Fall is Here! That's what the weather man is saying, but the
heat won’t let us know until tomorrow evening.
Several events have taken place this past month.
September 4th several folks went to Bowling Green to Fred-
die's for lunch, and then to Krispy Kreme for dessert where
they were met (with joyous anticipation) by Virginia (Black)
Wren, Jane and Zearl’s daughter. Those who went were Paul
and Sally, Steve and Karen, Tim and Julie, Wink, Brian and
Ruth, and also Frank and Sheryl from Chapter H in Franklin.
Vickie and I were still working on our house (and finding out
that we don't like to paint). We heard everyone had a good
time. We really hated to miss this ride, and especially visiting
with Virginia.
Saturday, September 9th, was the Wings Across Tennessee
Ride to St. Jude in Memphis. Again, we had planned to go, but Vickie had to work, so we missed this great ride also. But Jeff and Pat Cato made the trip with Chapter E. Friends of Jeff and Pat, Randy and Patsy Duke also went with them and Jeff told us everyone really had a good time. After Vickie got off work that Saturday we went to Chapter Y's Shrimp Boil in Murfreesboro. We missed their gathering, but had a good time visiting with everyone. Arnold Edgell and I lost in the corn-hole game, but we had a lot of Fun. This Chapter Y event was held in support of St. Jude. Thanks for great time, Chapter Y. September 21
st Chapter A went for a dinner ride to Five Guys in
Mt. Juliet. Those there were Don and Emma, Nancy, Brian and Ruth, and their grandson, Liam, Jeff and Pat, Tim and Julie, and Vickie and me. We all had a good time visiting and doing what we do best… EAT!
This past Saturday was the Big Truck Race at Highland Rim Speedway. Karen Hill from Chapter H has a son who races in one of these big trucks. Several folks went to cheer for him: Wink, Jeff, Tim, and his friend, Denny Follis, Vickie and Troy. Also there were some folks from Chapters N, H, and G. Every-thing was going good until we saw the worst wreck in a big truck. Mike Morgan, Karen Hill's son got hit from behind, and came up on the wall in front of the bleachers. He is OK, just real sore, but his truck is a different story. They shut down the races for the night, and said they would have to haul in a crain in to remove his truck.

Good Times for October October is going to be another fun filled month. For several years, first weekend in October has been when Chapter A has
helped out in the Jack-N-Back bicycle ride for Multiple Sclerosis. It starts at Page High School in Franklin TN. Please see Paul for more information. He has the motels set up for us. This has always been a lot fun for a great cause. All Chapters are invited to help. Saturday, October 14
th Tim and Julie
will be having a cookout at their home in Mt. Juliet. They did this last year and everyone had a good time. Tim and Julie will provide the meat, and asks everyone to bring a dish. The fun will start at noon. Chapter A's dinner rides for October will be at the Caney Fork Restaurant, 2400 Music Valley Dr. Nashville, 37214. We will meet there at 6:30 pm. Then on the 21st Chapter A will be going to Cathy's Country Cupboard in Westmoreland for lunch, and then go and visit with Chapter S. We will leave from I-65 North, Exit 97 from the K-Mart parking lot at 10AM.
October 28-29 is TN-A's Fall Color Run. We are going back to Sweetwater. Paul has the information about the hotel. At our last team meeting we discussed getting white dress shirts with GWRRA in blue down the sleeves and Chapter A on the collar. Tim will be taking orders for these at tonight's gathering. The cost is $35.65 including tax. If you want a blue shirt it is only $1.00 more. They do look very nice.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Associa-tion (NHTSA), in 2006, motorcyclists were 37 times more likely to die in a crash than someone riding in a passenger car. Whether you are a seasoned rider or a rookie, riding a mo-torcycle comes with considerable risk and responsibility, more so than driving an automobile. For riders, even small mistakes can cause horrific accidents because motorcycles have less protective cushioning and bulk to soften the im-pact of accidents. In addition to taking all the necessary precautions of driving a car, motorcyclists must be particularly vigilant while on their bikes, especially when there is heavy traffic. According to the NHTSA, here are some common mistakes riders make: Failing to use defensive driving techniques While defensive driving Is important for all drivers, riders, in particular, should be aware of their surroundings and expect the worse. Don’t assume other drivers will yield to you and always be aware of traffic patterns. Anticipate problem and road hazards so yo can slow down before reaching the problem. Lacking braking and cornering skills While motorcycles are lighter and more agile than passen-ger cars, there is also a learning curve associated with op-erating a motorcycle. Be especially alert when you are near intersections because approximately 50 percent of motorcy-cle vehicle collisions occur there.
Selecting a motorcycle that’s not a good fit While a large motorcycle with immense power may be ap-pealing, you should buy a motorcycle that you can handle safely. Large motorcycles are heavy and you must be strong enough to push it or pick it up when you fall over. You should also consider the functionality of your bike. Forgetting about the limitation of a motorcycle Always remember to familiarize yourself with the owner’s manual and attend a motorcycle training course. A profes-sional class can provide you with the knowledge and skills you may not learn when your friend teaches you how to ride. Being inconsiderate Avoid weaving in and out of stalled traffic and riding on shoulder. Being inconsid-erate can aggravate oth-er drivers and cause them to react negatively, putting both of you at risk. Ride safe,
Steve

