Security informa-tion

Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the secure operation of plants, systems, machines and networks. In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept. Siemens’ products and solutions only form one element of such a concept. Customer is responsible to prevent unauthorized access to its plants, systems, machines and networks. Systems, machines and components should only be connected to the enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent necessary and with appropriate security measures (e.g. use of firewalls and network segmentation) in place. Additionally, Siemens’ guidance on appropriate security measures should be taken into account. For more information about industrial security, please visit http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure. Siemens strongly recommends to apply product updates as soon as available and to always use the latest product versions. Use of product versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber threats. To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS Feed under http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

1 Task WinCC (TIA Portal) provides MS Paint for the editing of graphics. This software is sufficient for small adjustments on the graphics. In order to be able to use external graphics editing programs with a larger range of function, the existing graphics have to be exported and saved in a separate directory. In addition, the properties and the data type, such as, "png, jpg” has to be preserved.

2 Solution

2.1 Overview

With the "Export Graphics Tool” you can export graphics from a WinCC (TIA Portal) configuration into a local directory. The graphics are saved with their original file type as well as the appropriate properties (for example, transparency).

By opening the graphics with a defined graphics program, it is possible to edit the graphics more efficiently.

Once the images have been reworked, they are reinserted in the graphic collection of the TIA Portal via drag-and-drop.

Possible error message

If you receive the error message that follows, the currently logged on "User” on the configuration PC is not assigned to the "Siemens TIA Openness” group. Check the settings you made in the "Computer Management” (see chapter 3.1 section "Assigning current user to the "Openness” group" – short link).

Figure 3-5

Security warning

The following security prompt will appear during the execution of the tool. This message serves to prevent unauthorized access to the project data.

Confirm the message accordingly.

Figure 3-6

Once all images have been downloaded from the configuration, the start screen with the user interface will appear again.

When editing the images make sure that the file name and the file type remain the same so that the existing graphics in WinCC (TIA Portal) can be replaced by the edited graphics.
