But we don't take vacation time from being Christians and doing what is well-pleasing in the sight of our heavenly father. And just what is that? As many of you know, our son is an attorney and we have had many conversations about the law and the centrality of the law in the old covenant between God and the children of Israel. Basically, God promised that if Israel obeyed the teachings of the law, God would bless them, but if not, woe be unto the nation. On one occasion, one of the students in the law school asked the law professor about an opinion rendered by the court. His question was, "Where is the justice in that?" The response by the professor was, "If you are looking for justice, go to seminary, here we teach the law." God established His covenant with Israel based on law, but justice was very involved in the process. In Micah 6:8, it is written, "He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To seek justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God." Sermons during the month of June will continue to explore the relationships between the law, justice, mercy, grace and faith through the Apostle Paul's letter to the churches in Galatia. You have heard it before. Justice is what we want for the other guy, and mercy is what we want for ourselves. And how in the world are we to walk humbly with God? Stay tuned for the insertion of faith that leads to grace and gives us freedom in Christ to fulfill all that God has designed us to be and to do. The Apostle Paul says, "We who are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ." (Galatians 2:15). It has been said that justice is getting what we deserve, mercy is not getting what we deserve but grace is getting what we do not deserve. You have probably heard it said years ago in Sunday School that the letters in GRACE tell it all. God's Riches At Christ's Expense. "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." (II Corinthians 8:9). It is through grace that we can walk humbly with God. It is sin that separates us from God and from one another. "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (II Corinthians 5:21). Through Christ, we are set free! And what are we to do with our freedom? "You my brothers, were called to be free, not to use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, to serve one another in love." (Galatians 5:13). May this June be the beginning of a unique "summer of love" for each member of the body of Christ which is the church! Blessings! John

June marks the beginning of summer and some serious vacation time for many. But we don't take vacation time from being Christians and doing what is well-pleasing in the sight of our heavenly father. And just what is that? As many of you know, our son is an attorney and we have had many conversations about the law and the centrality of the law in the old covenant between God and the children of Israel. This past month we finally pulled off our yard sale. We fought the rain, but I think it was a success along with great fellowship. After all, that is what it is all about! Thank you to all who helped. A special thank you to Kathy Queen and Kay Stephenson — they are my church angels! Please try and bring a friend or a neighbor to our next breakfast. We will not only have a great breakfast for you to enjoy, but four of our Boy Scouts will be at the meeting to tell us the meaning of the folds of the American Flag as well as the proper way to retire the flag.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting! R. A. Howell, President

On May 15, 2016, we were pleased to welcome Bryan and Dana Christensen who brought their daughter, Callie Adalyn Christensen, to be christened by Pastor John Falk. Callie was born on October 26, 2015. Our congratulations to Bryan and Dana and welcome to our church family, Callie!

We were pleased to also welcome Callie’s grandparents as well as her great grandmother and Uncle Ryan to share in this special service. Pictured above with Dana and Callie is big sister, Zoe, and Grandmother, Jill Copeland — three generations!