Left on Sunday,
August 27th, Had
a good day, no
rain in sight. Met
one of the vend-
ers at a rest stop walking his dog.
Also met six couples from Colum-
bus Ohio heading to Wing Ding.
They stopped for lunch. Had
enough food to feed an army. Invit-
ed us to lunch, we had stopped at a
KFC, wasn’t hungry. We sat and
talked for a while and then off down
the highway. Spent the night at
Comfort Suites in Forrest City Ar-
kansas.
Monday, Au-
gust 28th, Had
breakfast at the
hotel and took
off down the
road before the
rain. It sprin-
kled a little
near Little
Rock Arkan-
sas. Didn’t
even stop to put on rain suits. Sun
came out for the rest of the day.
Stopped at the Texas Welcome
Center. They had
all kinds of signs
and information
about GWRRA’s
Wing Ding in
Grapevine Texas.
Stopped for the
night a Comfort
Suites in Texarkana
Texas. Had a good dinner at a
Mexican Restaurant close by.
Tuesday, August 29th, After break-
fast at the hotel headed down the
road to
Grapevine
Texas. On-
ly about 200
miles to go.
Went to the
Gaylord Hotel parking garage. This
hotel is huge. Long wall from the
parking garage to the hotel lobby.
Got checked in, was happy our
room was on the first floor, and did-
n’t have to wait in the lines to get
the elevators to the other floors.
After getting our luggage to the
room, did the long walk to the con-
vention center to pick up our pack-
et. Sure, was glad I remembered to
bring my cane.
Took the shuttle to down town
Grapevine for the Welcome Party.
Enjoyed the live music and
the buffet style lunch in-
cluding ice cream. En-
joyed seeing people we
knew and meeting some of
the first timers to Wing
Ding.
Wednesday, August 30th,
Had a great breakfast at
the Riverwalk Restaurant
in the Hotel.
Went to
Opening Cer-
emonies on
the 3rd floor
of the Con-
vention Cen-
ter. They flew
all the USA flags, Military Flags,
and Other Participating Country’s
Flags. Was asked by District Staff
if we could work security. Worked
for an hour at the doors where
guests came into get their packets
or day passes. We then went shop-
ping at the Trade Show. Ended the
day by having a good BBQ dinner
at the Texan Roadhouse restaurant
in the hotel.
Thursday, August 31st, Had break-
fast at the Riverwalk Restaurant.
Then headed for the Trade Show at
the Convention Center. I went
shopping while Don went to look at
the Trikes. He found out the only
trike test drive was California Side
Car and had to go three to four
miles from the hotel to ride them.
The hotel only let Honda do test
drives of motorcycles at the hotel.
Too bad they didn’t allow other test
drives. Later that day went to the
GWRRA ‘s 40th Anniversary Disco
Ball Party. Had good food and fun.
Everyone got a 40th anniversary
blue glass as a gift.
Friday, September 1st, Enjoyed
breakfast at the Riverwalk Restau-
rant. Didn’t move the bike since we
got there. Then went to the con
Emma and Don Hurley

vention center. I got to sing at the
Sing a 70’s song. Don didn’t want
to sing because they wouldn’t let
you know what song you were sing-
ing until you were on stage. En-
joyed another day of shopping and
visiting with other Winger’s. Went to
dinner at the Texan Roadhouse for
some more BBQ.
Saturday, September 2nd, Breakfast
at the Riverwalk Restaurant.
Checked Door Prize booth. Don
won a t-shirt. Went back to the
trade show to take a second look at
all the trikes on display again. Too
bad we couldn’t test drive any of
them. I did some last-minute shop-
ping. Then watch Don play Jenga.
He won the second game. Got a t-
shirt. Went back to the room and
packed up everything we didn’t
need and took it to the bike. Got
ready for the Closing Ceremony.
Don was disappointed he didn’t win
the bike. I would of like to win a
50/50 – but didn’t.
Sunday, September 3rd, Finished
packing the bike and after checking
out of the hotel rode for a couple of
hours before stopping for breakfast.
The day was sunny except for a
sprinkle near Little Rock Arkansas.
Decided to stop at the Comfort
Suites in Forrest City Arkansas for
the night.
Got home about 4pm on Monday,
September 4th.Had a good time at
Wing Ding. Looking forward to
Wing Ding 2018 in Knoxville, Ten-

