INTRODUTION TO TRAINING ESTABLISHMENT

• Wind Force (Pvt) Ltd is one of the Developing Company in Sri Lanka.

• It was established in 2010 in North Western Province(Puttalam).

• It has now a power plant in Pallai (Jaffna) and was established in 2014.

Page 4: wind force presentation

Joule and Beta (Pvt.) Limited Produces 12 MW per each. (Joule 12 MW and Beta 12 MW)

Wind Force is combined with REGEN Power Technologies.

Wind Force mainly produces its services in field such as,– Electrical Engineering– Power & Renewable Energy

TRAINING EXPERIENCE

We had our 1st Industrial Training at several sites of the company such as,

Joule & Beta (Pvt.) Limited Head Office(Pallai). Karai Nagar Erection Project. Poonakari Wind Mast Project.

Page 6: wind force presentation

This training we studied mainly about Power Production and Distribution facts related to those such as,

• Wind Turbines• Wind Mast & Erection• Escape and Rescue plan

WIND TURBINES

Page 8: wind force presentation

BLADE

The blades are used to extract the kinetic energy of wind and convert to mechanical energy. Wind turbines can be designed for 1 blade, 2 blades or 3 blades.

Page 9: wind force presentation

HUB

The hub holds the rotor blades together and transmits motion to generator rotor.

Page 10: wind force presentation

PITCH SYSTEM

• Pitch control is the system which monitors and adjusts the inclination angle of the blades and thus controls the rotation speed of the blades. Initially the blades are at an angle of 90° and it will pitch in towards 0° to start rotating.

• At higher wind speeds the blade pitch system reduces the

wind load on the blades and structure of the turbine by pitching out the blades from 0 ° to maintain the rated rpm.

Page 11: wind force presentation

TOWER

• The tower of the wind turbine carries the hub, nacelle and the generator. Generally, it is an advantage to have a high tower, since wind speeds increase farther away from the ground.

Page 12: wind force presentation

GENERATOR

The Generator consists of Rotor & Stator and it converts mechanical energy to electrical energy

Page 13: wind force presentation

NACELLE

The nacelle holds all the components of the wind turbine, including the electrical generator and the Hub.

Service personnel may enter the nacelle from the tower of the turbine.

Page 14: wind force presentation

Yawing System

The yaw system is the component responsible for the orientation of the wind turbine rotor towards the wind.

There are 3 components in it.• Yaw Bearings• Yaw Drive • Yaw brake

ADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

• Wind energy does not emit any form of Air pollution.

• Wind turbines take up less space than the average power station.

• It’s a renewable source of energy where as other energy sources like fossil fuels – Are Depleting very fast– Causes Air Pollution– Causes Global warming

• Due to their nature, wind turbines can be placed in a variety of rather inhospitable locations. In fact, they are ideal for mountainous/hilly regions where regular power plants are unsuitable.

Page 16: wind force presentation

DISADVANTAGES OF THE WIND ENERGY

• The strength of the wind is not constant and it varies from zero to storm force. This means that wind turbines do not produce the same amount of electricity all the time. There will be times when they produce no electricity at all.

• Many people feel that the countryside should be left untouched, without these large structures being built.

• Wind turbines are noisy.

Page 17: wind force presentation

WIND MAST

• A measurement tower is a free standing tower or a removed mast, which carries measuring instruments with meteorological instruments such as thermometers and wind velocity measurers.

• Measuring towers are an essential component of rocket launching sites, since one must know exact wind conditions for an execution of a rocket start.

Page 18: wind force presentation

ERECTION

• Installation of a system or machinery up to the point of being able to start running is erection.

• There are 2 methods used in this erection process.– Gin Poles– Guided poles

CONCLUSION

I’ve got a good opportunity to have my compulsory session of Industrial Training in Wind Force (Pvt.) Limited. During this valuable period I was able to take so many practical experiences in Electrical Field and also some kind of civil works. I can say I had a wonderful 3 months of time and hopefully this will help me lot in my future.
