Estremadura Wine Region

The West is one of the largest Wine Regions of Portugal

and the world: full-bodied aromatic wines and precious

value of alcohol. The South alive while new, intense and

balanced, with a rare "bouquet" as old.

Of this diversity was born in 1989 the Zona Vitivinícola de

Óbidos, covering almost the entire area of the municipali-

ties of Bombarral, Cadaval, Obidos and Caldas da Rainha

and the Zona Vitivinícola de Alenquer, Arruda e Torres

(municípios de Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Sobral de

Monte Agraço e Torres Vedras), com selos DOC

(denominação de origem controlada). The Region also is

distinguished by the production of DOC "Light Wines",

the lower alcohol content and the existence, unique in

Country, Denomination of Controlled Origin of Spirits

Lourinhã wine and, more recently, surprising

sparkling. It is a rich economic, tourist and

cultural region of the "Route of Vine and Wine of the

West" while intended to strengthen the tourist circuit.

About 25 farms can be viewed from three distinct cir-

cuits. In this visits can now marvel at the

vineyard or even try a good harvest. You can scroll spa-

accompanied by fine cheeses from region or conventual

sweets.

The linhas de torres circuit rediscovers rails of Duke of

Wellington and the Peninsular War.

In the Óbidoscircuit contacts with the Medieval Alcobaça

Monastery spirit, the town of Obidos, the Queen Leonor

Caldas, Bombarral Farms and the fresh air of Montejunto

in Cadaval.

The Quintas de Alenquer circuit brings us to the ima-

ginary Farms and Solar fifteenth century. To the Village

Crib of Alenquer, figures such as Pedro Alvares Cabral

and Damião de Góis.