Maintenance on Any Trike with Independent
Suspension with CV Joints by Don Hurley
If your planning to take a long trip on your trike and have independent suspension. And you’ve done or had all
the maintenance done on your trike. Do one more thing. Be sure all the rubber CV boots on the rear wheels
and drive shaft have been sprayed with silicone. You can do it yourself. With the engine not running put the
gear shift in neutral, and using a floor jack lift one rear wheel off the ground, make sure you can rotate the lifted
wheel by hand. Get down so you can see the cv boot, wipe off any dirt on the cv boot, spray the boot with sili-
cone spray, rotate the wheel and spray all sides of the cv boot.
If maintenance is not done on
the CV boots, these boots can
dry out and even tear apart
which can cause the cv joints
to dry out and explode. The
silicone spray keeps the boots
soft and flexible.
I know because the cv joint
blew apart on our trike on our
trip to Alaska. Fortunately, we
had a new cv joint axle assem-
bly at home.

Why Change the GWRRA Structure? As we look forward to our next 40 years we needed to analyze our Association and it’s needs. In doing so we’ve decided that a change is needed for us to meet our Membership’s expectations, to streamline our communications and provide leader-ship appropriate to our Membership. In making these changes we focus on fun, so-cial, riding, having less rules and providing united communications with our Members. The change needs to start from Home Office so Home Office is going to lead the way and we are getting this started right now. So I ask you now to follow my favorite say-ing from Gary Keller, “stay into curiosity and out of judgement”. Thanks! Our research has shown us that Regions are a hub for information but the words like “running a business” have crept into the responsibilities of a Region. We know that each Region has been doing it’s very best for our Members and we appreciate their dedication. However, in keeping with this new direction that provides a streamlined approach of communication and leadership to our Membership, we have made a very difficult business decision. This is absolutely not personal as we value those Officers who take pride is what they do for our Members!! But with this new vision we see for our Association, we have made the tough business decision to eliminate the Region level of management on December 31, 2017. We will be laying out that path to wind down the Region and take care of the programs within each Region so no Member is left behind. The key here is that nothing changes immediately, the change will hap-pen on January 1, 2018! Our research has also shown that the Districts can be and should be the most re-sponsive to the Chapters. We are going to change their scope of responsibilities so they can be more involved with the Chapters and the Members. All District Officers should be very involved with their Chapters in the District, keeping the fun, riding and social activities front and center. We hear that Chapters are either struggling; struggling to find Officers; not doing enough fun things or not riding enough; OR we have heard that some may be fo-cused a little too much on the business and not enough on the social and fun where a Chapter should be focused. We want all Chapters to “be fine” and to get back to the having fun, socializing and riding. Our GWRRA Chapters are supposed to be a place of fun, sharing time with friends, our love of motorcycling and then going for a ride. Too many “rules” and “don’t do that” have crept into our Chapters whether they are real or not. This must change. The truth is, Chapters are where our Members share adventures, build friendships and create the memories that will hold them together for years to come. This is criti-cal to this Association. The changes we are making will simplify our Association and provide the atmosphere for having fun, enjoying each other and our bikes. Are we going to require the changes? In the elimination of the Regions we are. In the new responsibilities and focus of the District we will. But as we see it, if your Chapter is doing okay, we are not asking you to make any big changes. If you are struggling a bit, or you feel that you can be better than you are right now, then we want to help you get back on track and we believe that this new structure will help and of course, you just need to ask for help and we are there! We have adopted this new structure going forward for a new look to GWRRA and we look forward to our next 40 years and beyond. Thanks for your support! The First time I heard about paraprosdokians, I liked them. Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous. (Winston Churchill loved them)
1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it.
2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you ... but it's still on my list.
3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
5. We never really grow up -- we only learn how to act in public.
6. War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
7. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
9. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
10. In filling out an application, where it says, "In case of emergency, notify..." I answered "a doctor."
11. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.
12. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
13. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
14. To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.
15. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
16. You're never too old to learn something stupid.
17. I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
