered... sin leaves you in a
messed up condition. Sin ruins lives and
marriages and destroys homes, communi-
ties, towns, cities, states, and countries. In
fact and in truth, the entire world is in
peril because of sin.
Sin of itself is destructive. That's why God
forbids it. He knows the effect it will have
on you, on your life, on your relationship
with your spouse, your children, your sib-
lings, your friends, your co-workers, and
whoever you come in contact with... sin is
a destructive force..
It will cause you to be blind to the good-
ness of God, to the needs of others, to your
own circumstances; it will cause you to be
halt, in other words lame, unable to do
what is needed to change your own life,
not able to follow where Jesus is leading
you; it will cause you to be withered, you
won’t be able to withstand the trials and
stresses of life, you’ll come up short under
the intensity of difficult situations.
John 5:4-6 “For an angel went down at a
certain season into the pool, and troubled
the water: whosoever then first after the
troubling of the water stepped in was
made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
And a certain man was there, which had
an infirmity thirty and eight years. When
Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had
been now a long time in that case, he saith
unto him, ‘Wilt thou be made whole?’”
“Wilt thou be made whole?” Are you tired
of your condition? Are you tired of that life
of sin that's making you miserable? Are
you tired of hurting? Are you ready to do

what it takes to get your life straightened
out in a real way?
John 5:6-7 “When Jesus saw him lie, and
knew that he had been now a long time in
that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be
made whole? The impotent man an-
swered him, Sir, I have no man, when the
water is troubled, to put me into the pool:
but while I am coming, another steppeth
down before me.”
“Another steppeth down before me.” The
impotent man began to make excuses. He
began to say why he couldn't get healed. I
got this problem, I got that situation going
on... I'm involved in this, I'm caught up
in that, I'm a part of this group or that or-
ganization. I'm just going to wait until
next time and maybe somehow I'll have a
better opportunity. Next time I get to
church, next time I get to the doctor, next
time during counseling, next time I go to
the spa, next time...
John 5:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take
up thy bed, and walk.
Get up, and walk... He didn't ask the man
to do back flips or a handstand, just to
walk, take it one step
at a time. The first step is to realize that
this is your opportunity; the first step is to
realize that this is better than being put in
the pool, this is better than 1000 counsel-
ing sessions, better than being operated
on by the world's best physician, better
than being given a wonder drug, better
than sitting in a church having someone
lie to you and tell you to just do the best
you can and God will understand, you can
be made whole! This is your chance, this
is what your soul is crying out for... this is
what you need, this is your chance to get
the help you need for your soul!
The next step is to make a move... rise...
bring your burdens to an altar of prayer
(wherever you get into the presence of
God at). Is anyone sick of sin? Is anyone
sick of living in sin, sick of doing the same
thing over and over and getting the same
results? You can get off the merry go
round of sin!
