We’re honored to welcome you. First we say thank you. Thanks for volunteering to participate in our Wings Over the Rockies Teacher Flight program. It’s an ambitious initiative that has the potential to touch the lives of students from schools all along Colorado’s Front Range. And we hope you feel honored to be the official representative — the Teacher Envoy — for your school. Because we’re certainly honored to welcome you into the program.

How did your flight measure up? Whether yours was an open-air excursion in our Stearman, or a tamer closed-cabin ride, we hope your personal teacher flight experience was exhilarating. And we also hope you can see — even with your feet on the ground — just how exciting and how stimulating an introduction to the world of flight could be for students like the ones you influence every day. Our premise is that students can be inspired to higher achievement through the motivational context of flight — as represented by our Museum. And as a Teacher Envoy, you can become their direct connection to wide-ranging educational opportunities that could inspire a whole new generation of aerospace leaders.

More than a plane ride. You knew, when you signed up, that the Wings Over the Rockies Teacher Flight Program would involve responsibilities that continue beyond the teacher flight itself. The moment the wheels of your aircraft touch down, you have a singular experience behind you. But the greater good will rise from activities that lie ahead — opportunities that you will provide for students to be motivated and inspired through the exhibits and programs of our Museum.

New student relationships with Wings Over the Rockies begin with your interaction, whether in group settings or one-on-one. Initial contact will include presentation of student boarding passes providing one free admission, a supply of which comes with your Teacher Envoy materials. After that first visit, the goal is long-term affiliations in which students avail themselves of Museum activities and programs on a continuing basis. You will also be equipped with a Teacher Resource Directory — updated periodically — that will provide you with current information on aviation/aerospace programs for students, curriculum and career opportunities, high school and college student internships, scholarships, and of course Museum events.

Spreading our wings. Great things are on the horizon — for our Museum, and potentially for your student contacts as well — as we pursue a bold new vision to expand our reach from Lowry to Centennial Airport. There, on a prime site at one of the nation’s most active general aviation airports, we aspire to build Exploration of Flight. As an experience-based facility, it will provide a unique exploration of all dimensions of the flight experience — both within the earth’s atmosphere and in outer space. And as a Wings Over the Rockies Teacher Envoy, you are not only part of one of the most significant outreach programs ever undertaken. You are also contributing to a program that is helping to power the Wingspan Capital Campaign for this bold new venture.

A high calling. As a teacher, you know there is no higher calling than the service of educating our youth, and inspiring them to excel in worthy endeavors. It is to this end that we conceived the Wings Over the Rockies Teacher Flight Program as part of our launch pad for learning. You and others in your chosen profession are uniquely qualified to support our mission through ongoing interaction with kids, and we are exceedingly grateful for your help. Thank you once again.
